@ Silent Mind I'm pretty sure, by definition, these people were all perfect examples of being stubborn. I think people aren't exactly sure of what the word stubborn means. Everyone is getting all defensive like them being called stubborn is a bad thing. All being stubborn means in this case is that people are strong-willed and won't change very easily. That is exactly what was said and meant, and that's not a bad thing. It is good to be stubborn about your morals and things you believe in, don't just follow people and go with the flow because everyone else is doing it. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, it doesn't make you wrong.

Those who plan the roads seems just as stubborn as the homeowners. If they can't build the road straight ahead, they don't build it at all or do dumb things like 4:07 (it was plenty of space to build the road beside the house). I'm also pretty shure at least some of the owners of the houses beside the farm would sell (just enough to get the road beside the farm). I could get it if it was a high speed rail they built, since they radius of the turns has to be enormous - but a few more turns on a road just make it more fun to drive, LOL!!

Houses can be lifted off of foundations and relocated intact, if not, in sections. There are special trailers that the buildings are transported on and, depending upon the size of the house, a space allowance on upwards of four lanes or more are required. It can cost as much as two hundred-thousand USD to move a large house only a few miles away. An Amish family in the Roaring Springs/Martinsburg, PA, USA area had their home moved years ago, and they paid in cash upfront. It's a sizeable farmhouse.

As long as you actually own the land, as in payed in full, no mortgage or not land/house given or paid for you by the government, legally they can't make you move, no one can. It is why often times they will just try to buy you out with increasing value, or they will strong arm you.

@@Taladays37 That's why they have Eminent Domain, taking of land by the govt for "public use". However, there was the case down in New London, CT (I think it was) where the city or State took a lot of land and homes, by Eminent Domain, for the benefit of a Private Developer who was going to build private condos or something. They claimed that the "for public use" was satisfied cuz the City was going to get MORE Real Estate Taxes which it could then put to "public use" for all in the community. I believe the case went all the way to the US Supreme Court, which actually ruled in favor of the Developer/City/State and against the people. Last thing I heard, nothing new had eve been developed on the property, and the City never received and increased R.E. taxes.

@ekin thao I'm pretty sure, by definition, these people were all perfect examples of being stubborn.

American logic - in the US, if it's a project for "public good," like highway or airport, the local authorities will just eminent domain your property for a fraction of market value. It's only in China and Japan, where people's right to property is actually respected, do you have situations with highway building around a house.

They'll just take by Eminent Domain, and give you 10 cents on the dollar. That's how they built the Mass Pike, at least towards the end as it coming into Boston. The Developer just had the State take all these homes by Eminent Domain. The people didn't even know what was going on, had no say in it. Then developer would show up at people house with an $8,000 check and say "you don't live here anymore, get out". That was that. This was in the early to mid 1950's.
