I was trying to just stop buying things I don't need, but I've had a setback. We also had our power go out for 36 hours earlier this week, and an impromptu get together to celebrate my cousin getting married. This resulted in a lot of extra spending, and I'm like "well, budget's blown anyway, why not get this and this too". I need to stop it! It's hard ☹️

A dog can be soooooo expensive. I’m pleased and applaud you for making the responsible decision to hold off until you are financially set. Pet emergencies and special meds for unforeseen diets have cost us THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dollars for our 16 yr old girl. One day vet hospital stay was $1500. It all adds up.

You are so right. I got a Yorkie 8 years ago. The first year was crazy, meaning I spent 1000s to keep her alive, visiting all available veterinarians to get to know what was wrong. We first thought she had a shunt, but it was much worse than this, she got micro vascular dysplasia, which is inoperable. No insurance will take her. I was told, she would live only one or two years, so I decided to make the very best of it and make her short life a splendid one. I did not listen to the vets, telling me, she must live a diet without any meat. I gave her everything, and I mean everything! she wanted. Her preferred food was and is what I eat. She likes every kind of vegetables, chicken, fish, but really she eats everything except bananas. She got stronger and stronger and has gained weight from 900 grams and being malnourished to 2 kilograms. She does not need any medication anymore, blood tests are always good and I love her with all my heart like a child, and won’t let her go down. Without spending all that money she surely would be dead by now. The last years were the cheapest. Just the regular shots. I can’t give her any dewormer, so I just get tests two times a year. She is the most loving and obedient dog I ever had. I really think, one day she will speak to me 😂😂😂. Her breeder wanted to take her back and change her to a new dog. She would have been put down, to free the breeder from the costs she would have been facing, if I took a lawyer. Needless to say I declined and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I would never ever give her up. So it’s right to save before getting a dog, and getting a health insurance if possible.

hi there. I'm you big enthusiast, being Polish and living in UK. I love your channel, Saving money tips in particular. I don't have too much debt but trying to save up for house deposit. I already stopped buying clothes as after early spring binge clothing shopping I found out I have plenty clothes to wear I just need to get out of my comfort zone(I'm overweight and my weight fluctuate a lot)and make the most of those I have. Also my 6 years old son is asking for a dog- but I explained him that its expensive and we don't have space for it now. Im trying to be mindful with every purchase but I love to splurge here and there- after all, I'm working hard for it, so why not. My clothes are very basic, my skincare is basic, my makeup is very streamlined and I'm very proud of what I achieved over last few years on my journey to be more minimalist. I tried not to dye my hair, but I'm just not ready for this yet, and its totally fine-there will be time when I wont mind my ashy hair with greys in it. And when I feel lost and depressed and want to buy something, I think twice and watch your videos...keep posting videos Christina, many of us need them to keep on track. with love xxxx

Platinum blonde maintenance is just crazy expensive- it’s one of the biggest “wedding” expenses I had that for my wedding that should have been in 2020 but Covid cancelled it and it’s not until 2022 now… I’m now stuck with do I just move back to my natural colour knowing I won’t get it back to platinum for the wedding but knowing I will save a ton of is that just a waste of the last three years work…
@magicalspacegiraffe3 жыл бұрын
I'd say stick it out till the wedding. Once you go back to brunette, there's no way to make it platinum again. So you won't be able to go blonde for years. And it's best to not expect a cool toned or neutral brunette. But you could stretch out the time between hairdresser visits, which should cut down total costs. There are special colour touch up sprays that are great at blending the line, some people find baby powder works both as dry shampoo and hides roots a bit. I find that if there's a lot of volume at roots, the new growth doesn't look bad, so texture/volume powders are good option too. And when all else fails - scarfs and hats it is!

I'm an animal lover & hoping to become a veterinary nurse... but I can't tell you how often I tell people that the most responsible way to be an animal lover sometimes is to NOT get that dog 😂 If they have skin / dietary / general health issues it gets sooo expensive. Not to mention cute "easy" looking pets like rabbits who you can't let roam free in your rental apartment cause they'll eat the tables & walls. If a large vet bill cripples you, you can't really afford that pet. All in good time, I'll have a little dog pack one day 😊

I'm in a similar boat with having pets. I had a cat up until 6 years ago and didn't really notice the extra costs of owning a pet until she developed lung cancer and I started paying for chemo. I really miss having animals around the house but I'm currently not in the financial position to afford those kinds of vet bills so it's best to wait until my debt journey is complete before adopting another dependent.

About to finish my MSc in plant agriculture here, and yes I prioritize organic and local produce but it is an absolute privilege. Our food in Ontario, is so expensive bc we dont prioritize plant ag here nor do we subsidize farmers the way americans and europeans do. so we import everything when we shouldn't have to, especially since we have such a diverse soil profile ( tell me where else in the world you can grow grapes, peaches, winter wheat & beans!) its frustrating, especially since excessive pesticide use is so harmful to our health and environmental health. Don't feel bad about it, its more of a voting issue rather than a "vote with ur $" thing imho.

I hear you on the whole ordeal of getting manicures or pedicures! I use my hands a lot at my job, and so even if I were to get something like a gel manicure, it just wouldn't feel comfortable. I’m just like you with manicures! A nail biter who picks my cuticles…I used to get manicures to stop myself, but at best manicures offer temporary protection and ultimately the constant on and off of nail polish or shellac ruined my nails. What I DO invest in now is actual nail maintenance. I use an amazing nail/cuticle oil and moisturizer nightly. So now my nails aren’t long or sexy, but they’re healthy!

I love glancing down at my hands and seeing pretty nails. Even if I ate food I shouldn't, skipped a workout or dented my credit card, I can still feel good when I look at nice nails. So, I bought my own gel lamp and a few colours of polish I like (Colour-changing!) and do my own manicures. It took a few tries to get it right, but now they look good enough that someone asked me where I got them done the other day. I keep it all organized in a nice little bin so I don't go buy more colours or art. If the bin is full, I don't get anything else. I also put it in my budget so I can replace the colours I use up without denting my credit card. And, every time I use the lamp I get nice nails but save the cost of a professional manicure that I really wanted.

We would do it all over again if that means he'd still be with us but i wouldn't lie by saying it was not financially heavy for us. On top of it, he was diagnosed right after we just bought a house. I hope you'll get wherever you feel comfortable to get one though. Their love is like nothing else on the world.

This obviously varies a lot depending on where you live, but my city has a lot of dogs in shelters. We were lucky enough to get an adult dog who’s always been incredibly well-behaved and we never had her trained (which even surprised the vet). We already knew sort of what her personality was like before we adopted her, plus we only had to cover vaccine fees. She’s a mutt, but she’s adorable and the light of my life. When you’re ready for it, I highly recommend looking into rescues!

I no longer impulse buy scented candles, beauty soaps and lotions from Bath & Body works, and seasonal decorative trinkets from Home Goods. My last two trips to Home Goods resulted in me walking out after putting down a candle and superfluous kitchen gadgets. I love kitchen gadgets. My inner dialogue said you don’t need it. I stopped visiting craft stores. I quit buying yarn, fabric, fantasy project supplies and limited my sewing purchases to a narrow focused purchase of needs, and not that cool new sewing gadget. I have to confess I splurged and bought myself a set of sewing clothing clips that work better than pins. I digress. They are so handy, make sewing so much easier, and keep pins off the floor. I keep working on it. A little progress each day leads to self improvement.

"You do you", people shouldn't be "disagreeing" with your life choice, you aren't telling them to do the same. This is definitely a legit concern: organic is a financial pitfall for me as much as clothes has been for you. What we started during covid is buying from the grocery supplier in bulk. If you're still hanging onto organic like me, I would suggest to try to never let anything expire in your fridge, and definitely cut out restaurants if you haven't already: they usually aren't organic so it isn't helping you. Lastly, we bulk from the bulk grocery supply, so we get a lot of staples (tomato sauce, olive oil, flour, beans, oats) for $1/lb, and then don't buy it again for like a year.

If you want a dog, get a little dog. It’s really not that bad. I have a 7 lb toy poodle. I groom my dog, only buy dog food once a month. Poops are incredibly small making it easy lol. I have my mom watch my dog if I’m out of town which is perfect because she has little dogs too and they all get along. Because he’s so small and socially trained he can go everywhere. I’ve taken him on road trips, boating, grocery store, holiday parties etc. All medical expenses are cheaper simply due to size. I love walking my dog and seeing how happy he gets. It’s like he’s going for his very first walk every time lol. Some people may look at the list above and think that’s a lot of time, money and effort. But for me it all brings me so much joy, fun memories. Unlike objects, the time and energy I put into having a happy, healthy dog actually fulfills me so much and the reward is having a great bond with one another. But some people just aren’t meant to be pet owners and don’t share the same experience and that’s okay too! Hope that gives a different perspective!

Yeah I just spent 750.00 on my cat for gastritis issues and I am glad he's ok of course but I do realize since retirement is within a few years that this is the last pet I will be able to afford. Also no thanks on the waste of money flowers. Happy Sunday 😁

I always say it seems like the poorest people I know have the most pets! I’m an animal lover. But I feel like if I got a dog that I can’t take proper care of. Do I really love it…

On the flying one, air travel is also one of the worst (if not the worst!) purchases for the environment. I really don't think minimalists should be promoting a jet-setting lifestyle in general - it just seems contradictory to its core message.

I have never watched an episode of 'The Simpsons'.
