Retes stack, for those that are curious, because I was when I first heard it mentioned. They’re generally made with 1/4” plywood sheets stacked with 1x2’s. You want to alternate the height on each side so the Ackie can wedge in and feel secure.

If i get an uva+uvb bulb it is ok? I know it is more expensive but i think it would be good. I have dubia and blatta colony for the other reptiles. And for substrate i will put a mix of coconot musk and some tropical dirt to keep humidity up.

I believe a lot of uvb bulbs also produce uva. Dont think thats an issue. Just watch for any stringy substrates!

Looking at the various colors and morphs of ball pythons and bearded dragons, do you think we’ll ever get that point as far as Morphs/variety of colors with Ackie monitors? Keep up the good videos!

Does the enclosure size apply to dwarf ackies too?

I’m watching this 5 months later what enclosure are you using I would like to purchase the same one you are using
@ProfessorHerp3 жыл бұрын
PVC ones? If you want to purchase them, call Animal Plastics and ask for the most recent order from John Aromando. They are the 6x2.5x4' enclosures in that purchase.

Unfortunately I disagree with a lot of points here. Firstly it’s uvb, to explain this reasoning is from studying them first hand in northern Australia. While out there we recorded uv indexes and periods of basking / activity, 90% of the time recorded was at the start of the evenings around 3/4pm with uv indexes readings on average being uvi 3-6 being weak to moderate levels meaning to go by wild standards only a 3-5% uvb is needed and if like my reptiles being show animals that are regularly outside midday in the sun I don’t provide them with uvb. Secondly the enclosure size, by AWC (Animal Welfare Committee) standards a 4x1.5x1.5 is their minimum which has been concluded through dozens of studies. However id probably be happy using a 4x2x2 or a 5x2x2 for their lifetime. Next is their substrate this can be a large debate but every ackie I have fostered, rehomed and had myself have never dug below 8 inches as I provided them with suitable tunnels and hides so having 20 inches is not entirely needed but if it suits you then absolutely acceptable. Lastly is their diet, baby ackies should be fed 3-4 times a week giving them starve days to produce the fat needed as an overload of fat messing with internal metabolics and causes overweight ackies. Adults 2-3 times a week.

Would a deep heat projecter 80wtt get the surface hot enough ? Also would a 36” T5 UVB LED hood be good for a 48” enclosure or is the hood to long for the 4 foot long enclosure?
