Back in the days my nokia once was put in a drawer and forgotten for some years. Nostalgia. One day, 'bout five years later, opened the drawer - meanwhile more old or damaged phones in it, that nokia was the only one which still got the power. Unforgotten forever. Not good for anti-communication, though. So choose the phone wisely.

As a Dane, I agree janteloven is great! I think a lot of people outside Scandinavia assume it's condescending since "don't think you're special" can sound quite rude, but in my experience it actually has the opposite effect. It helps Scandinavian culture be more lighthearted, and less judgmental/competitive. I can't see how one wouldn't love that!

I love this concept myself. In Finland, a gal was visiting Helsinki and having lunch at an outdoor cafe. We all own Boston Terriers and she noticed the suit-wearing businessman had a Boston at his feet as he ate lunch and spoke to his colleagues. She leaned over to politely tell the man how beautiful his dog was and he thanked her. Only then did her friend (a Finnish citizen) tell her that the man was the President and the dog was Lennu. She was shocked that nobody treated him differently and that he could walk down streets like anyone else! It is refreshing!

As someone from the Netherlands I completely understand. We have a similar ‘rule’ of ‘doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg’ which literally translated means ‘just act normal, you are already acting crazy enough’. Don’t brag, show off or stand out. People who don’t act normal might be judged, but overal it creates a more relaxed, non-competitive society.

My Boyfriend is Norwegian and he is split on Jante. First its good that you shouldnt think your better than the Person next to you but for my Boyfriend growing up it was not nice cause my boyfriend had dreams and was different (how he views life etc) but people around him told him dont think your better and put him down for it
@fam3at7622 жыл бұрын
@@lde2040 Yeah I fullt understand that! I'm autistic do some people have gave the same attitude for me. I don't necessarily think it's directly because of janteloven, since it's prevalent in the rest of the world too, though :/

I've been wanting to visit Sweden recently and this actually makes me want to visit more. Most of the negatives about Sweden I'm already used to. Living in Manitoba, I'm not a fan of -30 and being on the lookout for stabby people lol. Our government also has a monopoly on alcohol like Sweden but we also smoke and grow a lot of legal weed.

I do like "the law of Jante". becuse im a swede/scandinavian and know how interpret it! Its more like.. dont brag/you dont need show of.. all your friend know if you did make it! And everyone know that one is not that much happier becuse one can by more expensive things! Its still this, your friends know that you made it.. and then lose your friends that didnt made it.. and move to another area and try to get new friends there! Other that altso "made it".. who have the fancyest cars and house and a membership at the golf club! Its okey.. but wattabout.. be with your friends, take a beer or two at the local pub.. or take a "Fika" at a local cafee with neigbours!

There are 10 skyscrapers in sweden with The 100 meter rule, pretty Much all of then built The last 20 years. And there is about 35 with The 20 floor rule. So yes, quite few, but there is a reson for it. Very long shadows

Honestly, I watch videos like this and think I must be a Swede born in the wrong country (UK). Janteloven, general "I'm doing my own thing and will be respectful to others", keeping away from strangers, etc etc. - we just don't have this in the UK. I want out :(

As a Swede, I can sadly report in Stockholm there's a growing culture of more American business man attitudes, like they're infallible and oh so clever and braggy, and yes, even hummers on the streets and more sport cars. It is a clear violation of the Jante law, and I believe they are completely oblivious of it and/or it is antithetical to their image.
