Bowlers and boaters are both very bold stylistic choices, but I personally feel that they have not survived the test of time in the way other classic garments have. You’ll definitely receive attention on the streets, but unfortunately more out of humour than admiration or curiosity... Unless you’re in the fashion/artistic industry - you might get away with it then.

@@dillonjeffares4434 I disagree, simply because I have received nothing but compliments whenever I wore my boater hat in the summer. Maybe the fact I'm from England, and live in England helps because of the historic connections the hat has here. I also own a Bowler hat, but I've not worn it in public yet, but more because the colder seasons are only approaching now. I think it's all about how confident you are in a hat, and if you're wearing an appropriate outfit that fits the formality of the hat. If you're uncomfortable in the hat, it will show and people will pick up on it. That is the problem with society today. Because people hardly dress well, and only see people in films that are dressed well, they associate dressing well with a costume. Take Dapper Day at Disneyland for example.

I am a native speaker (57 year old American) and I also thinks he speaks quickly. It probably still just a little nervousness in front of the camera. Nothing against Kyle, but I prefer Svens' and Preston's classic style a little more than Kyles modern take. I can't see Sven recommending a crew neck sweater (with no collared shirt under it), Chinos, and SNEAKERS as a "classic men's wear" outfit.

Great video, the combination sweater plus coat is very versatile. On the linguistic side, here in Peru, we call sweaters "chompas", dereived from the British jumper, which sailors brought in the late 19th/early 20th century. We also call turtlenecks "cuello Jorge Chávez" for an early 20th century Franco-Peruvian pilot who wore them in his flights.

Well done, Kyle. I appreciated this video. I love extra fine merino wool V-necks in solid colors and find them to be highly versatile. In particular, I recommend the often overlooked color of baby blue for this style of sweater; it reads almost as a neutral in a classic men’s wardrobe palette, it works equally well with earth tones and shades of grey, and I find it provides better contrast than darker blues in monochromatic looks with staple items like a navy blazer or dark wash denim. A crisp white shirt underneath looks spectacular on most guys as part of a business casual or smart casual ensemble. Keep up the fine work!

As a loyal GG fan, here's some constructive feedback for Kyle: you're a well-rounded gentleman with a vast knowledge of classic menswear--that's great! I'd just recommend you work on intonation as the video can be quite monotonous and make it difficult to follow. This was Preston´s case at first, but he has improved substantially! Just a thought that I believe will make Kyle's videos more interesting to watch.

I was wondering why you didn't include norwegian/scandinavian sweaters. I mean, they are somewhat similar to fair isle sweaters, but they are clearly distinct. And since they commonly tend to be on the bulkier side of sweaters, I would argue that they can take the same place in a gentleman's wardrobe as for example an Aran sweater. Also, is linen really a more common material for sweaters than silk? If so, I obviously shop in the wrong places. :-D

Hey Kyle, as a bigger fella I like to wear a sweater with a shirt underneath as it makes me feel less “on display”. I struggle to find a material/knit that hits the sweet spot of being heavy enough to not show all the contours of my body while still not being too hot. The only options I have found so far are half zips but I would much prefer to stay classic - any tips? Great video by the way!

It’s a year later, but I’d suggest a cable knit sweater. Patterns tend to ”hide” the extra weight. Did you find a sweater that suited you since your comment?

I really dislike the American tendency to wear NO layer underneath their jumper. It's not a very good way to prolong the life if the material - wearing at least an undershirt means you won't need to wash it as often, so as to extend the life of the jumper.
