Thanks for the valuable info Jerra! Here's a tip to avoid that long crooked stem that brassicas get. So you fill your pot/cell with soil, take a pencil and make hole in the middle all the way near the bottom of the pot and plant your seed and as the seedling grows just fill in the hole you made and you'll end up with a straight seedling to put in the garden. I learned from another YT gardening channel and it works great on all brassicas.🌱

I do the same because my garden is small and I love when a plant can provide many different types of crops. I love my greens luckily! I had a kohlrabi that never bulbed up but grew many side shoots with massive leaves (it was just too hot for it to bulb when I planted it) but I got to enjoy its leaves for nearly a year! It supplemented my collards perfectly towards my goal of growing enough greens for a year.😊

I pinch the flowers and grow for the leaves only. I chop leaves into roughly 1"x1" pieces and freeze. They don't clump because the leaves are waxy. I have broccoli all winter long for soups, chillies, salads and smoothies. Leaves are far far more dense in nutrients than the flower heads.

Are those broccoli plants almost as tall as you are? I am growing two plants for the first time and don't know how tall they get. Also, one of the two are developing a head and the other isn't. Do you know what I can do to get this one to create a head.
@JerrasGarden9 ай бұрын
Yes, broccoli plants get very big. They tend to start producing heads randomly and staggered. That is completely normal, just let them be. I prefer it that way because otherwise I would be stuck with a huge amount of broccoli at once.
