Took the ideas out of everyone's minds, not everyone or every people human or not have the perfect parents, but given how much everything is going on like this right now as it did Helluva long time ago generations too far way back since from the very beginning right from the very start, compared to what's happening now today in this 🌎 😢ly, You might as well "If your lucky enough" either wishing you were literally born without Parents with no records or just be glad you don't have one/be better off without the Horrible 💩 A-hole kind of parents you have.

It said honor them. That doesn't mean to agree and abide by everything they do. Also, the verse specifically says, *children* obey your parents *in the Lord*. You are not a child. Therefore you are obligated to obey God, not them.

@@Hifirrrr in 100% honesty, if you have parents that love you, but don't respect you, that will never work no matter what you do. Many parents don't see their "child" as equal to them, therefore they are not worthy of respect. They will never apologize, never take blame, and you will always be blamed, even if you're innocent. There are only a few options, get away from them; move out or whatever, or they would have to literally have a change of heart.

When I turned 18, I was dating a young man with the prospect of marriage. My parents didn’t like that idea. I was still living with them at the time, and one night, he brings me back from a date. My parents were waiting to talk to us about our relationship. They thought we were moving too fast. At the time, I had a car I loved, had worked to pay for it, but when they purchased it for me, I was still a minor, so the car was in their name. They dangled this car over me saying, you can have your car if you stop seeing him. I looked at him, asked him to wait for me outside. I packed my clothes and left with him. We married, and after a few months, seeing their tactic didn’t work, they signed the car over to me. Just one of the many controlling stories of my parents. It’s a shame that some parents learn control over their kid(s) when they are children. The psychological damage takes a toll for most of that person’s life. To which, they don’t care. I’ve found prayer helps me get through it. I know God sees all, and He never forgets.

To you and the other person that replied. How old are you and are you able to have a job that pays a decent amount of money? Are you healthy enough to be independent and mobile? Does your parent(s) have a large (or nicely sized) estate that you would like to inherit? Whoevery you are, your best bet might be to build up your personal wealth as much as possible so that you can walk away and not worry about losing any possible benefits you might be getting. That's probably going to be really, really hard, and maybe not even possible. However, hopefully these questions and comments will spark some kind of inspiration that will help you. (These are general statements and may not work specifically for you because most people here are kind of anonymous.) Good luck to you and everyone.

Focus on self-control and choosing to become the best version of yourself that God created and intended you to be before you were in your mother's womb. I pray your strength in the Lord in Jesus' name. I pray that you choose to grow in God's love, wisdom, insight, perspective, and strength IN JESUS' NAME. AMEN. Quite a few of those points match my parents. They have interfered in my relationships, choices, etc. at all stages of my life. My dad knew one bible verse pretty well though...that children should obey their parents. Imagine hearing that until you are 40-something--until I got saved. At which point I told my dad "no", that I choose to obey God first, and if my earthly father does not allow me to follow the Lord's leading in my life then he is setting himself up as an idol. He suddenly stopped saying that to me and never said it again.

My mom started micromanaging me from when I was 13 onwards. Most messed up time of my life. Covid-19 pandemic made me stuck with her 24/7. Her justification for is that I made a mistake (people made fun of me for having a parent that overreacted to that situation which could have been solved easily), so she said "my own independent route" is my "path of self-destruction. " I am ashamed to admit I have like zero skills: can't drive a car, can't cook, no work experience, and no friends. She blames these flaws on me and brags that she gained them all herself like an independent woman (because her parents barely cared about what she did). It went to an extent where she quit her job. The only skill I have is being a good high school student - she pokes my flaws even there.

I am loving this. You nailed my life. I'm a 34 year old Autistic Adult women. My father was in the army and my mother her own thing. So, long story short my parents try to dictate everything from my clothes, my job occupation and friends. Not saying I'm perfect not by a land slide, but they admitted they sheltered me and are now expecting I become an adult. I ask them questions for guidance and I'm met with anger and 'go fuck off' I want to move out and be my own person, but my father says only after he's dead can I move. I'm now stuck because I know how my parents will react if I move out. I'm depressed and tired of having these little school arguments where I'm always having to apologize for whatever their beef is. One of the most hurtful things my father said to me was ' I can kill you and nobody would fucking care' It hurt me so much and I can't stop thinking 'why does he hate me?' Nothing satisfies him instead of being a father bonding moment I get ' go fuck off I'm busy' Do you have any suggestions or advice because I'm tired of being stressed and made to feel like I was a mistake.

I know it's tough with the economy, but try working in that direction. I started lifting weights to put all my anxiety into something instead of internalizing things bc that's how they can manipulate you. And be as neutral as possible with your parents, especially your dad. Get help with a group, pray, fast, and start saving $$$ if possible. God bless. ❤

If we all listen to this, it's an opportunity to make us better versions of ourselves and be a great parent to our children and not spoonfeeding our adults children. The Bible even says that a man will leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife. We have a responsibility to look after our parents but if they are controlling we need to let them know in a respectful way. Then step back a little but we should not withdraw our love and gifts from them while stepping back to help them readjust. Blessings.

At 0:55 is exactly how my parents act whenever they're given any form of pushback or criticism. Immediate, "We're just terrible parents then!" and guilt tripping and threatening to disown us. They try to keep us mentally controlled, but they don't want to control our own bills or anything. It's psychotic. If you want to control your child, then pay their bills. Don't still act like this when they're paying their own bills and have proven it for years. I've never asked for anything from my parents that my parents didn't INITIALLY offer. Because I know they will just use it against me if I do ask them for anything. It's sickening. They can't use what they offer you against you though because all you have to say is, "You offered and I took it."

I’m late but maybe someone will see this. My mom (she denies everything) was either miserable, screaming, crying, or manically happy. Everything I did as a child was over analyzed and critiqued. In the meanwhile my parents did whatever they wanted and I covered for their affairs. I was fed and clothed, I wish I’d been stronger. I could blame them for being in a dead end job but pay most bills on time, realistically I could have tried more. If I could tell my younger self something I’d have said join the military, they will just as deliberately yell orders but you may walk away with a brighter future. Just get away from toxic parents sooner the better.

She recently also complained because she no longer has access to my bank account… I switched my bank account to one not connected to hers a few years ago. I’m in my late 20’s…. When I my boyfriend and I accidentally got pregnant out of wedlock my mom said “what will people think? I never thought this would happen in our family.” 🙄🙄

I deal with this everyday. I have slowly learned to just walk away and not respond. It makes it very hard to provide care for that parent when they need help. I could go on, but Pastor will say what needs to be said.

Both of my parents are like this. They are unbelievers. I am 47 female, I am a parent myself. My parents still try to control me to this very day. They bring up that I gotta obey them. They tell me that I don't raise my children right. I raised my children different then I was raised, and I raise my children to be with Jesus. I treat my children the way I want to be treated. I don't force my children to do things they don't want to do. I know where my priorities are. God is first, them my children . I keep praying for my parents to come to Jesus.

My mother in law causes all the issues in my marrage. Ive always had the freedom to do what i want with my family. They let me be who i am. But she doesnt let my husband do his thing. It's such a struggle.

Thank you for this. It sounds very familiar. My parents can be completely overbearing, micromanaging and pathologising. I am exhausted. I don’t know how to help it. I love them a lot. I hope that I can find some answers

Pastor, you're describing in detail how my parents were with me and my siblings, especially my brother and I (I'm the youngest of 4 siblings). I essentially had to go no contact 😊 my mother for 20 years and limited contact with my father from when I enlisted in the Navy back in 1999 until he passed away in 2005. I didn't see my mother again until 2019, right after I went on terminal leave, but at this point she has been involuntary committed to a facility for elderly people in Puerto Rico. She passed away in 2021. I have forgiven them for the damage they caused to me and my siblings, but some days I think about what they've done and I quickly have to lift it to Jesus so that I don't go down that dark hole again. Believe me when I say this, but I could write a book on how me and my brother grew up and it would amaze people that we didn't wind up on drugs, in jail, or six feet under. Thank you so much for addressing this topic that few choose to discuss and from a Scriptural perspective.

Only thing I don't agree with is 1:21- blessing/curssing is part of God's relationship with us. God blesses us via obedience, and he disciplines us unto the thread of even spiritual death as covenant members, while reminding us of the unconditional nature of the relationship of those who are ultimately in Christ. That said, entirely agree with the major threads in this clip. Maturing your children requires allowing them to begin to walk and make mistakes on their own.

Described my in laws. Omg trauma for life. The only reason I stayed is bc I had no where to go at one point. We moved away and 99 percent of the noise is gone. It only took 14 years. Waste of time. It ruined our relationship forever. My husband and I are doing amazing but his parents- I want nothing to do with. His mother gave me anxiety attacks whenever I saw her. Covert narcissist.

My husband and i are going through communication issues so strong and it is affecting my health his reasoning is out of this world, and he refuses counselor. My parents: calls us and talks calls his parents to see how they could talk to us and his son because they have tried. My inlaws: believe that they can not be third parties and even if the are ask to inteven they just say we should pray. Even when i tell them that their son does not try to communicate, he refuses to eat, intimacy, frequent anger for NO reason like for real etc. So they think my parents are controlling for asking that their children needs to seek help.and i do not want my husband to insult my family. His father was pretty rough on his mom so i dont know if it is just normal for them in their family. The father keeps saying that we should fix ourself the issue is that my husband is not giving a space for that talk

I'm not mean...I just do not take crap anymore...I always have to put my mother in her place...AND QUICK! I've kicked her out several times. First, I'll start off with: 1) I'm grown and have my own business, so if that line is crossed, you can get to stepping out of the home I pay for and don't call either. I don't care how you feel about that either. And if you want to bring up how much you sacrificed for me, let me remind you, that IT WAS YOUR CHOICE to have a child and KEEP me, mind you, there was abortion and foster homes...so leave that bull in your mouth and save it for someone who cares. And if your going to say anything about obeying your parents let's also not forget the scripture about don't piss your kids off either. So take that with you as well. Now bye Felicia! Now this is only said when they cross the line, not a daily thing and yes they've been warned.
