Kiddie pool in the backyard is my hack for enjoying my summer garden. Just dunk yourself and keep going. Another dunk, drink water, and free to garden some more. 😊

Great advice! These videos are really helpful for hot climates! I started using 40/30% shade cloth here in 9B last year because of these record high heat summers and it really helps cut down on extreme UV, in central Florida there is such a thing as too much sun, sometimes even for eggplant. under the shade cloth my collards still aren't showing any sign of bolting yet this year! Another thing I have done for pest pressure (especially bigheaded ants spreading aphids and mealybugs) is to trim any the leaves about a foot off the ground of stemmed plants like tomatoes and flowers to allow ventilation, reduce water splash-back, and easy inspection for mealybugs. Florida gardeners should also check for potassium deficiency, as it can lead to stunted plants, poor root growth, and vulnerability to the heat. it usually presents as yellowing of the leaves from the outside/ browning of the leaf edges, especially on older leaves, as our fast-draining soils do not hold potassium well. adding biochar and soilbuilding with organic matter really helps. as well as something like Espoma tomato tone which is 6-4-4. this helped things like my hops, peppers and eggplants come back to life when suffering in the summer. I have been battling with root knot nematodes for years another control option I have been wanting to try for a couple of years is biofumigation, where you would plant a cover crop of certain plants, especially mustards and French marigolds. you would allow the mustard to bolt to flowering (for highest levels of glucosinolates) and then chop up and work into your soil. mustard cake or neem cake are also on my list of things to try!

My summer garden routine is watering, harvesting and 15 minutes of weeding in the evening from 7 PM till sunset. During the day, I might work on areas of my garden that are in the shade if there is a breeze going through. I use the summer months to dehydrate herbs and propagate new herbs in doors. I'm growing cut flowers and rewarding myself with pretty bouquets to bring a little bit of my garden inside. And I focus on my herb garden, which I have planted in pots under my car port. I take advantage of overcast and rainy days to do other garden projects such as transplanting plants into my garden. This heat is a real beast here in Florida zone 9b. 😊

I’m into aquaponics, but most of these tips still apply. I was so happy that my summer greens germinated seedlings were ready to plant and go kick butt in south Texas. Well, I’m not going to throw them away, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

1st week of June and heat & humidity getting intense in Biloxi, Mississippi. Always so interesting to see some plants die with those conditions while some plants thrive in same conditions! Yes, staying hydrated, and time management is important for gardeners. As we care for our gardens, we need to care for ourselves in high heat. Rewards are delicious foods! Thanks for video🌺

@JerrasGarden aww man, that's not cool. I finally found a friend with a trailer to help me before I learned about the delivery. I think they also offer truck/trailer rentals once a year for free at some locations.

The everglades tomatoes that I got from you are doing very well here in San Antonio. The red spider mites do not seem to be attracted to them nor are they suffering from the heat like other tomatoes. What I really wanted to convey to you was my mother's treatment for corn worms. She would squirt a small amount of mineral oil into the top of the developing corn. I have used an eye dropper, syringe and now use pipettes. No problem with worms now.

With spider mites I rotate daily with spinosad, Neem, and spraying the leaves hard with water. Twice a week each. I don’t know which one works but it helps keep the numbers down but hasn’t even gotten rid of them. Now I hear you saying spinosad works so I may just use that and see what happens. I’ve also recently heard planting alliums helps so I can’t say yet if it helps.

If you feel yourself overheating, then don't just drink the water, pour it over your head. While keeping yourself hydrated is super important, to keep the body and head cool it helps to wear a wet hat and damp, loose shirt.
