Zarkoff's beating the mind drain was never explained ("even a song by the Beatles, anything I could remember, it armored me girl, they couldn't take it from me"). James Bond opens doors by blasting the controls...gets bored with his rifle, picks up Optimus Prime's Gun 5 years before transformers conceptualized. The Imperial Navy have a fleet of ships but they can't chase down a rocketcycle...come on this Mongo, not LA. The city defense guns (all 6 of them) fire a barrage at the rocketcycle hitting it more at least once, causing no damage. They manage to launch Ajax on 30 seconds notice which is commendable, but unrealistic. On it's return the city defenses can't take down a war rocket with holes in it and on fire. Ming is killed by the nose of the ship in a one in a million chance accident. What's not to like?

I really always loved since I was a kid the lines written by Frank Herbert when Ming the Merciless was speaking to Doctor Zarkoff about how Ming goes from place to place to see if the planet he sends these catastrophes to just imagine it to be a natural occurrence or their own god being angry at them. But if that planet has a scientist who understands and reasons as Zarkoff did then they must be destroyed. And Ming snarls at him "Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror." I don't think a better line has ever been rendered in any Sci fi series without Flash Gordon there would not have been Star Wars or Star Trek.

I beg to differ. Yes, Ming's line is absolutely marvelously written. But for me, the most memorable movie line ever is "According to scientists at NASA, this morning's unprecedented solar eclipse is no cause for alarm". It's from a totally camp 1980 movie called...oh wait.

Flash Gordon, though wasn’t received well but has thankfully managed to become cult and to its rightful status, just because of how excellent and fantastic it is. The look, characters, plot and especially the soundtrack by Queen which is infinitely magnificent. It all just works completely, as it is truly a masterpiece in its own right. I hope it’s looked back on from generations and generations to come. Though, they may make an animated version which would be cool, it’s a massive shame that there was going to be a trilogy of Flash Gordon films but, it didn’t hit the box office to well, so wasn’t possible. Plus, of problems between Sam J Jones and Dino De Laurentiis, though they have gladly made up. It would be good though if they did another live action film about Flash Gordon, but it will be nice see an animated version of it as well.

Hey Minty; Sam Jones actually was in a ton of movies and shows since. He also played flash Gordon in a short lived tv series in 2007. He also played the spirit/Denny Colt in the 1987 tv movie version. He mostly had cameos and currently has two movies in preproduction.

I looked through Wikipedia page history... This was only added to the wiki in October 2019, and then to The Flash Gordon Page Dec 2019. So Minty couldn't have had it at the time this video was made. Peter's page is about to be purged due to lack of content, but he was a "professional voice and dramatic actor" It was likely after this video that it was added to IMDb.
