My husband dropped about 30 lbs (13 kg or about 2 stone) and suddenly his suits made him look like a kid wearing his dad's clothes. He bought 3 new tailored suits and a tux and looks great when we go to more dressy events. We were dressing up for Halloween and since he is tall, we went for a Frankenstein's monster/Bride of Frankenstein theme. I wanted one of his old suit jackets that we could pad out the shoulders for the Monster to wear. We couldn't find one in time. Oh well.

I love the shout out to Hawaii! As a Hawaiian sartorial dresser, I love seeing vintage Hawaiian photos with classic summer-weight fabric suits/ensembles and straw hats. Unfortunately those days have passed, but one thing I would like to point out about the video is that the genre of "Hawaiian shirts" or "Aloha Shirts" is actually quite diverse. There is a hierarchy of fabric quality, pattern/design, and cuts. These shirts have quite a history that is unique to our state, which is why it feels culturally "out of context" elsewhere in the world. I learned this the hard way myself! On one end, some Aloha shirts are designed to look very professional and "classic," while others on the other end of the spectrum are designed for tourists/parties. Understanding the spectrum of nuance - which types of shirt are acceptable given the situation and one's role in it - is key in Hawaii. Additionally, we started Aloha Friday (the tradition of wearing aloha shirts to work on Fridays) to help support our local textile industry, which has, unfortunately, shrunk considerably. I would say that anyone who has graced our shores and truly appreciates the ʻĀina and our way of life should pick one up. There's even a style that would suit gentlemen such as yourself!

I was over 200 shirts at one point, but I've culled severely and risen back into the low 100s. I wear them daily (In Nebraska) and after 20-odd years of collecting I only buy a new shirt if it meets my quality criteria. Obviously, not for everybody. But as this channel has said before, wearing a quality garment with confidence is sometimes all you need.

I'd argue the fact that style and confidence merges in a way that creates such subjectivity and opinion that it boils down to this: wear it if you like it and makes you confident, let it go if it doesn't. You can see this holds true even to him as his opinion of his own changes over time along with what's popular and unique design preferences

I have 1 pair of trousers that are 32" waist and a Harris Tweed jacket that doesn't quite fit around the middle, they were tailored to fit when I was about 27 and they also cost a small fortune at the time and after a long battle with weight (300 pounds to 185 pounds) I keep these items in the wardrobe as I live and hope that I will fit into them again, It will feel like closure of my weight troubles. just before the pandemic, I was so close, about 3 pounds away from fitting into them comfortably, now after a bead few months I'm an extra 4- 5 pounds on top of that I was nearly close to giving up. But now after losing a few pound I'm confident that I'm back on track, so I'm just not ready to give up on them just yet, especially when I feel I'm so close to my target weight. My deal is, If I'm not at my target weight by the end of the year. The items of clothing will go to my local clothing charity. The clothes will be 15 years old by then and If I don't fit into them after all that time, might as well swallow my pride and get rid.

I bought a beautiful (and expensive) black suit and had a tailor finish the trousers and adjust the jacket. When I collected it, I brought it in its suit holder back to the office. When I arrived, my colleagues told me that there had just been an announcement that the office was going business casual, and formal suits and ties were being actively discouraged. So the suit still sits in my wardrobe. I've never worn it. As I bought it 1999 it has the high gorge, 3 button style of the day that would look very dated today. What a waste of money .... The only other thing I ever bought that went to the charity shop unworn was a printed orange shirt that I liked, but just didn't have the balls to wear out. Being older now, I'd wear it as I don't care what people think to the degree that I did as a younger man in my early 20's. You live. You learn

I bought them from my local Sears as my first professional garment along with a pair of polyester pants. No no noooo... please DON'T donate clothes to Goodwill. Making an already poor guy unfashionable as well is just...cruel.

Agreed. Throwing away clothes is moronic

Unfashionable clothes always make a comeback after a few years. I kept my outfits from the 2000s and wear them much more frequently now because everyone is wearing similar stuff from the stores

a black is always a keeper for its straight lines and formality , good for funerals and and job interviews and for going to court or for still looking cool

Great video, thanks (I'm on a marathon of your channel). Just one thing, when you mention another content during the video, with de miniature included, it doesn't work, you can´t click on the offered content. It happens in all the videos.

Totally agreed about the black suit but as a musician I still get calls where I’m expected to wear a black suit or tuxedo (I used to own my own tux) for some shows. These days I wear the black suit and no one in the audience can tell the difference between that and the tux. Thanks for all the great advice.

I have a pair of pattened leather wing tip shoes. I was regluing the heels last night. It's time for them to go

Very good looking as a youth. All white like that was the style. Born in ‘84 here and during 97-99. That was the boy-band look.

Well designed black suits are beneficial for business purposes, church discipline, and funeral’s. They will always be in style.

hehe.. I will totally admit that I have a box of silk dress pants that I picked up when Bachrach was going under. I am glad I loaded up when I did. the whole skinny/stretch thing happened and now mens ware has gone full on fast fashion. So, good luck finding dress pants that are this well made. Also, black suits have a time and place. Just keep them in their lane.

I'm listening to this video while i clean my new white leather sneakers I bought a month ago after I started getting interested in mens fashion. As I'm frowning at discoloration on the toe Raphael says "that you can get from Johnston and Murphy..." Yeah...

I used to buy those dress shirts in weird flashy jewel tone colors (bottle green, burnt orange, dark brown, etc.), but I agree they were always hard to combine with anything without looking like someone from a gangster movie. The only dark shirts I wear now are navy blue, but even that is a little hard to pull off.

I prefer square-toed shoes and boat shoes. I like oxford wingtips as well but the right time to wear them is difficult to pinpoint in my daily life. Honestly, I think everything you're pushing out is subject to preference.

A nice list and a reminder to get through my wardrobe and rid of rarely worn clothes. But I wouldn't agree to the point about bold coloured dress shirts, or to be precise, I wouldn't agree to 100%. As I am on the dandy side of menswear it's something I like and wear since years, because it gives the outfit the little extra. But I would agree that it's not the right kind of shirt for an formal outfit.

Omg. Many of these things also apply to women's wardrobe.

Especially the overabundance of black. Whenever Raphael mentions it, I think of Trinny and Susannah telling countless people to ditch the worn out black "safety" clothes and find more colour that suits you. It's more work, yes, but it's so much better for your look and your confidence when you figure it out! Black - in moderation only

Just cleared out about 10 very shiny ties I bought when I was 20 and just getting into clothes. But I kept my lime green wool one 😂
