Have you *never* put a Lego in your mouth after you were over that instinctive absolutely-everything-goes-in-my-mouth stage that makes people keep all bricks far away from you anyway? Kids aren't too sophisticated for a while after that, but they aren't totally brainless either; they can figure out what their mouths are telling them. You can detect in an instant that bricks aren't candy or something pleasant to eat... no matter how one looks to the eye. Your senses of sound, smell, taste, and touch say every factor that would spell 'edible' is missing. Your mind is developed enough you'll want to act on the information, and while you're hunting for candy your young brain will make a priority of figuring out what lookalikes to ignore as useless.

My proposed theories for why each set was rejected- M&M Dispenser-Most likely licensing issues with Mars League Of Legends-Not sure, but maybe the content of the game? Portal-Lego Ideas does not allow licenses that already have Lego products Spirited Away-Strider’s reasoning makes the most sene Jurassic Park-Same reasoning as Portal Lego Store Within A Lego Store Within A Lego Store-No idea Coraline-Possibly because it’s a horror movie, but hey, we have Lego Stranger Things, so no clue Indonomous Rex-Same as Jurassic Park and Portal Hulkbuster-There are literally Hulkbuster Lego sets Power Rangers-Lego’s definitely not making sets for a competing company

To be honest about Spirited Away, a theory I have is honestly some of the designs. Namely No Face whose got a very cold and eerie design about him. Given he was a somewhat major character in the movie, not including him would be like not having Luke Skywalker in a set for A New Hope. Also yes, according to Brickipedia, the reason for League of Legends' rejection was due to content. I don't know anything about the game so I don't know what makes it repulsive to Lego but maybe it's the same reason Among Us was presumably rejected. Namely, the latter is about discreetly murdering your friends.

Maybe it's the wrong idea about these mysterious rejections, but I feel like the most usual reason for the sets not hitting the shelves might have been the simple reason that some other ideas were better. Nowadays we get more than 30 sets in each review announcement, with often only 2 sets being approved. And with the quality of all of those sets being sky-high, there's no wonder some incredible and popular ideas get left off. Also, I feel like Lego is often hesitant to approve licensed sets due to the unsureness of how relevant the set is going to be when it actually does come out a year and a half later after the approval. Say, for example, the Fall Guys set by Ashnflash, which probably got rejected because of exactly that. And then there's the cases when an idea gets into the review state for multiple times and eventually gets accepted, with Sonic The Hedgehog and The Office sets being prime examples here. At the same time, there's multiple cases of licensed sets getting approved with the first appearance, so in the end, it's tough to comment on. But that's overall the way I see it.
@aze5592 жыл бұрын
It's really hard to also deny bias in picks as well. In the cases where somethings may be equally good products and have the same projected sales numbers they might just pick something, in most cases some ip, because they prefer it. There's really nothing wrong with this from the lego designers, but it still is extraordinarily frustrating for everyone, for both voters of the rejected sets because they think that set is better or because it's their own personal preference set and the designer who put a lot of effort into their sets to be turned down for that reason. The only thing they can do is try again until it gets accepted, give up or given an official reason to it being turned down. In that case some form of closure is better because you can at least get good feedback and some idea on what to do next, being in the dark about being turned down and only trying again is the worst outcome.
@henrysokol34662 жыл бұрын
I think the gamer toxicity as a whole may have made Lego nervous about League of Legends. Have you been there or some other MMOs, and really considered what gets onto the chat channels? People get UGLY. They develop a sort of secondary 'Mister Hyde' personality used when they deal with each other online, but it's so 'par for the course' in the culture everyone acts like it's an acceptable thing. Lego is very self-conscious about trying to project a family-friendly image. Although the game content is popular and cool, they might have been nervous about corporate association with such a gameplay environment. The press might have a field day.

Honestly the most logical reason for the MMPR set not being produced is due to the effort Lego would have to go through dealing with the rights to the franchise not just with what Saban Entertainment produced for the show but also the original Super Sentai footage and design rights which are from Japan and an entirely different copyright system than in the US.

Quite a few of these were rejected because when the sets are chosen only 2 or 3 are picked so others ideas take more priority
@VPalamedes252 жыл бұрын
If I may put my 2 cents, I think the likely reason certain sets were rejected were because of possible production costs. While not all the sets are that crazy & there are certainly some complex lego sets out there, those are usually the more expensive kind. While this is mainly a personal theory, it's not that unlikely though I should of course stress that this is just what I think as a baseline reasoning for certain set ideas & less about the more specific reasons for some like the Jurassic Park set in this video
@matthewkuscienko46162 жыл бұрын
It's entirely possible, but I'm not sure if that's even the biggest contributing factor behind why a lot of these ideas were rejected. I also recall that there are some highly complex sets that were produced by the Lego Ideas system, with 2 in particular that I happen to own being the tree house set with over 3000 pieces, including the ability to swap between green leaves for spring and summer and fall colored leaves. The other set of note being the Lego Voltron set, which even was engineered to be able to go back and forth between the 5 individual lions that make it up and the combined giant robot itself, which I was personally amazed that they were able to pull off, and makes me hopeful that a Lego Power Rangers set could in fact be made one day as well

My opinion with some of these sets being rejected is due to them being too close to something they're already working on, or part of a license that probably prevents them sharing royalties with a third party. As for the Studio Ghibli one, I think I read somewhere that they're a bit like Nintendo; they don't want to dilute the quality of their IPs by leasing the rights to "third party" companies. Sure they'll release a Totoro hoodie here, a Catbus plus there... but there are very few legit Studio Ghibli toys out there. They may operate on the fear that kids might play with their toys "wrong." Kinda like how, when Nintendo finally allowed for a Lego Mario, it's in a manner where you're basically playing Mario with a physical toy, and not a Mario playset where you can potentially give him a gun to shoot things.

The hulkbuster ideas set was probably rejected because not only is marvel an existing theme, they’ve already made multiple hulkbuster sets (and with a similar reason for the indominus rex) but this is just my theory

I think they should make an adult line of legos with more adult themes. Nothing to heinous but i think there’s an untapped market with adult values.

That M&M Dispenser should've been accepted by lego. They may have been sitting on a gold mine

It like Jurassic World and Hulkbuster were: "Ehh sorry...but we already had plans for our own versions in the pipelines for both licensed films." Still the Lego Ideas judging system is deeply flawed. But people show amazing potential.
@mammutMK22 жыл бұрын
Then the bring you a simular set. In those cases I just have the feeling they wanted to save royalties. And then you can't sell that idea to a other companie (even though it would be hilarious when mould king brings out a Lego store set) or just sell it on rebrickable as Lego gets all the rights when it's placed in ideas.

18:00 can somewhat confirm that the ranger color thing was somewhat of an accident. I went to a local convention a while back that had a Q and A panel with Walter Jones (the actor for Zack, the black ranger) and he apparently chose to be the black ranger.

I would have LOVED the Coraline set. It’s one of my favourite movies Also as someone who is currently watching (and loving) Red Dwarf, I would have loved that set aswell. In response to your question, my favourite season is either Season 4 or 5
@real100022 жыл бұрын
It's usually either licensing issues or they consider the set too violent, and with hulkbuster its probably because theyve already made a hulkbuster

Legos are so cool, video just started and I already want the first set lol
@ktoon47252 жыл бұрын
My thought why they didn’t do the cool Hulk Buster was because they’ve already done probably 5 official HulkBuster sets in the last few years. Your reasons given are also possible and probably were additional factors but personally I feel they didn’t want to flood the stores with 20 different versions of the same set

A speculation on why Lego may not have approve League of Legends sets is maybe there’s a specific thing in their contract with Blizzard entertainment, which is a rival of Riot games, but idk
@TDM11382 жыл бұрын
So complete speculation on my part, but I remember that MMPR set, and I think it actually got 10,000 while Mega Blox still had the MMPR license. No clue if they still do, but there was a time a few years ago when they were doing I think one Megazord and then blind bags of those slightly more articulated MB mini figures of the Rangers and some villains.
@AkumaTh2 жыл бұрын
It was most likely because Mega Bloks had the rights to them. Now that Hasbro owns Power Rangers, that could prevent them from doing so in the future.
@lorddrayvon14262 жыл бұрын
@@AkumaTh ya ask me, they rejected Power Rangers due to Hasbro arguably being either amongst or at the top of the list of Lego's biggest competitors. It's kinda like if McDonald's ran a campaign promoting Burger King.

@@AkumaTh the thing is that Transformers is...well Transformers. It's absolutely guaranteed to get the pennies rolling. As much as I love Power Rangers dearly,. Yes, I am a fan of Red Dwarf. I love all the seasons, even the new ones. Season 8 is fun just for the new setting but I love 5 or 6 the best, despite the two of them being very different. Can see why they would reject the Lego set but I would buy it. Also love the Lego games and now I wish Lego Red Dwarf was real just so a Lego Red Dwarf game could be real. But I am still waiting on a Lego Ninjago game not based on the movie, so beggers can't be choosers.

One of the funniest things about the Jurassic Park model is that the Tyrannosaurus Lego model itself, despite being stylised, actually looks more realistic in shape than any of the dinosaurs the Jurassic Park or Jurassic World franchises have ever shown on screen. Pssst, in case it's not obvious....they're horribly inaccurate, particularly the Jurassic World ones (those are abominations).

A possible reason why the Lego Store set got rejected is because they couldnt get the architect of whoever built the building to give them permission. Buildings sometimes have architectural copyrights tied to them. It probably wouldnt have actually gotten them successfully sued even if they went ahead and made the set because its likely different enough in design due to being made out of Lego but I dont think the Lego company would bother risking that, especially since it'd potentially upset the building's owners or cause bad PR.
@thefanwithoutaface81052 жыл бұрын
18:07 Uh, why exactly? Yes I can confirm it was an accident as the original Yellow ranger was of Latin American descent but was replaced with Thuy Tran later and from what I've heard Walter Jones has no issue being the Black Ranger, hell he celebrates it most of the time. But what exactly are we saying, that it's an issue that a black person is wearing black and an asian person is wearing Yellow? By that logic it should be a problem if the White Ranger is a White guy. They are just colors, race has nothing to do with it and even the actors themselves didn't have a problem with it so who cares.
@troodon10962 жыл бұрын
In reality the rejection probably has nothing to do with that; it's likely just a licensing issue, as Hasbro has the rights to do Mighty Morphin toys outside of Japan.

My favourite season of red dwarf would have to be IV, it’s the season I remember seeing the most as a kid and it’s filled with classic episodes, my personal favourite being Meltdown. I do however have a soft spot for the first two seasons for being remarkable character studies and exploring the true existential dread of Rimmer and Lister’s situation (citing The Observation Dome scene from season two, which I find to be the best representation of Rimmer’s pain and it being one of those great moments of friendship between he and Lister).
