Brandi didn't start wrestling under his own name on his own. Marc Mero outed him as Tom Brandi when he was supposed to wrestle Mero as Salvatore Sincere. Mero in a rant pointed at him and said, "Your name is Tom Brandi" and said that he was a jobber and the 2 started a bit of a feud.

Doug Gilbert's inclusion wasn't intended to highlight their USWA connection in WWE but to draw local interest to USWA. USWA was WWE's development territory at the time and this would not be unlike NXT's contests to send a wrestler to the Rumble. Dick Murdoch's appearance isn't that odd when you consider that due to how weak the roster was, the original idea was to make it a mix of current talent, legends, and talent from outside the organization. (ECW's Taz has said he was also supposed to be in this event.) Unfortunately, this was the height of the Monday Night Wars so no one trusted the WWE not to make them look bad so the plan fell through and Murdoch was the only legend signed to the event.

Yeah I'd have slipped that in, for those of us outside of America, because being the host of a popular gameshow usually is big business for the country you're in but it doesn't normally translate well to elsewhere. Tony Barber, Baby John Burgess, Ian Turpie and others were icons in Australian gameshow history but I doubt anyone that reads this has ever heard of any of them. I mean hell I know Bob Barker's considered a legend there but I'd barely know he existed if not for Happy Gilmore.

The funnier one is about when he worked for Bill Watts and once threatened not to cash a $1 cheque that Watts had paid him after fining him saying he would frame it for the bar that he owned and thus drive Watts mad while Watts tried to account for the money.
