I usually read comments. There is so much wisdom in the community that it adds to your very good content. Some trends are a huge mistake. I have seen a lot of ads for cropped trousers this year and they don't look good even on great models. Notice how cold-shoulder tops came in and went out so fast. I look around my community and see no-one wearing them. We know better.

I don’t know if you are in the USA. Cold shoulder tops stayed around for ages where I live in the uk, and not being happy with my arms I liked them. Definitely out now though. I do see the odd person wearing them still, but I certainly wouldn’t now.

Thank you soo much for leashing out against polyester and helping the environment. Everybody can afford natural fiber : buy less, but class. Another option are "preloved" items. So no excuse for suffocating the planet with harmful fabrics. Influencers like you can contribute to create awareness in their follower-communities and should make an impact. You distinguish yourself from all those "Amazon-amazones" who market cheap synthetics for not so low prices. Kudos!

I like the 'filling the box' idea. At the moment I am trying the 'one in two out' method. This is helping me declutter, but also making me pause before buying something new, as it makes me think about whether it is 'worth' 2 things already in my wardrobe.

The best thing you said is that you quit caring what others think!!! You said a lot of good things, but I like that one the best. I used to wear 4 inch heels everyday and it made me feel taller. Im really comfortable with flats now - love a good ballet flat, or Mary Jane. I still love my skinny jeans. Not at all interested in those wide legged catastrophes. I get it - the fashion industry needs to tell you to buy new styles so they can make some money every season. But I will keep wearing what makes me feel good.

I'm the only one here and I have a nice-sized (not huge, but decent) "master bedroom" closet, originally meant for two people, I suppose. I have tried putting clothes away for a while and then getting them back out, but really what works best for me is to have ALL of my clothes out, ALL the time. Even the cashmere sweaters and cashmere wraps and the camel hair long coat and the winter boots: they all stay out within view even when it's 114 degrees outside. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and you know, some summer days get cold here, and some winter days get warm, and they keep the office where I work right at 70 degrees, so I always need some sort of a blazer. This works best for me. And here in the PNW, a coffee cup is almost always in my hand when I'm walking, even if I'm just walking across the office to the kitchen to put another K-cup in the machine! I'm 67, by the way, and still have a full-time job working at a community college. I love it! I get compliments all the time on my wardrobe, which I keep up-to-date by watching KZbin channels like yours. There is an actual mall in the town where I work. I moved here in 2014 and I think I've been to the mall exactly once since then. I prefer shopping at the thrift store; I get a better selection and I get to pick something that I can see how it looks after it's been washed once or twice. If I need other stuff, I shop online. I was an autumn in the '80s too...as I've aged and I've let the grays come through, my colors are very much changing. I had honey-brown hair and still have the olive-hazel-green eyes and LOVE olives and warm browns...I'm transitioning out of the strong shades now and into softer shades. I did cringe a little when you said "at our age," talking about the trends...I say, if I want to wear it and it's a trend, I'm doing it. Most likely I don't. "At my age" means I get to do whatever the hell I want. I don't care what other people say about what to do or say or think or wear. If I want to do it, I do it. (I probably won't wear belly-showing clothes either, because I wouldn't want to do that.) I like knowing what the trends are; I can pick and choose what I want to embrace and what I want to ignore. I'd never heard of "business casual" or "capsule wardrobes" in the '70s and '80s, and I really like them now, because I'm learning from the KZbinrs like you and others. I plan to still be healthy, relevant and working full-time in my 70s.

It is a very good, very practical idea. I have just been going through my winter stuff (as Australia is now in spring, we have just finished winter), I have lost 20kg (over the last almost 2 yrs) and I have taken some of my smaller trousers in, bought new stuff, and got rid of stuff that was just too big. Now its spring/summer wardrobe to work on.

The shirt is lovely, and looks so much better with your skin/hair tones against the back wall. In my late 20's early 30's, I lived in the UK and worked at an estate agents. Lots of power dressing! I am now 62 and live in BC, Canada in a very remote location with a very outdoors, pioneer lifestyle. I get to 'town' maybe 3 times a year, so little time to wear anything other than work jeans, shirts and sweaters. I ask questions when I'm looking at clothes....do I love it? How often will I wear it? Be ruthless with your choices ladies, and wear what you are comfortable in, but also don't be afraid to look outside the box.

I do definitely read the comments. I wonder if others have the same wardrobe issue I have. I have lost about 80 pounds over the last 2 years. I have removed the clothing that no longer fits from my closet, but I’m afraid to take them out of the house. I’m afraid I will gain the weight back and then have nothing to wear! It’s not an irrational fear…I have changed size several times in my 68 years!

I'm your twin!! I had serious health issues, was in bed all the time, couldn't go to gym or swim, comfort ate and stacked on weight. I decided to accept my fate, bought big clothes and got rid of just about all my clothes. Now 3 yrs later, I found a specialist who has been able to help a bit, I've got my determination back, have started an exercise class run by a physio, back to swimming and over the last 2yrs, lost 20 kg, I have taken in some of the 'mid sized' garments, taken out the really big stuff (I am never letting myself get that bad again!) And have bought a lot of new clothes to cheer myself up and encourage and reward myself for all the hardwork I have put in. 🏆💪👍 keep going, get rid of the big stuff, take in what can be cheaply altered and buy some nice new gear ❤❤❤ oh..I'm 64.😊

As someone who is 5 foot even, it always astonishes me to hear about women who are not happy with being tall. Models are all tall. Height is considered beautiful. You can buy clothes off the rack without tailoring. You have a wide range of styles to choose from. You can gain a few pounds and no one notices. You don’t need to wear heels to look good. You don’t get called names like pygmy and midget, and being asked “why are you so short?” You’re not ignored because sometimes people literally don’t see you. In business you have automatic authority and presence.
@justinebarton2931
@justinebarton2931 Күн бұрын
I'm happy being tall but buying clothes off the rack isn't as simple as that. Often trousers aren't long enough and you can't add a piece of fabric on so tailoring isn't even an option. Likewise sleeves are often too short. I lost weight and went down from a Uk 16-18 to an 8-10. (Now back at a 12) Suddenly all the sleeves on everything were too short and a lot of tops were too short as they shrink everything in all dimensions! And don't get me started on trying to find shoes in big sizes - it's the bane of my life.

Yes, i donated my high heels, and lots of clothes. They weren't being worn and were taking up space . Have actually been thinking of setting up a rail the way you do in your videos with clothes i will wear this season. It will make choices so easy. It's interesting about colour. As my hair has gone grey, and my skin has gotten paler, my colour choices have definitely changed. You are right. It only matters what we like to wear and what suits us, not trends (love leopard print though). Thank you for your words of encouragement.

I sew a majority of my wardrobe and have to remind myself frequently not haste (which is a constant problem as I'm anxious to see the final project ) but quality which I do know how to achieve. I presently have no access to quality clothing but I do shop thrift and luck out with quality or I remake the item to improve the item. Trends are not for me so thanks again for your heads up. Have sold some designer pieces just not my style anymore but gifted some to my daughter and some of her friends , a younger sister in law and lots to charity. It’s so liberating. Your videos have definitely helped me define and pinpoint my personal style. I realized this after a doctor’s appointment: he told me that red suited me beautifully (I had a red plaid shirt on). All through my life people have commented that red was “my color.” The hitch is that while I truly do look great in red, I feel awful wearing it (except for shoes). The same with brown. It looks great on me, yet I feel uncomfortable wearing it. But, I own and wear tons of frosty beiges and tans. Purple is another one - I like purple but I don’t feel good wearing it. Stripes and simple plaids are the only patterns I own. All this lifetime subconscious practice just came to my own notice about myself and my style after thinking about the various subjects of your videos over the past year or so. Finally recognizing this about myself has greatly eased my choices in wardrobing and shopping. I guess I had a style but never consciously knew it! Choosing things to wear and buy was a roulette game, of sorts. Now, thanks to your work, my style life is a breeze.

I read the comments, and make them too. I like to have my ‘6 months’ wardrobe out all the time, so I can anticipate wearing my favorites and consider new combinations. I like florals including florals. Never had my colors done but I know when a color looks ‘off’ on me (peachy pink is great, blue-toned pinks look awful). More important to me is contrast. I’m low contrast, for sure.

I love your crop top comment 😂❤. I also read the comments below for great ideas. I have a couple of good quality modern classic brands that dress up or down depending on my jewellery &/or shoes. Plus the beautiful SA knows me well - she also gives me ideas on how to make what I wear more edgy & challenges me with different options. I love her advice.

I do read comments as I’m always interested in other peoples’ thoughts on a video. Re the colour etc, one of the crucial things, I find for a petite, is getting a reasonable fit, especially on the shoulders. This makes a huge difference to me not looking like I’m wearing someone else’s clothes. Trends aren’t entirely unimportant as they can make dressing fun, but mostly it’s marketing and as you say, my friends don’t follow trends.

I need to have a clear out, I have to watch videos like yours for the motivation. I retired 6 years ago and am still hanging things up in my wardrobe with each seasons change over that I haven't worn for 6 years! Also evening/party wear, none of my 60 something friends have parties anymore & there are no work do's to go to! I need to get rid of all these clothes. I like the box idea, if I put clothes in a carrier bag for the charity shop I nearly always take it out & put it back in wardrobe!

I went to a 60th birthday party at a hotel on Saturday. Ir was fun to get out and drink, dance and be merry. Also I joined a local fb group of women in my county who arrange things like paint n sip or lunches. I also joined other groups that have fund raising socials. I went along on my own and soon met people as a lot come along alone.

Really good advise, I do still buy some stuff from Primark though, in summer I got some 100% cotton oversized shirts, I wore them lots and they washed really well, also got a 100%cotton striped shirt in their sale , I’ll be wearing them for years to come I’m sure. I have gone over to wool, cashmere and linen for my more considered purchases though 😊

LOL I've been done with polyester since the early 70s. My mother loved putting me in Quiana and it was DISGUSTING. I stopped wearing black because it doesn't look good on me now. I'm the same, midrise is the best. Us short waisted folk don't carry highrise. Right up under my boobs. Not the look I want lol. I also buy what I like when its 'on trend' and use it for ages.

I always hated polyester! Yuk! Even when I was a kid I told my mom it had to be all cotton. Love corduroy. Rarely wear florals unless it is a watercolor type print. Yes to bootcut or flare. Why would anyone wear tapered pants? They’re not flattering on anyone. I can relate to so much in your video. I never followed trends. Never cared. I like the idea of changing up the wardrobe every month. I think I will try it.

I think I will go to a two month swap I like the idea of it. I’ve pretty much given up on polyester fabrics. I like at 10-11” rise. I quit capris! They make me look older than I am. Nobody needs that! A cropped pant, shorts, skorts, skirts, or dresses work really well in their place.

Since I stopped colouring my hair and trying, in vain, to replicate my natural dark chestnut hair and let my silver hair shine, I find I wear more whites, blacks, and more blues or reds. As long as they’re ‘clear’ such as a raspberry red or a periwinkle blue but not muted colours. I put it on, look at myself and think, hmmm, that’s not so bad, is it? Pretty good, actually. lol - that’s my version of colour analysis. As for trends, I say trend shmend. 🤷‍♀️

I just discovered your channel and became a subscriber. I am a totally different body type from you but love your style and thoughts about how to dress. I am 5’9”, 185ish (lost 25 lbs; 2” in height and good part of my butt but still full chested….go figure). Prefer the classic look which I felt looked good on me. Now makes me look dumpy. Looking forward to getting idea from this community. Ohhh forgot to say I am 73 years younger and in fairly good shape.

I use trends to stock up on colors that suit me but disappear for periods of time from stores. For a while rich vibrant colors yielded to cool tones which make me look lke a corpse. Some years its a no buy season like the whole oversized baggy look in god awful cool toned life draining neutrals. I have saved $$ though, which I will spend on items that suit me.

I don’t know one single friend who knows what’s going on in the fashion world - however, I’ve always had a passion for clothes, don’t follow trends necessarily - some of them are quite frankly hideous, like long, denim, straight skirts - don’t flatter anyone - but I’ve always had my own style and keep an eye on trends - I do it for myself - no one else 😊

I don't think you are deep, unless you had naturally dark hair and dyed it when you were younger. I saw your clip and you switched from autumn to summer, which I think is correct. Warm Autumns aren't usually too deep, from what I've seen on several colour analysis clips. However, the golden rule, wear whatever you like 😊😊

I have a beautiful cold shoulder dress that I intend to wear this season. It’s pretty and I feel pretty in it. I have to laugh about trends. We think they are so great when they are accepted but the minute they are out of style (fashion industry dictates $$) we throw them out and buy ($) what is ln style. Sorry. Not me. I’m going with what makes me feel good. By the way, people are always complementing me on my style, old or new.

I 'started' shopping at Primark in October, 2024...at least giving it a go, as my go to M&S are now shit quality..looks good mind you for maybe a few days, if you get lucky, but then the dreaded bobbles (or bullies ... I'm Scottish.) it's impossible to find a pure cotton jumper or cardi in markies, although pop upstairs and you may get lucky in the men's bit.
