I was diagnosed in 1989 as hypothyroid. Dr started me on Armour thyroid and it worked pretty good. Years later Dr switched me to Synthroid and I noticed an immediate difference, much more sluggish and tired. I did some reading and found Armour has both T3 and T 4 where Synthroid utilizes only T3. I got my Dr to switch me back and it has been much better for me.

I've been using Armour for many years. But, every time I've moved in my life, I literally had to go thru hell, with any new Dr to get them to prescribe it for me -and or change the amount. I actually feel as if I need more T3, but most drs don't have a clue as to what they're doing with testing. I'm trying to add supplements to do better.

I'm going to talk to an attorney. I went to the doctor with my whole body blown up. Swelling in both legs, I couldn't bend my knees, swollen face, eyebrows thin, hair falling out, extremely fatigued, could barely function and very scard and was gaslighted. He wouldn't listen. He kept saying for the high Cholesterol I'm going to prescribe Lipator. I finally got diagnosed by a Homeopath.

Grrr!!!! Bad doctor, very bad. This war with doctors regarding thyroid has been going on for decades. See Stop The Thyroid Madness for starters. Sooo many good sites out there now, and the majority of the medical profession is absolutely pathologically obstinate about getting on board with the latest information, using up precious limited energy and finances of those of us who suffer from this health issue. So glad your homeopath could help you. Thank you Dr. Berry for revisiting this issue.

@@norxgirl1 I agree!!!! Stop the Thyroid Madness sites and FB groups are fantastic! Her books are a great resource as well. I was so sick I was being checked for MS by multiple drs. It was all thyroid. Thyroid issues can cause over 300 symptoms due to the fact that our thyroid is directly related to many systemic functions within our bodies. The majority of doctors, including endocrinologists are completely clueless as to thyroid disease and how to treat correctly, IF they even treat it at all.

@@sunshinegirl1967 if I didn't have background experience in Holistic medicine/therapies, I'd be dead a long time ago. I moved into a house in 2011. 6 months later my whole body blew up, hair was falling out everywhere and teeth disengaged in my mouth. Both legs blew up and I couldn't bend my knees. I could barely function I was so fatigued and in terrible pain. The worse part was a lump developed in my Hepatic flexure that began to move!! I got on Tramadol from local pain management because ai had recent MRI 's. Long story short things got much worse. Worm that looked like a liver fluke came out of my nose! I discovered Neighbors on other side of the privacy fence had a broken septic for years and we're pumping a bit stream of crap behind our houses to a field. Not knowing I had a box fan in the window blowing their 💩 through my bedroom and house! I got the property shut down with the country. I started doing aggressive parasite treatment and Gerson Therapy. On and off from 2013-2017. Hepatic flexure had a pocket of weird looking worms that came out with Gerson Therapy. I relapsed into being very sick again. My brother is an alternative doctor in Louisville. Had me flown there from Florida where Homeopath found the Hashimoto. Probably sencondary to liver/gallbladder scarring. For a few years, I also passed a lot of large gallstones. Finally starting to feel better and think clearer. It's been a long hard ordeal.

Aside from skin problems, another major sign of hypothyroidism is depression. I was treated for depression for about a year before getting my thyroid diagnosis. My psychiatrist, at the time, told me that the first thing doctors are supposed to do when a patient complains of depression is to check the patient's thyroid. I had complained of "mood swings", so got put on Prozac. Needless to say, all these years later, I no longer see the shrink, changed family doctors, finally got referred to an endocrinologist, am off the Prozac and life goes on. I still have very dry skin all over my body. I did find that a vitamin D supplement helped with the skin issues.

I have skin issues and when my vitamin D levels are at 50 they become better. I am on 50,000 IU’s once a week of vitamin D2, and 5,000 IU’s daily on the other days. I have hypothyroidism. Low mood results from low vitamin D in my case. I’ve been off Prozac for years, now.

I was born with hypothyroidism in 1957. At the age of 18 months old, I was still doing the same thing I was doing at 6 months of age. People said I was a Mongoloid (retarded). My dad took me to an Army doctor he knew during WWII and he diagnosed me. I remember my mom saying if I didn't take my pills (at that time the only pills for this condition was Armor Thyroid) I would go into a coma and die. I am now 66 years of age and I thank God and that doctor for every day that I am alive. Back then this condition was not very well known. Today I take Synthroid (not generic) brand of medication.

I have half thyroid and been hypo for 20 years. I’m so SICK of labs not matching my symptoms. And YES, I eat healthy and NO, I’m not depressed. When my labs are high, I feel great. When they lower my Rx mg, I feel like crap- BUT my labs are fine. It happens all the time and I can’t take it anymore! Doctors diagnose me based on Labs alone and don’t listen to me. They just put their blinders on and adjust my meds so that my labs will look better. And every single time they lower my mg to make my lab results better, I TANK. I’m freaking exhausted to the point where it interrupts my life. I wish I can find an endocrinologist who actually HAS hypothyroid so they can relate and truly understand.

I had EVERY symptom of hypothyroidism...not just one or two...all. I went to four different Dr's...all of which said - Nothing is wrong with you -.....but I knew something was wrong. I didn't know what though. Honestly, at first I just thought I had some kind of severe skin condition...I would get mosquito like welps all over my body and I had no idea where they were coming from. I was freezing ALL the time. I was losing chunks of hair and yes, my eyebrows too....I went from 97Ibs to 137Ibs and I eat like a bird. I'm very active as well. Eventually after going to Dr to Dr and being told nothing was wrong...I gave up and assumed I was a hypochondriac. A month later my face starts tingling...every movement I make it tingles. Then goes numb. Eventually it's my hands and feet...I could even feel the tingle in my teeth...so I go back to the Dr. telling myself this is the last time. FINALLY, someone found it. I didn't have hypothyroidism...but I was close. I had a damaged Pituitary Gland. Took 5 doctors to find that.

When I was ~23 yrs old fellow graduate student looked at my nails and asked how I felt. After I told her, she said the thought I might be hypothyroidic and had me go to her endocrinologist who confirmed I was hypothyroidic. However, my nails had very thick groves growing from the cuticles to the tips of my nails. Since I was 14, I had been complaining about feeling tired, not as alert (& I was a smart child) and gaining weight even though I wasn't eating much (~1000 calories/day). My GP told me that my life was becoming more complicated and that's the reason I was getting so tired. I suffered w/hypothyroidism for over 10 yrs before a friend got me the help I needed!

I had the same thick vertical lines and grooves on my nails, was eating about 1,000 cal a day and often felt sluggish. I watch Dr. Paul Saladino who recommends grass fed animal organ meats for many of these issues. I eat 2-3 ounces of beef liver per day and my nails have rebuilt themselves. The grooves filled in and nails became rounded again- both side to side and front to back. And now they shine which they never did before. MY skin also has a shine to it that was never there before. Also I'm approaching 60 and the liver has removed most of my wrinkles on my hands and face. The skin is much more elastic- instantly snaps back in place. Energy and mood better too. In addition to liver, I eat beef kidney and thymus also called sweet breads. They come in pills too if you want to try. Good luck!

I am diagnosed for 15 years and my lab results come out 'ideal' at my current 100 microgram dosage. I still have 7 of those 10 symptoms, plus constant fatigue, slow metabolism, brain fog and thyroid flare days when I overexerted myself (physically or emotionally). hypothyroidism may be often undiagnosed, but the worst is that doctors will only treat you until your lab shows up 'normal' and then they'll just tell you to bear whatever symptoms you have left, no matter how much it's affecting your life.

I went from 2012 until 2018 with undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Well let's say it had been diagnosed but not revealed to me. In 2011-2012 I had inoperable stage IV throat cancer. The only treatment regimen available was grueling chemotherapy and radiation. Long story short, the radiation beaming thru my head to hit the cancer on my right tonsil and on my palate all but destroyed my thyroid. I was never told that had happened. Finally in 2018 I was able to obtain insurance once again as I had been without since shortly after treatments ended. I had all kinds of delayed medical tests and maintenance done once insurance kicked in. My doctor said "I don't see how you even get out of bed in the morning your thyroid is that seriously low!" The reading was in the 40's. And the other thyroid marker was simultaneously low. When both are present it is a seriously and severe low thyroid. It took a year of experimenting with ever higher doses of medication before my thyroid finally barely went into a normal reading. I went 7 years suffering from brain fog, fatigue, cold chills, depression, weight loss, etc., unnecessarily. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I'm in Canada where we have "Choosing Wisely Canada" guidelines that tell all doctors *not* to test anything beyond TSH. It was already bad enough before Choosing Wisely, and now it's almost impossible to get anything beyond TSH... even if TSH is high. A few years ago, I managed to convince a nurse practitioner to do a req for TSH, FT3, FT4, reverse T3, and the antibodies. She told me she would very likely receive a letter from the Nova Scotia Health Authority chastising her for ordering "unnecessary" tests. When I got my results back, I noticed that reverse T3 was missing. I managed to speak to the head of NSHA for my region and she said that nobody is allowed to order reverse T3 because SHE believes it's an unnecessary test for anyone who hasn't had cancer and their thyroid removed. So... they drew my blood for it, and threw it out. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to educate medical practitioners about the thyroid. They are causing unnecessary suffering.

I'm also Canadian (Ottawa), and this happened to me, too. My Dad had to threaten to sue them just so I could get tested properly (I diagnosed my hypothyroidism myself - I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis), and then again so I could get medication for it. Then they took me off medication because they "wanted to see what happened", and we had to threaten to sue them again. The whole system is a mess. We've had to threaten to sue them 3 times a year for 3 years in a row. And they already know that I have hypothyroidism. They've seen the nodule on my thyroid. They just (sometimes) won't give me medication.

Diagnosed Hypothyroidism for over 20 years. (Now 54) Having to take 200mg dose of Thyroxine since diagnosis - it has now become Hashimotos - my hair has always been thin and fine, body hair is mostly non-existent, my heels crack - but even getting levels so called ‘right’ hasn’t changed anything. I’ve been overweight my whole life (when it was ‘puppy fat’) and fight for every kilo lost but look at a carb and gain 2kg. Had hormones tested but always ‘normal’. I don’t know - when you live full keto, walk regularly and eat 1/3 of the amount of everyone else (stomach banding 13 yrs ago) then something should happen. I’ve had many of these symptoms all my life, and was diagnosed at around 14 with a “Sub-clinical” low thyroid. The doctor was surprised but didn’t prescribe thyroid replacement because I “Wasn’t overweight!” So watch out for that. You can be thin and have hypothyroidism. The worst symptom IMO is depression. My hypothyroidism is being treated now. But it can be a moving target as you get older too. Here were my symptoms: Pale skin, low body temperature, cold hands and feet, depression, delayed puberty, thin nails, thin fine hair and hair loss (I do have thick eyebrows though, go figure!)

I started eating grass fed beef liver every day (2-3 oz) as well as grass fed beef kidney and thymus or sweet breads. Down to 1 minor crack on both heals, my nails are now shiny and not brittle, the severe dry skin is almost gone and energy much improved. I also switched from Redmond's Real salt to a combination of 3/4 iodized salt plus 1/4 Redmond's Real to get enough iodine. So much better fixing with food than drugs.

It’s been 36 years since my hypo diagnosis, 22 years Hashimoto’s diagnosis that took 5 years to get. 5 years RA diagnosis. My heels have been split since chemo for RA. Sometimes better but never completely gone. 2 years post thyroidectomy. Absolutely no one including doctors have a treatment plan for after removal. My nails have never been the same since chemo. Edit: the decrease in sweating goes away when menopause starts. We thought it was hard before to regulate our temperature, just wait. The chemo put me thru menopause in 4 months. I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. I’m not even joking a little. I would stand outside in freezing temps in just my night gown to get some relief. If the chemo didn’t kill me, I thought the fire in my body just might.

I have been on Levothyroxine for 15 years, but here in England the NHS will only allow annual re-testing of TSH, nothing else. They also widened the parameters, so you have to have greater readings for the prescription to be raised. Consequently, I could identify 6 of the symptoms you mention that I was still suffering from. However, over this past year I have been taking 14g of powdered Collagen daily, usually on top of a small bowl of porridge with a couple of scoops of natural Greek yoghurt and I have seen some changes: a small burn from the oven when cooking healed up much more quickly than I expected; my skin is much more supple and younger looking and deep wrinkles around my neck are much less deep and less noticeable; a scabby skin eruption on my leg, that I've had for years, which I did get checked and tested by a dermatologist some years back, seems to be healing up somewhat, though it is slow; my hair got very thin and I think it may be thickening up a little bit; my eyebrows are a bit thicker and that 'third' is growing back; nails are growing back a bit more quickly; facial swelling reduced. It will be interesting to see if they notice a change in the blood test this year! 😉

Here in the uk, the gov guidelines have changed, again. About 10 years or so ago they started testing for TSH, FT4 & FT3. Just very recently, they started only testing for TSH & T4. This is not just the NHS, I used an online company and although they advertise TSH, FT4 & FT3, I only received results on TSH & FT4. Spoke to them and they agreed to refund my money. I've been having quite a few hypothyroid symptoms for about 20 years now! When they first started, the doctor I had at the time did a quick TSH test, said my results were normal, so there wasn't anything they could do. It has resulted in me gaining weight, can't seem to lose weight and keep it off, I've had an early miscarriage 3 years ago, I'm always tired no matter how much sleep I get, my hair was randomly thinner, my cycles had practically stopped, I've been more depressed and anxious than is normal and I usually don't move too quickly. Instead of my doctors taking into account how I physically feel, they relied only on blood tests and then told me that nothing was wrong. I now have a new doctor who has ordered bloodwork and I hope that they listen to how I'm feeling physically. If all of my symptoms are looked at individually, it looks like it could be from anything. If those same symptoms are looked at together, it looks like hypothyroid issues.

If you change doctors, and we all do eventually, the new doctor seems to think that we know everything about all of our conditions, when we don't. I remember being bundled up in a sweater watching my legs burn on a summer day I was so cold. To this day, I rarely sweat, instead I try to make sure I am well hydrated with cold drinks in the summer. It's not enough to just drink fluids, they have to be cold enough to lower your body temp.

I forced my doctor to let me up my dose to be as close to hyperactive as possible. You have to tread very lightly as personally it takes my body about a week to feel the effects so you can't be changing dosage day by day. After about 2 months I felt hyperactive, (which was hell) I didn't get it out of my system for 2 weeks. Which is way worse then hypo as you can die if your hyperactive for to long. Which is the main reasons doctors don't bother letting people play with there dosage as most people lack the knowledge to do it correctly. Long story short I finally found a good dosage were I take 100mcg 3 days in a row then on the 4th day I take 112mcg. Which seems to work for me. I do get quite sweaty feet now but it beats feeling tired all the time. I should also mention I take 50mcg x2 instead of the 100mcg pills as the 50mcg pills have no dies or fillers which I believe I'm allergic to as I feel a lot better taking 50mcg x2 to make the 100mcg. Took forever to convince my doctor to let me do that so good luck. Im probably allergic to the fillers in the 112mcg aswell but there's nothing I can do about that as there are no alternatives for that dosage.

@wt8213
@wt8213 Жыл бұрын
@@kierabyrnemusic hello, in Canada we use Synthroid I believe the USA also. It's man made T4 hormone nothing special. I just know that they all have dies and fillers including some lactose and gluten traces which for me I'm sensitive to. The only ones that are pure are the white 50mcg pills. All the other ones are color coded with some fillers. It's silly but it is what it is. I know there are some third party options that are vegan that I haven't tried yet. Honestly a little afraid to mess with things. I've been on Synthroid for 15+ years. I tried a different brand 5 years ago. I was so tired I couldn't function, couldn't think clear with the brain fog, anxiety, and was an emotional mess (usually pretty level headed). Synthroid doesn't solve all my problems (I'd say fixes 70% of them) eating really healthy (low gluten and lactose diet), exercising, and good sleep and I'd say I can get as close to 90% but I don't think I'll ever feel 100% like the average person. It's common sense but making sure you take the medication the same time every day with a big glass of water and not eating for 30 minutes also makes a big difference for absorption. If you mess up one day on how or when you took it you won't feel the negative side effects for a few days if not a week as your body uses the amount you took a why'll ago not the amount you took on that day. So randomly you might have an off day and wonder why. It's usually because you weren't disciplined on when and how you took the medication a few days prior. Hopefully my rambling helps. Thyroid problems can be a slow and silent suffering as to the outside world you look fine or just lazy. Your body isn't working efficiently internally though which is the frustrating part to try to get any form of empathy.

Thyroid issues run in my family. I have been telling each new provider that I am assigned to at the VA about this the first time I see them. They have not displayed any concerns about it until recently. I've been "complaining" to my VA provider for years about my hair falling out. Last year she told me "you have a touch of Hashimoto's" - like it's no big deal. All she wanted to do was "keep an eye on it". I've yet to be called back in for a f/u lab and she is now gone and I am without a VA provider as they have not reassigned me to a new one yet. I have been experiencing the cracking of my finger pads along the side of the nails for the last year. Those cracks take a long time to heal up and I never know when they will appear again. Back in early July, while doing my weekly foot care routine, discovered that my heels are cracking and peeling. I actually pulled off a fairly large strip of dried skin. Unfortunately for me, that left a lot of the fresh new skin vulnerable so I ended up going to an urgent care clinic to see what damage I had caused and what I needed to do to mitigate that. Doc told me to keep it covered for 3-4 days with a large pad bandage and I should be fine. I am just now beginning to NOT feel any discomfort with that area. Tomorrow I am calling the VA and asking who my new provider is. If I still haven't been assigned to one I know just who I am going to request. I am also going to ask to have ALL these lab tests done. The VA only checks T3 and T4 on me.

I bought the product called "New Skin" (if you are unfamiliar with it, it's like a "nail polish" in a bottle) that you put over that crack. Like a liquid bandaid. Dr Berry, can hypothryroid improve on a ketogneic diet? If so what does it do to facilitate that? Thank you for all your great videos!

@@brycefbarnes Regarding Keto and following it, I'm very strict. No grains, fruit, white sugar at all. I do still have issues with whole milk. I love the taste of a cold glass of milk. But I only drink half of what I once did.

OMG! I had 7 out of the ten symptoms. After 5 weeks in for carnivore diets, I still have three. Thank you so much for your altruistic and informative videos. I never knew that I had hypothyroidism if not for this video. I will stick to the carnivore diet to have it cured.

Dr. Berry would you please do a video for people who have had a thyroidectomy with regard to nuance, differing treatment, etc. Also, With initial diagnosis of hypothyroidism Hashimoto’s and thyroidectomy would testing for antibodies still be done? Thank you

If we'd only known these things a few years ago, my husband might still be here today. He had at least 7 of these signs. :(

I had hypothyroidism and was put on a synthetic medicine. The side affects were so severe that I weaned myself off. I pushed and pushed my Dr. to prescribe “Armour.” A more natural medicine. Armour has given me my quality of life back!

Were you on the synthetic med for a very long time before you began to wean yourself off? And how did you do it, can you please tell us exactly? Good on you, getting them to put you on Armour!

@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 The Dr. really pushed me to stay on the synthetic medicine. The side affects were worse than anything I’ve ever experienced. I was on it for approx 4-5 months. I lost faith in my Dr. and felt she wasn’t listening to my pleas… I took it upon myself after researching Levothyroxine that I could slowly take less and less of the drug until completely off of it. I can only assume my Dr. Was getting a kick-back from prescribing Levothyroxine…. After reading about Armour for hypothyroidism, I knew my system would tolerate it better. I have a very sensitive system. My Dr. finally gave in and prescribed it to me. I’m so glad I was relentlessly persistent. We have to be our own advocate!

I got my doctor to order an RT3 exam. It came back as a percentage, something around 65%-70%. But since, at least at the time, there wasn't an "official"test value, I couldn't get in to the endocrinologist because all my other labs were "normal". They weren't normal in relationship to each other, but that didn't matter either.
