Xcom 2 was particularly bad about that. you pop out of stealth and take out a squad of aliens and all other aliens on the entire map know who you are, where you are, what you had for breakfast and what your dog's name is.

@@DarksideStreams I can't think of a certain example at the moment, but I've encountered situations in video games where guards were in a gunfight against other NPCs without having yet detected my character. Once you shoot at one of those guards then, they react like shit hasn't been going down already. So @L0BR0X definitely has a point here.

There are two things that annoy me. 1: Guards instantly know who killed other guards, even if you are hiding in a crowd of people, they only go for you. 2: When sneaking inside an enemy base full of guards, every guard gets suspecious if he hears... footsteps. COME ON. the base is full of people walking around but my footsteps makes you investigate?

My stealth skill in fallout 4 is so high, I can one-shot a raider in the chest with an unsilenced pistol (the unique .44 "the gainer" to be exact), and if I'm sneaking from a few yards away or more, they almost immediately forget about their friend being shot right in front of them. I like when they blame their drug use for it, like their friend just overdosed, or they're hallucinating. Anyways, let this be a lesson to you all: There's a fine line between skepticism and denial.

#8: I've worked as a guard, and would often sneak behind/follow co-workers to demonstrate how weak their general awareness was (I'm kind of a jerk like that). I like to think I'D notice, but no, you'd be surprised how often people just don't. Good tactical boots make almost no sound, especially if you sync your footsteps to theirs.

Thief: The Dark Project, and Thief II: The Metal Age, are the two best stealth games ever made simply because you have to play stealthy. The games teach you that your character isn't built for fighting, and the levels are so expertly designed and non linear in nature. Masterpieces.

In Hitman the disguise thing pissed me off. In real life, people aren't gonna suspect you to be a random guy who doesn't work there. If I saw a random guy in uniform at my work, I'd probably be like "Hmm he must be new. Whatever." However, in the newer ones, they did make it more realistic where the boss people are a bit more aware, but it still seems pretty unrealistic sometimes.

Something I really miss about the old Splinter Cell games is the sneaking, it seems a lot more realistic compared to the newer games. It's clear that they have tried to go for a more fluid and animated style, I think it takes away from the experience in some ways. A lot of Sams actions now seem to take control away from the player as well and that diminishes my immersion in some ways.

Thing that annoys me in these games... Dead bodies always must be from you... In Assassins Creed I used to poison guards and make them go berserk and swing around their weapons. While they did I would toss coins on to the ground in front of them that other guards or peasants would run in to snatch up. They then got chopped down by the guard freaking out swinging their sword with dozens of bystanders watching it happen but instantly upon finding the body the guards all agro on you. Pay no mind to the guy literally swinging his sword around cutting people down without mercy. It must be that guy 30 feet away standing in a middle of a crowd of people. I feel like the Dishonored series handled a lot of these pretty darn well. Guards disappearing turn other guards immediately suspicious. They know someone is supposed to be there. They'll even start searching hiding spots! Peeking from cover has to be a quick blip or guards will start to investigate. A guard who gets hit with something will hunt your ass down. The only one they absolutely do is giving you a bazillion cool toys and then slapping your hand for using them. Don't make a super fun combat system and then yell at us for choosing to use it!
