Yes, you should never ask about penny items. But you’re wrong about them not being obligated to sell the penny item/s to you. The Dollar General Policy instructs the cashier to sell the items at 1c and then ask the customer where they found the items. Then they are to pull the remaining inventory after the customer is taken care of. Look up the policy yourself. ….now you’re correct that the penny inventory shouldn’t be on the floor to begin with, they should have pulled the items off the floor. …but that is why the system is in place. It’s brilliant. It is basically free Quality Control done by customers that don’t care about freshness, they just want a mega deal. If the items are on the floor after corporate told the staff to pull them, that’s free and open game. The store has to destroy a lot of the items once they are pulled back, so what’s the hard in me getting the items at a penny, and to remind the management “hey you aren’t rotating stock like you should be”.

I try to find clearance items at WalMart for $1 to $2, example: Toddler girls one piece bathing suits were clearance priced for $1, along with boys basketball type shorts and sleeveless shirts also $1. I buy a few, then when I have a box full I donate to the food and clothing bank to help those in need. It gives me a thrill getting things first quality at that price and helps parents who are going through tough times provide for their kids. A total Win-Win and your videos help do just that! I coupon at Dollar General and have saved so much money and have accumulated a huge stockpile.. During the pandemic I never ran out of supplies like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, toiletries and was able to help out friends and family that weren’t able to go into the stores. Another tip on penny shopping: If you find a penny item, you should buy all every penny item because if the cashier that rings you out sees that you found some, they will go and pull the rest of the items they missed and throw them out. Lots of penny shoppers give them away or donate them to schools, shelters, or nursing homes. There are lots of KZbin channels on how to coupon and penny shop at DG and post $5 off $25 scenarios and digital coupon glitches you can get for free. That’s how I learned how to coupon.

@juliebaker69693 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much a given that it will have higher prices than Dollar Tree. EVERYTHING in Dollar Tree is a dollar or less, but then many things in Dollar Tree are seconds. That means that there are irregularities, flaws, and other issues with these products. These mistakes may show, or they might NOT, but you have to CLOSELY examine anything you buy from Dollar Tree. Just because something has the word "Dollar" in their name, DOESN'T make it a dollar store, Dollar General and Family Dollar are 2 good examples of this. In our area, Find that Dollar General and Walmart are about EQUAL where products of the same QUALITY is concerned.

@@BackgroundNPC75557 yeah, those kind of things are fine, though they DO tend to have less in them than the more expensive brands. When I said they were lower quality and seconds I was thinking more of things like dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, toys things like that. Food is usually fine, though you DO have to watch out for size differences. And oddly enough there are SOME things that it's actually CHEAPER to get elsewhere. They round some things down to a dollar, and some things UP to a dollar. I really like shopping there, but You have to be careful. I've gotten dishes for example that have had flaws in the glaze, or they won't sit flat, or the pattern is misprinted, stuff like that. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, it's an economical place to shop.

I have come a long way since then, putting 2 children through college. The sad part is my children do not believe I actually did that. From what I see when I go into a Dollar General they are under staffed. The managers are probably over worked too. Just about all of these big companies it is always about the bottom line. As someone who is working at Dollar General right now and the summer before, all of this is true except for the end cap advice, mostly. The end caps, from my experience, are for items that have no specified location or have no room (mostly excess hostess because it spoils so fast and excess/out of season items that we want to get rid of). I say mostly, though, because there are items that are marked to be placed on end caps, but, from what I have seen, they are not seasonal in nature. It may be a regional thing, though, so still look out for it as my region may use end caps for a different reason than the stores he visited. Use these tips, trust me.

Bonus deal I just found out about. When you buy any item at Dollar General, they usually have a $5 off of $25 or $20 on the receipt. Example, I live in the south east USA, We have a grocery store chain called Food Lion, that says they will match or beat other store prices. Take your $5 off of $25 receipt from DG to Food Lion, and they SHOULD (may not always work) match it, and take off $5 from your purchase of $25+

2:40 You don't need the app. It prints on the bottom of your receipt and, if you only shop on Saturday, you will get a coupon for the next Saturday. On the dots and shapes, they are only reduced at certain times based on seasons/sales. Bonus deal 1 could have been, not a pricing error, but rather the item on sale for 50% off(and considering the time, very likely). That's, again, the reason for the dots.

I find the best holiday cards and prices. When I go in for Mother's/Father's Day cards I typically try to take a few minutes and check out the other categories. Some cards are 1$ and others are 2 for 1$. Those cards are 3+$ - 6+$ at other stores. So start a card box and add to it every time you go to buy a card. At those prices, if you have a lil wiggle room in your budget, you can get extra birthday cards, get well soon, just thinking about you, anniversary, graduation, special day, blank on inside, religious, teacher day, and many other special occasions that a card come in handy for and sometimes its just that little personal thing that person needed in their life at the time. It can really do more than we know, especially with an extra little personal note inside. I've been on both ends, the giving and the receiving, and know the power a card can have.

Also, with digital coupons, many times there will be two coupons for the same product like $1 off Dial body wash or $2 off Dial body wash. Be careful when clipping digital coupons because if you clip both coupons for the same product, it will always give you the coupon for the lowest value rather than the highest. Also with penny shopping, like for the Hostess cupcakes, the only ones that ever penny out are seasonal or limited edition, which will never be in the home location like the shelves you filmed. If the store receives those Hostess items, which not all stores do, they will always be in a separate location away from the Little Debbie/Bread shelves, as that is a home location rather than a seasonal location. The occasional penny shopper most employees don't mind, but it's not worth it to argue with the employees or call corporate over it, and don't be the penny shopper who tears the aisles apart, leaves a mess for employees to clean up, and asking employees to price check to see if the items are a penny. Also do not hide penny items from employees. That prevents the employees from doing their job of pulling the items. But if you do find penny items on the day it pennies out, then it's yours.
@kattriella13313 жыл бұрын
Current DG employee here, and I just wanted to say that sometimes corporate goes back and forth about whether we can refuse to sell penny items, and sometimes they tell us they've changed the policy to one penny item per customer. A lot of stores ignore this because the employees don't get paid enough to get screamed at and waste what little time we have arguing, but if an employee says, "Policy has changed, we now have to do [insert whatever here], I just want people to know it's quite possibly true and not just the employee being rude. Corporate changes our policies on random nonsense so often that it's hard to keep up.

I love our local Dollar General and am looking forward to Fall selections. Thanks for the added tips. I think I will download the app🌝

My local Walmart has increased their prices so high it’s ridiculous! ALL (approx 20) of the check out lines are “self checkout”. More recently, they did away with the money gram area and now in order to do any money transaction I have to go to the “customer service” line. Wow!!!!!

You are correct, DG is supposed to pull items once they go to .01 (0.00 in the app) it takes a lot of work and studying and learning to read tags, it is not for the faint of heart. Lol Don't get frustrated if you can't find .01 items, it just means your store is on their A Game...or an 'adult scavenger hunter' got to it before you did. But y'all #1 please remember to set your app location each time you walk into a DG, #2 please don't ask employees if or where .01 items are. #3 Don't trash a store looking for them, tidy as you go. It makes a big difference. Some stores hate couponers and penny shoppers because they trash stores and don't clean up after their selves.

Love the video as usual...I used to coupon all the time at dollar general however I stopped a few weeks ago because a lot of the digital coupons were not attaching to the correct product and certain bonus deals like spend 8 dollars on dove get a two dollar instant savings...those types of deals were not working with the app and the clerk said they couldn't fix it. In Massachusetts Everytime I use a paper mfr coupon I am told at dollar general that it negates the digital dg coupon...it is very frustrating. Also if you plan on using the 5 off of 25 on Sat you need to complete your shopping before 7 pm cause at 7 pm the new ad takes effect with the new weekly deals and alot of digital coupons and the five off of 25 mysteriously disappear. I used to love Dollar Gen nowadays I will not shop there because I leave the store completely frustrated with no resolution.

I work at a Family Dollar not a DG but at our store, the system literally doesn't allow us to sell items for less than .10¢ So, penny items usually get thrown away if my manager finds them, but if I ring smth up and it comes up as a penny (followed by an error message that tells me to put in a different price) I usually sell it to the customers for that ten cents. I don't know which stores this applies to and which it doesn't but please don't hound the cashiers to sell smth to you for a penny, the system may literally not allow them to. There's no need to be rude about smth that can't be helped

I like how you showed some Dollar General shelves that had been mostly cleaned out in this video. I've seen other discount shopping channels that only seem to film dollar stores right after opening following a fresh restock and this presents an unrealistic expectation of the experience you're likely to have on a random visit (sometimes to the point where people in the comments accuse the channels of collaborating with the stores to stage the merchandise).

If the manufacturer coupon states a limit of for example "Limit two per household per day" then you cannot use more like coupons in another transaction to get around coupon limits. Not to mention the couponers who hold up the line for other customers when trying to do multiple transactions. If no limit is stated on the manufacturer coupon, then Dollar General will accept up to 5 like coupons per transaction per day.
@mtnjhutch3 жыл бұрын
You can also use the $5 coupon on your receipt for Saturday on one transaction and the digital version on another.
@selenayates22562 жыл бұрын
Some stores will also save extra coupons for customers. So you can split into even more transactions. But I would ask first if they do this. Only some stores do this.

I don't have a Dollar General store but we have a Family Dollar. Can you do secrets for Family Dollar? Thank you!
@notrealnamenotatall24762 жыл бұрын
Here's a tip: Don't ever work at the Dollar General. The customers alone will tear you apart. For every nice person, there's about ten or twenty vultures who treat you like dirt, tear up the store, curse you out because "no, the Coke is not on sale", and get you in trouble running these coupon scams where they buy twenty things for a dollar and then resell them on Facebook. And you get paid less than any other store in town. Then you can't leave because two or three coworkers split without getting their two week's notice and now you are one of three people hired at the store, forcing you to close early. Just to be rewarded with whiny Karens griping about you closing while their little brats scream for candy until they get it. Or better yet, like what happened to us, some guy spraypaints the front windows "It's 7 clock". Not o'clock, CLOCK. Oh, and the fight with numerous losers who 'lost their license' AND STILL DROVE TO THE STORE and are ticked that they can't by cigarettes. So they call your manager out to complain before storming out in a big huff. Dollar General: Satan's Snack Shop.
@sidroberts79603 жыл бұрын
As someone that has worked for Dollar General for the past two years, I have to disagree with your second one. While yes, we do allow you to use coupons that exceed the purchase price of items, that will only go towards your bill. We do NOT give you money back if your total is a negative at the end of the transaction. Trying to get a worker to do that and actually getting them to do that because they do not know any better could result in getting that worker fired. Also for secret number three you do not have to download the DG app to get the $5 off $25 purchase on Saturday's. You can, and the DG app is a good way to save money, but you don't have to, all you have to do is keep a receipt from that week as 99% of the time the coupon for the $5 off $25 purchase is on the receipt with the date it can be used. Also, about coupon stacking, yes it is allowed UNLESS the coupon specifically says only one use per purchase. Now, about the penny items, please do not go overboard on this. Personally, I love to save my customers money whenever I can and will go out of my way to help them save money, but if a store sells too many items for a penny that store actually faces punishment for that. So, be reasonable when you do this or you will end up making people not want to help you save money anymore. And these penny items do not end up in a dumpster, at least not at the store. They are sent back to the warehouse.

Why do any items (besides expired foods, etc.) end up in the dumpsters? Wouldn’t it serve the community better that all these perfectly useable and widely needed items be donated rather than just be purposely destroyed adding unnecessary waste to our already over filled with garbage dumps?

@@kylieowens8812 You didn't read my comment very well did you? I said, they do NOT go in the dumpster. The only items that go in the dumpster where I work are expired products.

As someone who works at DG, I personally hate penny shoppers when they get a huge cart full of penny items, when I'm the only one there, and there is a huge line of people. And even worse when I know they went to the back room and grabbed the boxes, but can't prove it. If it's on the shelves, sure why not. But in the back room you purposely went digging through for them?? That's just shitty, especially since they leave a mess behind in the process. Also, I can't tell you how many times someone breaks something glass, and just leaves it there without telling anyone. I once watched someone on the camera accidentally knock a candle off a shelf, look at it, look around to see if anyone saw, then leave. I swept it up, but they never told anyone. It doesn't just magically disappear, have some decency people come on.

Our local store had stuck clearance signs up all over the store to advertise their clearance. Because they stuck one on a shelf that I had been looking at, thinking the items were clearance, I grabbed an "As seen on tv" led light. It was marked $13. The clearance said, "Take an additional 50% off price that's marked". That would be $13.50. When it was rung up, it was full price. I told the cashier where I got it. He got his assistant manager. She tried to to say that they put signs up all over the store to show their clearance items. I told her she will want to take them down because it makes it look like everything is on clearance! She went back to her boss, and he had her give me the light for half price, and I saw staff pulling clearance signs down at the same time.
