Multi tool with allen keys, waterproof/dustproof hard case for gear and an extra large 5in1 reflector. That is my must haves because I end up random places away from any shelter or support, so gotta keep gear safe from the environment, keep it solid and working and most of the time cant take lights so need to use a flecky.

Some curveball answers: - Spare T-shirts. Always. Swapping out a sweaty tee for a fresh one midway through the day does more for my energy levels than it should. - Extra pair of shoes. Another DP told me this who got it from an experienced gaffer, but as the day progresses the cushioning in your shoes gets compressed, so swapping out for a fresh pair at lunch can really help you get through those long days when you're up on your feet all the time. - A moving blanket, one of those quilted black ones. It can serve as a quick neg fill, but a few weeks ago I used it to give me some extra height and padding when trying to shoot from the hip, or as protection when I got some shots on a car while resting the camera on the hood. - An extra thermos, filled with coffee. I regularly carpool with a 1st AC to set, so it's always a nice surprise for them to have a fresh coffee in my car waiting for them. And specialty coffee only, of course.

Top 3 most used items on set for me would be 1/4 - 3/8 spigot adapter, the spotlight mount and a knife. The spigot allows me to mount virtually anything with a 1/4 or 3/8 to a grip head. The spotlight mount is used in almost every lighting setup (with or without gobos). Being able to project light, focus, shape and add texture with 1 attachment is always a plus. Lastly, a quality knife-everyone asks to use a knife at some point on a set.

I've been using spigots quite often lately as well! The Spotlight mount is also probably one of my favorite modifiers. Good picks!

I always tend to have with me on set some gaff and painter's tape, a tape measure, a leatherman, some reusable zipties are a must-have for me and sth else that i found very handy are a set of big and small pieces of flat iron...thingys that stick to any surface with some duct tape and magnetize my tube lights there its absolutely amazing.

This might be very basic but smallrig multitool and a rocket blower - so many times I went out without these thinking "well I've tightened everything down and cleaned my sensor so I don't need these" and ended up regretting so much after my top handle started becoming loose or I needed to switch lenses and a tiny dust particle got onto the sensor. Nowadays I have them on me in my waist bag at all times.

i do the extra ssd. i have disclaimers in our invoicing also that clients are to provide ssd drives to store their projects, which we retain. they're paying for hard drive space anyway lol. but i do try to only stick to samsung t7s. i've found them to be the most reliable esp at the price point. i have a ton of crdbags, love them. their warranty is solid too. so i have them in cases and use their molle clip system combined with some amazon tactical bags for our ac kit. which has most of the usual items. i made a lot of stuff with paracord and carabiners, installed some track and recreated their wall system on one of the doors in the van. comes in clutch for hanging items like extension cords etc. we have a mini fogger also, as much as i'd not send people to ulanzi to get that. they had a lot of customer service problems and weren't shipping the fogger, or the juice, and i think tehy've just settled with sorry, you'll have to make your own fog juice. BUT it is a convenient little fogger for tight spaces, and has a cute little remote if you can tolerate their shipping issues. i feel like that mini massage gun tho i never thought about adding that to our kit so i think that's our move.

Love your videos! If you could only get two of the lightbridge reflectors what size and diffusion would you go with?

A Leatherman in a Gerber pouch lives on my belt 24/7, I carry a double ended USB-A/USB-C drive on my keys, there’s always leccy tape in one pocket and business cards in the other. With a name like mine, it’s significantly faster to hand somebody a card than spelling out my email address, if somebody needs to send me something. There’s nothing worse than climbing half way up a truss to manage some lighting cables only to realise you didn’t bring electrical tape, so having at least one roll on you is indispensable. The cart always has at least one roll of gaff on it somewhere, and my cinesaddle always has two Aputure MCs, a head torch, small but quality raincoat and a camera raincoat stuffed in it just in case. Everything else is job dependent, but those few things come with me everywhere, from shooting with a camera, cinesaddle and nothing else in the bush, to a full TVC setup in studio. Awesome video mate!

Man. Totally forgot a good raincoat/rain pants. I've had shoot in torrential downpours that were only tolerable because of my rain gear. Good mention!

The crls are great but have to agree they are outrageous when it comes to price. I think it’s only a matter of time before someone creates a cheaper priced option. For a reflective piece of plastic it really is crazy. Nice video and thanks again

Always enjoy your videos! Also instant coffee from swift is something i never leave home without. They finally have made high quality instant coffee an option (Cat and Cloud has a tea bag style one that is great as well)

Little question about the Hollyland C1. How were you able to connect more than 8 headsets together? Did you have to use two hubs since one only take 8 headsets also? I wasn't able to figure this out since it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me.
@robchado
@robchado Жыл бұрын
Every 8 headsets needs 1 hub. So 16 headsets, 2 hubs.

Good video, bummed i missed ya at nab. The mattheqs arm is super useful. For me on set i dont go without a d tap splitter and at least one emergency mini led light in case we need a pop here and there or to see at the end of the day 😂

So weird, I've used Sandisk Extreme SSD's constantly over the last couple of years, along with the Samsung T5/T7's and they've all been flawless.

great videographers tips. As DP? Leave the color metter to the gaffer, the drive to DIT, the crd bags the the AC Hollyland to the ac or grips, ecoflow to your gaffer too. same for your lightbridge. Save your back and surround yourself with the right people to help you instead of breaking your back. otherwuse you ll end up broken very fast. mentally and phisically But sure keep the massage and the cofee thing 😅

Pleasure knowing what Roberts rocking on the set! Would luv to know in depth how you use light/colorimeter on set (cuz I'm the one who relies mostly on false color 😢) On set I tend to bring extra 5/7" tx monitor set just to quickly show actor what the shot actually looks like
