I travelled Central America some 20 years ago and also had a stopover in Guatemala City to take a plane to Honduras the next day. When I tried to leave the Hotel in Guatemala City in the evening to grab some food, the hotel manager asked me not to leave the hotel because it was too dangerous and that the hotel kitchen could fix me something if I was hungry. I followed the advice and I think it was a good idea.

As a Guatemalan, honestly I think he might have exaggerated. True it’s not as close as safe as Germany but you can have dinner in a lot of nice places and you will be fine. I go out every week and 😅 never had a negative experience in my 30 years living here. Again it depends on where you go but not going outside cause you are scared it’s crazy 🥲sorry you had this impression of Guatemala City.

I went to a Starkbierfest in a small town and it was SO great! No drunk tourists, competitions for men and women, and of course, great music!

I am usually lazy when it comes to breakfasts. Sometimes, a cup of coffee is sufficient. Sometimes, a ready-made bread roll from the local bakery with salmon or camembert cheese is fine. Easy peasy quick and dirty is pre made waffles freshly toasted with sour cream and raspberry jelly. In a hotel, I usually enjoy a full featured American breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, bread rolls, pancakes with Nutella or Canadian marple syrup. But that's rare and more like brunch.

As a Guatemalan doctor living in Philly w my German bf from Griesheim, you two have been a great find .. I often times wonder if I’ll end up in Germany but having been there 4 times already .. and seeing how complex it can be it’s sort of scary and hearing all of your experiences is of great help .. though I’m still not sure if would fit in Germany .. I’m getting spoiled with American comfort and simplicity when it comes to dealing w work , banking , services , how easy it is to do things online here plus a better salary (that’s the toughest part because I’m sure my quality of life would be better in Germany but at the expense of $$ and it’s hard to let it go )!

I always look forward to your new videos and often review them. It has been really nice to see the development in your lives. Jen becomes evermore fond of her life in Germany. She´s at the point of being more German than "die Deutschen" Soon we´ll see her singing "Deutschland über alles" It's so good to see that the things we've been struggling for (and somewhat gained) like security and equality in all parts of life are being valued. Although I´m Danish and being a frequent visitor to Germany both Jen's and Yvonne's points of view make me understand my own culture better. Thanks a lot.

In the best of my hopes I presume that Jen will NEVER sing "D.ü.a."!! You are right that she is evolving to being evermore fond of the country where she lives and has found all aspects of happiness! However, what you're saying would only result in her singing "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" though! Please do never confuse these two. If somebody said that to me, I'd be offended, while you mean to flatter! ;)

I love seeing a "western" becoming aware of how life really is in third world countries. I am from Brazil and the point made here about security really hits home for me as well. As a very shallow example, as soon as you start making some money here which is already very difficult because of many socioeconomic factors, well from that moment on you should consider living in a gated community because it is borderline crazy to think I will take my to the streets from my street house's garage. Everyone here will say you are crazy and you are "asking to get robbed" for doing that. That is something first world people cannot fathom in my experience. And this of course contributes to more and more income inequality because even mild economic success brings out the "i am rich" mentality, which is very detrimental to society here in general.

In third world countries you will see bubble societies because, mentalities are different in every social class unlike Germany all people are having almost same mentalities, for example; in the third world countries higher social classes can be a bit acceptable for gays and lesbians more than lower classes which can be dangerous on gays and lesbians, also women in higher classes has more freedom than lower classes. Always be careful when trying to make out North European's social status! Think of them as rock stars: they might look like crab, and wear awful clothes, but are worth millions. In most of the world people's cars are pretty safe parameter for their wealth. Being Danish, I tell you: Never judge a Dane's social status on their car! Their couch (sofa) could very well have cost several times what their car did. I've got a pair of friends who's paid more for their 12 designer mugs (for daily use, mind you), than they did for the wreck of a car they drive in 🤣 Thank you for teaching me about my nice neighbour.
