Before we left we had been in various National and State Parks, such as Yosemite, Point Reyes, Big Basin, Golden Gate. After Reagan left as Gov the state started its decline. Massive people started moving in especially in SoCal and most of the orange groves were replaced 30 miles east of LA for housing and frwys. When me and my wife got our family to Northern VA the schools were bad and the costs of housing were higher. On a whole, I don't mind Californians. My interaction with them have been minimal. While living in London, a couple from California rented the flat below mine. I got a knock on the door. It was my neighbor, she informed me she was from California and asked if I had a hair dryer. My head was buzzed, had no use for a hair dryer. I told her no. She again mentioned she was from California. A few days later, she again knocked on the door and again opened up the conversation with the fact she was from California. She asked me if I knew where she could buy a hair dyer. I wondered if she had even left her flat, the apartment building was in Knightsbridge, a ton of shopping right outside the front door. I mentioned Boots a drug store, just around the corner. She asked if I knew any other shops? I told her I have not looked for one, so no. Well for an English man, you don't seem to know London. You think I am English? I am American, like you. She had to be off her rocker, I have a very thick Chicago accent. Back in the states, I worked at a hotel. I discovered it was not just the woman in London, every guest in the hotel that was from California felt they needed to tell you. It became a running joke at the hotel. You could walk up that path for a better view of the mountain, however by no stretch of the imagination was it a volcano. We pointed to the real Mt. A few years ago someone wrote an article on global warming refuge’s including the Duluth area in the article. Rich Californians came up bought up a bunch of the land for much more than it was worth driving up prices for other Minnesotans then left because they don’t really want to live there unless they have to.😂 The mayor wasn’t happy because he thought they’d bring more business. The locals weren’t happy because they were priced out of the real estate market and the same for the regional area which uses Northern Minnesota as a summer retreat. At least so far they haven’t returned to the north but they still own the land as far as I know.

Cons: Super expensive, a one bedroom apartment across the street from Topanga Plaza IYKYK mall is $2,700 per month, high state income taxes, high gas prices. You can have Kalifornication, and I would much better live in any south eastern state. You have a congress lady that would make a deal with the devil to benefit her self,a pathological lier named Schiff,a governor who is also a left wing lunatic, crime pretty much goes unpunished, wildfires daily, brown outs, and black outs, earth quakes, and water shortages. The cities have mayor's like the Governor, that allows homeless relieving themselves on the street, dirty needles left by addicts, and I can go on, but I think I won this argument. One more thing, the golden state is losing population and the states mentioned are gaining, what's that all about?

Interesting...some I didn't see coming! As for Tahoe...it's easy to get burned out on the constant flow of tourist traffic. There used to be shoulder seasons when we had the lake pretty much to ourselves. By the time I left in 2018, it felt more like a theme park than a state park. It's one of the most beautiful places in California if not the world, but it became a victim of its own popularity.

When Covid hit a lot of millennials from Silicon Valley bought houses in Tahoe so they could work from home. In my opinion, it changed Tahoe housing prices, and traffic, congestion
@feliciasampson8032Күн бұрын
@@kayte13 it was beginning to change around 2013. A former local was up from the Bay Area. He told me that Tahoe was being aggressively promoted on Bay Area TV stations. I started noticing changes like homeowners turning long-term rentals into airbnbs...next door neighbors did that. Some visitors were okay but some were really loud and boisterous, forgetting that people might have to get up for work in the morning. I recall an article in one of the local papers or online...they were saying that the new resident was the tech worker living in Tahoe/Truckee, working remotely and skiing whenever they wanted. Midweek skiing was blissful...by 2018, it was getting tough to find a parking place in the middle of the week.

@@Jacob-he1lg Once housing is figured-out (which is fine for anyone that bought in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s by now) then it becomes ALOT more manageable. In-fact the wages/salaries makes it WONDERFUL. Just like any place, getting here (and buying a home) is the hardest part. After that it's paradise. Imagine owning property anywhere near SF, LA, SD. You're pretty much GUARANTEED a great wage/salary as long as you work hard and arnt lazy, with the potential to earn MILLIONS per year if you have any intelligence/work-ethic at all.

They are not right and most of these states could not survive without our federal tax dollars which funds their infrastructure and services. 39 million people live in CA and we along with other blue states lead in the following economic sectors: clean energy, biotech, healthcare and education. While red states are cutting education and enacting laws that ban books and discriminate against women and other groups, we are doing the opposite. In fact, young, highly skilled workers are moving to California. For 140 years, people moved into California. These other states need to stop their whining. Americans are free to move anywhere they want. I'll stay in CA in my highly paid union job, fully paid medical benefits in retirement and Prop. 13. The Californians never really bothered me. I feel like they do come over here but just not as much as New Yorkers. New Yorkers don't bother me either. It's just one too many people move in an area all at one time that's when the pricing really goes up, which currently just happened in Ocala.

Couple thought came up while listening. When you mentioned mostly Seattle people complaining, how many CA’s move to a big city in their new state, or do they go rural? During a trip in Washington we stopped in Poulsbo, WA and meet a few from CA running their tourist shops there. How many of those from state x to CA are returning? Many of the CA’s moving to state x are moving with companies recruited by that states governor.🤷🏼.
