There's an app called Flipp that has almost all of the store fliers for you to see in one place. You can touch the items you want to buy and it will circle the item for you AND make a list for you from each individual store. Also it has a watch list that you can enter products so you always know when they're on sale. I love it!

The tip about the frozen vegetables is spot on, and I have been using it for the last 13 months, because many times, the shipments of fresh vegetables don't always arrive on time when I am in the store for my once a week shopping trip. Thus, for many dishes, I head on over to the frozen food section. Ms. L. Churchill

You forgot the most important tips of all: don’t be nasty to the cashier if a price doesn’t come up right. They do not memorize prices. They simply scan the item and collect the payment. @Skylarkist Expert It actually is the supplier not the store that does the packaging and often the shortage is from water loss during storage and shipping. Stores get in a pallet loaded with the pre-bagged produce items and just put them on the shelf. When packaged they were at or above the promised weight but evaporation happens over time. Fresh produce normally has over 300% markup at the store.

You always have great info and make the info so entertaining! 😊 The items with (some of) the highest protit margins or mark-ups are the "impulse" purchase items on the racks at checkout. The one I have committed to mind is the bread/in-store produce bag tie colors freshness schematic. Learn your colors and you will know that you're getting the freshest product on the shelf without having to hunt the package over with a magnifying glass to find the "best by" or expiration date. Just Google "bread tie colors" and you'll see lots of info. This is important so you're buying the product with the longest shelf life, not the store trying to push the oldest merchandise out the store at full price that will go bad at your house in 2-3 days instead of a week.

Here in California, if you think the stores’ scales are off or need to be calibrated and they won’t cooperate with you to rectify their mistakes, I call the Department of Weights & Measures and they’ll come out to investigate and fine the store if they’re in error. I’ve gotten great discounts/free items whenever I’ve opened my mouth and said: “No biggie...I’ll just call California’s Department of Weights & Measure...” Boom. That’s when I get their full attention. Btw, one of the stores notorious for screwing their customers over are the dollar or .99 cent stores - hold on to your receipts because you’ll find that some of your purchases are missing but were charged for them. When I went back to one particular Dollar store to complain and asked if they’d look at their security cameras, they refused to cooperate so I sweetly said: “I guess I’ll have to contact the Department of California Weights & Measures and your corporate office.” Turns out the camera showed the cashier either purposely or inadvertently putting 5 of my items aside but thankfully, my receipt had the date and time stamp which made it easier to verify my claim. And never believe the cashier when they tell you they’ve put everything in the bag...unh-huh. Yeah, right. Glad I stumbled upon your KZbin channel today!

Hey Matt (and others), I’m not sure if you already did a video on this, but, when in produce section, it’s been proven that there are certain types of lighting used on things that are listed with water that makes them appear fresher than if you went to a location where they’re not sprayed. Also, ALWAYS shake excess water off if you buy from there before checkout as it weighs less. There are also in many markets discounted deals for products in fresh section. Think about what you could use that day if something is appealing to you, and save yourself a ton. Or, because I have a ton of animals, many of their fresh items can be from same place for a huge discount.

As a manager of a grocery store 1st point- those come in pre weighed we don’t really weigh them we get a big truck and just put them on the shelf. 2nd point- this is completely true. 3rd point- this happens with a mix up of not only the produce worker but customers and other workers doing go backs (stuff customers don’t want). 4th point- absolutely most of this stuff is overpriced and organic. 5th point- not the best quality for store product however the price can be cheaper but, it’s more often less quantity just looks the same and packaged to look the same. 6th point- that is true however most of the time it’s best to shop the latest night most stores due to covid most of the time now it’s right before closing when we restock. 7th point- yes absolutely depends on what it is but read the fine print if it says (must buy increments) then you have to buy the deal this mainly happens for soda, however you don’t need to for other items often. 8th point- not sure tbh. 9th point- not a bulk store for main stuff. 10th point- absolutely the frozen is cheaper and often better then cans from my experience. Bonus- we have an app or we have a paper in store. Bonus#2- yeah most of the time the quality is horrible and just a little cheaper. Finally my last tip- if you’re cool with the cashier sometimes not saying all the time you can get deals from them for instance if you’re cool and bag your own groceries or you’re nice and they have a coupon that’s like $10 off $90 they will give you the $10 off. Also if there’s a buy one get one deal go to the front and ask for half off if you only want one or you can say there isn’t another one as of now since covid rain checks aren’t being handed out by a lot of stores due to shortages so they will likely just give you it half off

If you live in Nevada or Utah, the Smith's grocery chain does a case lot sale about every 4 months, for 2 weeks at a time. You can get really great deals on common "stock up" items, i.e. Campbell's Chunky soup for $0.99 a can, Hamburger Helper for $0.99 a box, Rice a Roni for $.088 a box, etc... Great way to fill the pantry on things you use a lot. And the best part is that you don't need to buy an entire case of the item; you can just buy how many you want, and still get the same price.

Unless it's on sale cereal is overly expensive at most grocery stores. I can get a giant family size box at walmart for less than a regular box at say Jewel(Albertsons).

Apple's, potatoes and other produce is done by count not weight. I know this because I was a produce Manager
@ace3181064 жыл бұрын
As a produce manager, you are correct. Bagged produce also needs to be within 4oz of stated weight on the bag because is it loses moisture in transit.
@candyjohnson33024 жыл бұрын
If that were true, why are they sold by weight? Smh
@positivityonly36544 жыл бұрын
@@candyjohnson3302 they're not sold to the stores by weight. They are sold by count. Smh
@texasirishangel11263 жыл бұрын
@@positivityonly3654 so, a 5# bag of potatoes that is sold to the store in the bag marked 5#, is actually not necessarily 5#? It’s simply 10 potatoes (or whatever number)? That’s crazy!!! The grocery store should address that to their buyer!

Stores show on the tag in the shelf the price per oz. Then they put some in price per lb. Some simple division by 16 will convert price per lb to oz so you can do an accurate comparison of prices. We now return you to your life which is already in progress.

I found that the Kroger’s version of honey nut Os is better than name brand. So is cream cheese

This no secret but is very useful. You can not find a broken egg in the carton by looking. Open the carton and slightly move each egg. A cracked egg will be stuck and not move.

Hi Matt! I'm in the texting club. So I apparently have been buying bulk wrong. I do shop generic or store brand a lot. SO my store is Kroger and Walmart. I have a relative that shops Cosco for our family paper goods and a bag of chicken breasts that I split with her. Now, this Kroger 10 for 10, FOr example, 1.99 regular price for Lunchables but 10 for 10 you get 10 Lunchables for a dollar apiece. I try to buy cause it is usually tied into points for cheaper gas. So many points you get cost knocked off of the gas price per gallon, I use to do coupons when Kroger had triple back coupons. Now the newspaper mostly has cleaning supplies coupons giving you money off the cost if you buy 2. Now do a video on the best cashback apps. which one do you prefer? Flipp? I used honey for a while until I found that honey didn't have a link to a lot of the things I needed or you had to buy their gift card to apply to the purchase. ANnoying! There was some good info here Matt. I want to know the best cashback app and more info as to why bulk buying is not good and stores that have you use points to get better gasoline deals. Thanks, MATTlove your content.

I too go to Kroger for gas points. It is VERY rare i find a better deal at Costco oz per oz . I shop the sales at regular grocery stores and do digital coupons for remarkable savings. Matt, are there deal secrets at kroger specifically?
@helenjames7734 жыл бұрын
@@klattin1501 YES I AGREE. I would love to know what Kroger steals are out there. It seems lately Kroger is pushing 10for10 a lot. or Coke 5 for 11 dollars.

You seem to know your stuff. Thank you. Got one quick question if you have time. Is there an app or setting or something that will let me know when the items in my Amazon wishlist have been discounted? If anyone would know I believe it would be you.

We live in the north so fresh produce is extremely expensive or even hard to come by. We have a garden, but only about three months in which we can garden. We buy a ton of frozen vegetables and they are often better quality than the fresh produce that we can get.

Milk/dairy is always close to the back. Prepared foods, (rice a roni type boxed are in the center. These are higher profit and you have to walk thru this area to get milk/ meat/staple foods, etc. End displays are not necessarily products on ad or have a special price.

Where I worked produce was restocked in the morning and put on top towards the back. The stuff in front is older. Do not buy on Friday Saturday or Sunday unless you are there when the store opens.
@hlynnkeith93344 жыл бұрын
Matt, 2:26 Cannot speak about your stores, but in the stores in my hometown, the store employees do not restock the shelves. The producers restock their own products. At least for the packaged and canned items.
