My tips for multitasking: 1. Do other things while you shake. 2. Slightly separate the shaking tins to pour the drink into the glass so you don't have to reach for a strainer. Not recommended for martinis. 3. Do something while the credit card machine is taking 2 seconds to process a card. Those 2 seconds can definitely help during a busy night.

My bar has optics so if I get an order for a pint of lager and a vodka coke I can make both at once by reaching behind me while pouring the pint.

1. Multi-tasking. Be fast and able to multi-task. 2. Clean as you work. As well as at the end of the night. 3. Give great service. 4. Know how to make the classics. 5. Know how to pour draft beer. 6. Know how to change a keg. 7. Know how to free pour. In spite of having jiggers. Or, in the absence of. 8. Know how to cut fruit. 9. Have good math skills. Able to add the prices in your head. Side note - adding volume for drink recipes in your head is another. 10. Able to talk down a drunk.

I'm a bartender not professionally but it's my job ... the part you said about people not coming in for food and drinks but the experience, I get it.... however when I go I'm actually going for food and drinks and I absolutely hate it when my server or bartender wants to Chat me up.... I'm convinced they're just trying to get tips and I hate fake shit... if I spot one of those types I'm serving I rejoice because we are going to get along great.

Southern gravy is made as follows for 7-10ppl 1lb Sausage of choice browned in sauce pan Add seasoning of choice and stir Add 1/4” layer of your choice of flour over sausage. Add 2% or whole milk til flour is covered 1/4” Bring to heavy simmer while stirring occasionally Add healthy amount of pepper Once gravy is to your likes consistency reduce heat to low and continue to stir. Corrections: If to thick add little milk 1tbsp at a time If to thin add 1tbs flour at a time until it’s your desired consistency. A tsp of maple syrup per 1lb sausage will remove some of that initial bite and bring a sweet spice to the initial taste of the gravy.

@@DaveAllredTheRealBarman I was just thinkin, that is a bs n gs gravy recipe. I honestly haven’t tried it any other way and idk how it would go with thanksgiving. I can dig through the recipe book to find some of those gravies if you’d like. But this gravy is perfect for butter biscuits

I am a Bar and Restaurant Manager, and Multi tasking is the KEY for sure ! Basically have 10 hands while your working ; and for Gods sake , let customers that just arrived that you will be with them in just a minute ; don't EVER ignore anyone ! This drives me insane ; and i will just send my bartenders home if they don't want to be there ; I'll take over the bar and keep the tips no problem . 😄

That’s illegal here in Ny. No manager is allowed to Take tips.
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman Жыл бұрын
That's true if they are working as a manager, but in many places, the bar manager will either manage or bartend. If he/she is working a bartending shift, they are allowed to keep tips. They just can't take them if they are working as a manager.

Draft beer... a bar that has a dozen or more kegs with multiple types of beers doesn't always have regulators for independent kegs.... Each type of beer needs a different pressure of CO2 or Nitrogen, and if the pressure isn't right then the pour will suck.

Where I am from its illegal to free pour and to answer your question about what would I do if someone stole all the jiggers I would use a shot glass cause every bar or restaurant will have that

I kind of have a feeling this is a guide of how bars in the USA work, not in Europe or anywhere else. (Note, I've been a bartender in Belgium for 3 years).
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman5 жыл бұрын
Yep, you're exactly right Baret. I've only worked in the U.S. and all of my knowledge and teachings come from my experience working in bars, as well as the hundreds of bar owners I've worked with in my business. I have no problem admitting that I am naive when it comes to what bartenders should be doing in Europe.

My friend was a bartender and she called the cops on a fight where there was blood everywhere. She tryed very hard kick then out almoat got punched. She got fired. One was drunk already kicked out and the other wasnt but how is that her fault when he tresspassed and pushed her out the way to get to the guy. What do u do in those situations ??
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman5 жыл бұрын
Hey AC. I don't know the situation at all. I know that there are usually two sides to a story, so either her boss was an asshole, or she did a lot more than she should have and that's why she got fired. However, this is why having security is so important. Calling the cops was the best thing to do at that point, and then simply stay out of the way. It's not worth getting in the middle of a bunch of drunk idiots. That's up to the owner/manager to deal with, not the bartender.
