I can very much relate to the feeling of not understanding the universal praise of certain games. I know that what i am about to say is probably controversial, but i never understood why the Witcher 3 is so highly praised, i mean it is a good game, but... It quickly gives you so many dots on the map, i feel the game drowns in itself.

Mine is Skyrim. Love morrowind, love the fallout games and actually enjoyed starfield despite it's flaws. I've never completed Skyrim, I always get bored ! I don't know exactly what it is. Not that I didn't have fun, I just didn't connect to it like I wanted. Every time I try again it falls flat for me. Tears of the kingdom is a little divisive at times. But my dad passed away and I put over 200 hours spread into a year on the game. It was the best gaming experience I have had. I do think you need a specific mindset for the game. If you don't have time or you have to play other games, I feel it's going to be a bit of an overwhelming chore for some. I guess my situation helped as it was escapism too. Happy Christmas everyone .

I love the concept of this video. I hope you feel better soon before the holidays. I had this with 3 games recently. 1. I loved TOTK and actually prefer it to BOTW (as I do prefer the building aspect), but I would agree that it seems like you don't need both games...they are ALMOST the same game. I wish they would've gone to different worlds somehow. I'm not into the lore behind everything, so maybe that's what I'm missing? 2. On another note, I enjoyed the atmospheric feel of animal well, but found many of the areas unattainable for myself. 3. Echoes of wisdom just felt so much of a chore. I feel bad saying that, but I was able to gift it to my brother and he loves it. So, I'm glad he is enjoying the mechanics.

Wow, so interesting to see so many people agree about TotK 😅. I am somewhat in that boat, I have 50-60 hrs in but barely scratched the surface. I spent a few hundred hours in BotW and I think exploring all of those areas again plus the underground and the sky feels overwhelming. It’s just hard for me to justify sinking another 200 hours into TotK (I have a Completionist compulsion)… I also have to nominate Outer Wilds for this list. I know many people are obsessed, but I have a hard time with the landing controls on Switch and it’s just hard for me to get into. I don’t know what I should be doing, so during most of the loops I waste too much time going to random locations, landing poorly, and wasting too much time trying to repair my ship (assuming my character doesn’t die immediately 😭).

For me, it’s totk and botw, though both are good games, in terms of exploration. It’s great to go around the map and discover, however the story and sidequest are not compelling. I’m not moved by the characters and I don’t feel the urgency within the world of defeating Ganon/Ganondorf. Also, the upgrades in both games seems to me gamebreaking; why should I cook if I have Mipha’s grace healing me, why climbing if I can use Revali’s gale or build a plane. Still it didn’t stop me from playing them hundred hours.

Super interesting concept, really enjoyed it. For me, it's not Disco Elysium (work of art that one). I can understand the Zelda echoes of wisdom, really repetitive in the end... I'll say "Coccoon" for me, I see the appeal and the originality of it, and maybe is the "life moment" I'm at right now, the age, whatever, but I didn't have the patient for the puzzles and the extreme backtracking. Controversial one, I know is a great and original game.

Yeah I totally get that, I must’ve got (2/3rds?) of the way through when I just… sort of lost interest 🤷🏻♂️. I think for me there was an increasing sense that the puzzles were just a case of ‘flipping switches’ in the way the devs expected you to, if that makes sense? Looked lovely though!

@BlueKudu-33 Yeah, that's exactly it. In the end I just checked a guide to solve a couple of puzzles and get it done. Super beautiful, great boss fights, but maybe is the "not having all the time in the world" nowadays that make us impatient. Happy holidays!

Zelda echoes of wisdom was a roller coaster of emotions. Before launch, I started on a low but got more excited. At launch, I was pleasantly surprised. I've definitely had games that I've seen reviewed well and highly recommended for my particular interest bounce off me entirely. Even games recommended from SwitchUp like BombRush Cyberfunk (loved Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 and 2), Batman Arkham Trilogy (love Spiderman 2 on PS2) and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with plenty more. It goes to show how individualised gaming is and the struggles developers face in creating immersive experiences that cater to as many people as possible and still return a profit to continue supporting their releases and making more games. Cheers SwitchUp!

I totally get what you guys mean. I am literally the target audience for otome visual novels, I love reading, I love dating sim parts of games, I love manwha's about otome games. But for some reason... I just, can't connect. I've tried so many, most recently Cupid Parasite, Bustafellows, and steam prison. I just don't know. It should work for me, and by so many accounts they're really good. But I just don't GET them. I don't even know how to define and explain how I feel about TotK. It's not disappointment. It's a GOOD game. I think maybe it's just impossible to capture the magic the way BotW did. Maybe it's not fair for me to expect that of TotK. Because BotW feels like something that only happens very rarely. A mix of anticipation, a new shiny console, a game philosophy that wasn't captured like that before. I don't know. But it makes me a little sad. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I love cozy casual farming games and I've been struggling to get into a lot of the newer ones all trying to capture Stardew and failing for me(like Coral Island or Fae Farm). But I recently started playing Roots of Pacha, and it finally scratched that itch! If anyone else has been trying to find something good in that genre, and struggling, I recommend.

The witcher 3 was my absolute favorite game and so when i heard of BOTW & TOTK i had to try it…..saved up and bought a used switch lite solely to try both of them, needless to say it’s been sitting idle in my shelf for nearly 2 years now and i still can’t bring myself to fully invest in them. I played a couple hrs of BOTW and it dawned on me what sort of time investment this one needs and the plethora of “the best way to play” videos i had to research on youtube…..i love that the developers put so much work into all the detailed mechanics; wish they also gave us a way to learn about them while playing. So i hated the loop of getting stuck and going into youtube to learn how to do it. If you look at the history i have more hrs on youtube about the game than the game itself. That being said I will get into again some day and finish it for the story but I don’t think I’ll ever get back into it again afterwards.

Void bastards was a great game, I haven’t played wild bastards but it didn’t entice me as much as the first game did. Tears of the kingdom had some lofty expectations to live up to and that’s always difficult to meet. The dungeons were enjoyable and depths were a creative expansion of the world but became very rinse and repeat for me especially for how massive the map was. “The same house but larger and with the same furniture just spread out more” was an apt description

I loved the premise of this video and glad to see Glen back! Animal Well was a similar experience for me too. I'd seen so many vids of people saying it was game of the year for them. It was a solid & well made game but my expectations weren't met due to being so over hyped.
@Trenell838 сағат бұрын
Honestly this was a good take on games and how you felt about. Unfortunately I have nothing to add on that. Great vid guys.
@hindsightdocumentary835110 сағат бұрын
I think one of the things about Animal Well is that if you aren't playing it with a group/community then it doesn't build the camaraderie of solving some of the complex puzzles. So playing by yourself almost detracts from the experience. Haven't actually played it myself yet but that is the impression I get from people hyped up about it. Luigi's Mansion 2 commentary is on point! They reduced Fi's interruptions in LoZ Skyward Sword HD, so they totally could've done the same for Prof E. Gadd. And on random battles in JRPGs: I absolutely LOVE that the Final Fantasy remasters let you turn random battles on/off and boost your EXP. I've been playing FFVI and it is so much more enjoyable than others without those options. Now for my game: Octopath Traveler. I love the art style and the narrative. But I got 30 hours in and just quit. I couldn't do it with the random battles, the insane boss fights and having to grind for levels (they should've had an option for all the characters to gain EXP from battles, not just the active party). Might go back to it eventually but it just drained on me when I'd have to spend hours on a boss fight or grinding before moving the story along.

I totally feel you on Echos of Wisdom. I have to commend Nintendo for the new mechanic, but it’s like a black hole for time. I’m out here spamming my strongest echo, running in circles like a headless chicken until it’s finally sorted. It reminds me of a ‘genius inventor in old movies’, where they press a button, and suddenly gears are turning, pipes are steaming, and 10 minutes later, you get a slice of toast and a cup of coffee. Just let me pop the bread in myself and flick the kettle on. Loved Tears of the Kingdom, but you’re right in the fact it wasn’t as groundbreaking as BoTW. I would say it’s a better game, but retreading a path already worn. The build mechanic was brilliant, but I only generally used the two fan bike 😅

This episode's background music is wonderful, very melancholic. Btw, hearing about the random battles in DQ3 is holding me back from buying the game.

This has to be your best commentary! One game I want to like better, and it is because of how much time it takes, is BOTW. I do like it, but I don’t like how I really need at least an hour to remember what to do, why I’m doing it and then get it done. Maybe when my kids are older I’ll have the time to invest.

I'm so glad for this video. I'm also quite pleased that people are being civil in the comments too. This subject could have easily caused chaos I feel. For me the main two are Hollow Knight and Baldo. With Hollow Knight I think I just waited too long. I had only began playing it towards the end of last year. I think by then I've played other games that were inspired by Hollow Knight who did things better, so by the time I got around to it, it was like going backwards. Not a bad game, I just couldn't get in to it. With Baldo, y'all are the ones who got me excited about it, and again, it's not a bad game, I just think other games did it better.

The negative is interesting guys, and I understand Tears being here. If they had given us a dark fairy that only uprgades the dairy armor, in the depths. More unique monsters in the depths. Scary dark things. More fleshed out sky islands. New sky race. Zonai full civilization in the sky. Unique scary airy monsters in the sky. Beautiful and terrible. I love it. They could have done more.

Controversial but I wish I loved Smash Bros Ultimate more than I do. The game itself is fine it’s the community I find who take it too seriously. Where I can play a game like Mario Kart and enjoy myself and still have fun online I can’t with Smash.

Tears of the Kingdom (I mentioned in the community post) similar to your views on it, but I just felt like I wanted something more linear. Thanks for the video, and the Sliced Bread monologue from Glen 😂

Agree with Tears of the Kingdom. I had a ton of fun with it ... when I did the Sky Islands, the Depths and the new Dungeons. However, when it came to exploring Hyrule, the towns and all that ... I felt like it wasn't worth it. I know this Hyrule already, I explored it in Breath of the Wild. So yeah, I wished Tears of the Kingdom would've played in a different Hyrule. Or only in smaller parts of the world, you know?
