The best tip I've ever been given is this: "If you're buying an item on sale because it's on sale, you're not saving money. But if you had to buy something anyways and it is on sale, then you did save money" and I try to live by this every day.

I know some people who buy stuff just because it's on sale, not because they need it (and it happens to be on sale). I used to get really angry about it 😂 but they're doing fine still, even after 20 years of doing that. So whatever works for them haha

I actually have a list of everything I "need/want" during the year. I add on the list things that I find myself constantly thinkingof needing/making life a bit easier. I wait for big sales (summer, winter, blackfriday) and then purchase if it is a good discount and still need it. This way you really consider if you need it and save money.

My husband and I are retired now, so we have access to the savings we have grown over the years, altho we try not to spend it. We live on what comes in. Anyway, my son and daughter in law found a house they wanted, but their house had not sold yet. We were able to take the down payment out of our bank, and let them get that house before it sold to someone else. My son agreed to pay the taxes and fees, and they got their house. Now their other house is sold and they paid us back. What a joy to be able to do that for our kids! They are so happy!

This was the first real joy I found when becoming frugal and more minimalistic. My brother needed some money in an emergency and I just happened to have that amount in my pocket to out into savings that day. It feels so good to at a moments notice help out someone who deserves it and know you'll be okay.
@BeRightBack131
@BeRightBack131 2 жыл бұрын
I did that with my son and daughter in law. They got their house... but now they're not paying me back. Instead, my son went out and bought a new truck, an expensive meat smoker (roughly $1,000), and I can't even remember all the stuff they've purchased for themselves, instead of paying me back. Especially frustrating because this past year, I had major medical problems that literally zeroed out the rest of my savings account, and now I'm struggling to make ends meet and very unhappy 🙁.

@@petmomful2260 I did. They said oh, we'll pay you back. We just need to get our finances back together... just before they bought the new truck and had their entire yard landscaped. Forgot about that. That was another $25,000 they spent, all of it right after they said they just needed to get their financial stuff figured out. Sigh. I told him/them when I lent them the money that if you don't pay me back, I'll stop talking to them. Even if they have a baby (my grandchild), I'm done with them. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'm just not that important to their lives.

This is what I've done over the years to save money. 1. Stopped cathcing public transport. I ride my bike to work. 2. Stopped drinking alcohol. 3. Stopped excessively dating just because I could. 4.make my own food. 5. I eat fruits and vegetables, no meat and 99 percent no dairy. 6. I have a car but it's second hand and I use it to go in camping trips in, which costs me like 30 bucks for the whole weekend because it's run on LPG/petrol. 7. Don't buy coffee, it's so expensive and over your lifetime you will spend 20 grand on something you're going to wee out and all that milk is terrible for you! 8. I borrow books from the library. I still buy things when I need them like this year I got a new ipad and a new bike but these are two things I use every single day and bring a lot of joy and efficiency into my life. For the love of God, quit smoking. Love yourself a little bit please and if you can't love yourself just know that everyone thinks you stink. People don't want to be near you, especially in an elevator when you've also had a cigarette! 9. Floss. 10. Get a pet. My dog changed my life. They cost money but he brings so much joy into my life and he forces me to go places I wouldn't and to be more active. I honestly think getting a dog has increased my lifespan because of his happy he makes me even though he cries in the car lol.

You're clever (nr. 9 is difficult), but this guy is a AMAZON MINIMALIST, there is a problem with it: The economy that surrounds you make you feel better, one AMAZON or WALLMART or another lower quality job may save you some pounds, but it brakes the jobs and small business, the salaries goes down, people can't affort to live near by theyr jobs, schools, police and medical care get further, your place is ready for GENTRIFICATION, and any economy you sense to have make, turn you place less attractive to people, real people as you've once found in your neighborhood. If you remember your best way of life and challenge the present, you can be like the AMAZON MINIMALIST: I stoped at his 5th example of AMAZON. And I'm not a fighter of the new way of life, neither the Company. But is it making you life and your friends life better or worst? Is your neigborhood getting more attractive and safe? On clothes. Buy quality over quantity. A couple of well made shirts will last longer than a dozen cheaply made ones. Same with furniture. I bought my bedroom set in the mid 1980's and it was expensive but was sturdy. I still have that same bedroom set in 2020 and it's still in good shape.

Having your coffee and meals at home are the two major expenses that can save you so much $$. I tested this out with my students on a budgeting class I taught and the ones that stuck with it couldn't believe how much they were saving. This included packing either enough food on Sunday night for the week to leave in office frig. or fix lunch each morning while have their coffee/breakfast. It's all a mindset and have some serious self talk along with sitting down with pen & paper and noting left side, rent/mtg. payment utilities; right side miscellaneous expenses needing my attention to NOW.

Great content. In summary: 1. I always use my cell phone until it dies naturally. Last one I had lasted 4.5 years. 2. Why do we still pay for gym when there are tons of fitness videos on KZbin for free? 3. Do a cost effective analysis on outsourcing vs insourcing certain activities. 4. Minimalism helped me combat that. 5. I ONLY need one piece of nutrition advice (from my mom): eat everything in season and fresh, and in moderation. 6. Don't form and date people with those bad habits. 7. I am a little better now but still need to work on it and make learning investment a habit. 8. Always put gift cards next to my credit card so won't forget them. Thanks.

Replace all light bulbs with LED. Use public transport and not my car to get to work. Use side lamps to light my rooms and have everything on a timer Keep curtains closed during the day to help cool the house A/C is on a timer and it come on 30 mins before I get home from work. Keep A/C & Heat to 22 Celsius all year round. But in bulk for groceries Buy food kit for weekly cook at home meals and take one left over for lunch every day so I don’t buy lunch Have healthy breakfast cereals at work, eat breakfast mid morning at work Don’t buy coffee out Cut the ends off shampoos/ conditioners/ tooth paste...... and use every last drop of product- usually you can get almost another weeks worth out of an ‘empty’ tube Always spray new sneakers/ trainers with protector so that they stay like new forever When buying expensive shoes, immediately take them to the cobblers and put heel and toes caps on so not to wear out leather soles Never buy cheap fast fashion made in the developing countries. It never lasts. Always calculate the cost per wear of every article of clothing you buy. Quality made lasts for years. Cost per wear is always cheaper than ‘bargain’ seasonal fast fashion Maintain my own gardens and house (DIY) Clean my own house Wash and iron my clothes ( don’t take to the cleaners those Baffin deals add up over a year) Never waste food. Freeze it, label it, and when you can’t be assed cooking you have a ready meal. Heat and eat! Eat fresh healthy food always. Don’t drink alcohol, because of fitness - I think of every drink in terms of the number minutes exercise each drink is to wear off ( same for fast food takeouts. Cook don’t Uber eats Never buy bottled water, always carry a refillable bottle which is designed to keep your water cold Never text, or phone - always use free services like what’s app/ messenger etc Never use plastic wrap to save food in, use reusable, sealable, airtight containers - always! Buy bulk healthy snacks and divide into small Portions and store in ready to go snack size reusable, sealable, airtight containers. When cooking, always make double and freeze leftovers, store in reusable containers and keep a sharpie handy to label before you put it in the freezer Keep two of everything in the pantry, and as you use one item, immediately add it to yiur grocery list in your phone, then only buy what’s on the list- don’t deviate from your list no matter ‘how much a bargain’ that deal is in the store. It’s not worth it when you get home to find you already have 100 products the same you bought on sale last time( dead money) Never charge to your credit card, and if you have to, then repay the balance in full before you get charged interest Store your credit card frozen in a plastic ice cream container. Emergency use only, and it means you have to defrost before you can use it. Never buy anything that come through your social media feeds. It’s never as good as the pics, it’s always poor quality, and no matter what you tell yourself, you rarely send it back or get your money back. Cut back the number of house hold cleaners, research what your grandmother used and stick to it. Clean your own car - don’t outsource Maintain your teeth and go to the dentist every 6 months - more important the older you get. Your teeth are white enough!! Buy expensive sunblock and wear it. The rest of your skin care buy regular stuff from regular stores, always take care of your skin Don’t bring junk snacks foods into the home. Only buy when you really want them NOW!! Always buy classic styling everything. Gimmicks and fashions date very quickly. Spend on what makes you happy, but if what make you happy is expensive, then save it for a very special reward day.

Daniel Chang very good point. I already have a couple of income streams from residential properties I own, I have an excellent career that I love and it pays very well ( top 5% of income earners) I have a trust that holds all my assets, I have a business within the trust that owns the house where I live, and I pay that business ‘rent’ I have my own personal business that runs out of the house I rent, which I can deduct. I deduct my car & power.i have recently stepped down from two corporate directorships as I want more leisure time. I have a great lifestyle and all those things I do (above) are built in to the point where it’s just a routine and I don’t even notice that I do then. My parents were the same and that’s who taught me. I was raised to save money, make money work for you, to always buy quality and never go without . My lifestyle is good for the planet and my carbon print is as low as I can make it without living a horrible lifestyle.That for me none of what I do is a chore makes it easy. I’m not the kind of person who see this stuff as a bind or a chore. I get up everyday at 4.55 am and I’m in the gym everyday by 5.30 am. I’m motivated and live my best life. Yea. It saves me a time of money and I love that feeling of seeing that money build up. It’s not for everyone, but I’m living my best life and I am happy and I feel financially secure. When I die my entire estate goes to my nephews and nieces because I’m child free( by choice) give it a go, you will be amazed what a difference it makes to getting ahead

You nailed it about the 30% off thing. If you weren’t already planning on buying it, then it’s not 30% off, it’s 70% more than not buying it. That’s such a good way to explain that concept.

Here's a really frugal tip. Instead of bringing extra coins to coin counting machine that charge 10%, go to the self checkout in supermarket and pay in coins. Also, checkout often asks you to round up your purchase to donate to their charity of their choice. I always say no. This benefits the store and not you. Pick charities you'd like to give to on your own and then you can deduct your donation from your taxes.

Great advice. Things I don't spend money on: Store warranties on cheap electronic items that are covered by a manufacturer's warranty , Phones (wait for a deal you can't pass up), Designer clothing, Expensive beers, No expensive bottles of wine, no smoking items, No Cable or DTV, Amazon Prime is included with our free phones( android )which we got at $40 per mo. less than our previous carrier and we do shop Amazon. Nothing spent on newspapers, magazine subscriptions, gym memberships. Choose generic meds when available. Do not buy any music which must be paid for in some form. You can call me cheap as long as it doesn't cost me anything.

The biggest savings a man can make is in renting and not purchasing, female services. Two hour/month after shopping several vendors. And never more than once/month. The average man, age 18-40 (by which time family court has pounded him into the dirt!) spends hundreds of thousands on skirt chasing. Most often, a total waste.

Also I un-followed a lot of influencers and facebook groups , especially in the beauty community. No one needs a new eye shadow palette every week; all the colors end up being the same from one brand to another. Being a retail manager it was difficult to find time to go to the gym. Plus, gyms don't care if you get a good workout, or if they are too crowded, they will still be trying to sell memberships. It was too difficult to get a good workout in the limited time I had when I had to wait for equipment, or try to workout when someone was waiting on me. I saved up and bought my own equipment that was very good quality. It wasn't that expensive and it saved me tons of money and aggravation in the long run. Plus, it's a lot easier to get to the gym when it's just a walk down the hall to the spare room. The other advantage is that I can try different types of workouts without an overly curious person asking me what I'm doing. Mind you, I don't mind giving advice, and I'm not anti-social, but when your on a time crunch, it's kind of inconvenient.

Good video. thanks for sharing. My biggest money saver has anything having to do with food and drink. 1. I make larger meals (food prep if you want to call it that) and save the left overs. I enthusiastically serve leftovers because that's where the money is really at. Picky eaters in my family have to fix their own meal (usually a pbj) if they don't want leftovers. 2. We also have a french press which has a wire mess that filters the coffee (no more throwing away coffee filters or buying expensive k-cups). 3. I organized my pantry by using small plastic bins (from dollar store). So i have all pasta in a bin, soup cans in another bin, tuna and canned oysters in another one, etc. This is so helpful because it's easier to inventory. This goes for the fridge too. 4. Another thing we do, is my husband and I have desert dates and we just treat ourselves to the bakery and coffee once a week. So we eat dinner at home then go out on our inexpensive desert treat instead of paying a $30 ticket for meals. 5. Next is birthday cakes. The bakery department sells them for $20. I just either make from scratch or buy box cake mix for $2 and reuse the candles. You can clean candles with a sponge or paper towel and put in zip bag for another use once they are completely dry. BONUS: Also, DON'T BE EMBARRASSED TO BE CHEAP. By that I mean, don't worry about what people think about your frugal habits because it's your money and therefore your business. Be confident that these habits, intentionally done, will start showing up as more money in your bank account. One last DON'T. DON'T EVER get a kick out of "blowing" money. That short-lived power is our silly side wanting to take over and ruin our life. Don't listen to that thought because you'll end up broke. All the best.

I found out that I do most of these things unconciously. I have always been all about saving for experiences which makes it easier to buy less. So this is bascially my method with your bullet points. 1. A new smartphone or gadget- I held on to my samsung until the screen was basically scarthing off my skin, that is when I bought a new one. 2. Membership (gym, cable, streaming service) - I enjoy homeworkouts because it doesn't allow room for excuse not to work out. I like listening to podcasts and music, so we have a shared spotify. The best thing ever, 3 people on 1 spotify makes it worth it. If I want to watch a movie, I borrow other peoples netflix, but I rarely watch series/movies anymore. 3. One purpose machine which u hardly use - I have always thought of these machines as a way of inviting more clutter to your home. 4. Clothing for collection- I used to have a wish list a vision board of what style I am aiming for and have spent almost 5 years building my closet to have minimal cost. Before buying any clothing, I spend one month thinking about it if I really need it. I buy most of my clothes at thrift stores and thrift sites. 5. Health products and unnecessary supplements - unless your doctor says so, then it is pointless and potentially harmful. 6. Bad habits: cigarettes, alcohol, expensive coffee - I drink alcohol from time to time but never exceed more than 20 dollars. 7. Financial advisor. Read books instead - Going to the library is the best thing ever and those books narrow down the info compared to google. 8. Gift cards- Unless I get a gift card for travelling, a hotel or spa, then no thanks. lol

Hi Gabe! Thanks for your video. I save money by reusing paper towels. I reuse them to wipe down the kitchen sink after I’ve used it to wipe my hands or my mouth. And I try to rotate food in the fridge like eat what needs to be eaten before it goes bad. As for clothing, I wear my daughters clothes because it’s such a waste of money. She doesn’t like it. Also I buy clothes from discount places.

My idea on saving money on clothing is when I have been eyeing stuff for a while, I need a new winter jacket cause mine is to small or big or ruined, then finally I see one ON SALE exactly like i've been wanting .. that's saving money cause you were actually going to buy it not just buying cause you want it or saw it on sale but have one anyway

Check out thrift stores and garage sales for items like bread makers and instant pots. Does your local YMCA have exercise equipment? Cheaper than a gym membership! See what all local universities and community colleges have to offer for free or low fee usage. Rent equipment you use infrequently, such as carpet cleaners, chainsaws, etc.

I have a gym membership which is on the upper price class but as I got there 5-7 times a week and spend 2-5 hours there (it has a sauna and spa area) - it´s near my home and as I am in the gym I use my own shower around 0-2 times per week. I downsized my wardrobe and buy basics like shirts and high quality hoodies second hand on a app that is quite popular in Germany. I prepare my plantbased meals at home, buying basics foods, making my own juice, I don’t drink alcohol and make my own ice tea to avoid softdrinks. Also doing my best to reduce my waste. Use my bike as often as possible instead of my car. I stopped impulse purchases. Thanks for your contect, it’s the first time I saw a video from you and I will subscribe and share

I live in the city of Chicago. I like to take a PTO day during the week and go to thrift stores in more affluent neighborhoods. I'll buy a few shirts that cost between $1- $3 each, and bring them to my tailor. The end result is perfectly fitted shirts that cost around $12- $15 each.

1. As a mobile phone exec for nearly 22 years, I agree. I have retired for 3 years and my next phone will be under $200. Even the camera on a $200 smartphone is amazingly good. 2. I go to planet fitness and pay $10/month and go 3 times a week so money well spent. 3. i agree, I rid of my bread maker (I make bread but I don't need the tool), blenders and food processors. I never use them 4. I actually use protein shakes as meal replacements and I've lost 25 pounds on it. I eat one meal a day, unlimited fruits and 2 shakes. The shakes are actually cheaper than a meal and fairly low calorie. 5. I agree on the cigarettes (I used to smoke). It is harmful and expensive, but that was my choice. I definitely still drink but I do it fairly rarely and often pregame with friends at home. Binge drinking is not my thing (more than 4 drinks). 6. I do my own investing but I do a whole portfolio on several vanguard etf's. I did buy things I knew would go up, like apple, Amazon and tesla stock tho. 7. I never buy gift cards unless they are presents. 8. I have given away most of my closet, and anything I buy now, I have to throw away an equivalent item.

My number one tip is second hand everything. There are so many clothes and furniture that people want to get rid of for very cheap or even for free. Me and my boyfriend's furniture cost us less than 20€ total just because we got everything second hand.

Great video. 4 small things. 1. Get a switch to effectively unplug the TV. It's still on waiting for the remote signal. 2. Unplug all those chargers when not in use. 3. Turn off the water heater at the panel in the morning. Turn it back on at night. 4 If you use outside lights get LED bulbs that are light sensitive.

I literally just did this and it's eye opening just to see how much I spent on random stuff, and I consider myself a minimalist. Getting coffee while I'm out, going to restaurants and subscriptions I never use. Those were the 3 big things. Now I try to make coffee at home and only buy it out once or twice a month. I canceled multiple subscriptions I never even use anymore and my family has gotten really into cooking so we only buy food out a few times a month at most. I highly suggest everyone looks at their bank statements for the past year and see what's eating up your money. It could definitely help make some changes you didn't know you had to make.

I agree with gym memberships. They are worthwhile if you actually use them. I work out 6 days a week and shower at the gym instead of home. My hot water tank only gets put on once a week saving me a huge amount in energy bills. I just boil a kettle to hand wash my dishes at home.

From childhood am a minimalist. I feel sad when money goes out of wallet or bank. And it is not that I was motivated by any book or video, but it is just the way I am. I try to do with few things I have. It is not like I don't buy anything, but I am very careful with my money as I don't like slipping out

I’m retiring this year at 35 and the best advice is Buy a house young and rent the rooms out. Even if you half to get with your sibling/friend. NEVER buy a car on high finance. Buy second hand clothes that have only been used once or great quality. Just get a few pairs of shoes and 2 jackets etc. Buy 1 oz silver all your life every month. Put £100 in s&p500 all your life for 30 years. Don’t use credit card and don’t go out clubbing and spending on alcohol. Don’t pay for coffee, bring your own. Don’t be embarrassed to use coupons and use Quidco/ top cash back or equivalent. Men - don’t get into marriage/relationship until you’re in your 30s. Understand compound interest and buy property as rental
