@christophersakwa16253 жыл бұрын
@@dimaisatree I spent too much time prior to the bootcamp on html and css, I'd advise anyone to spend most of his/her time instead on learning JS. I did a bit of JS before the bootcamp but not as much as I'd have wanted to. Bootcamp was good in that it helped me get started and stay on course, before that I'd start tutorials and hardly finish anything. It also helped me connect the dots on web development. I'm I satisfied with what I learned? Significantly yes, but not 100%. We learned some things that are hardly in use anymore, like Handlebars for front end. Think of a bootcamp as drinking from a fire hose; you can quench your thirst but you'll also get messy in the process. My advise? Take a part time Bootcamp but study as if it's full time. That way, you get to retain a lot of content and have more time to practice with the weekly homework and daily class activities.

Thanks Jerry! If you want to get into game dev look into C# if you’re ever interested. I know a lot of game engines utilize it.

I just signed up for the Cyber Security boot camp at UNC Charlotte. I've been researching coding boot camps, and I see most people recommend them. However, I have also seen many potential employers say they'd rather hire someone that is self-taught. I don't want to waste all this money, and go into EVEN more debt than I did while getting my undergraduate degree in psychology. I'm also working all but 2 days every week. I'm in the part-time program, so it's 6 months long, and from 6:30-9:30pm on Mon and Wed, and then 10-2 on Sat. I'm a huge skeptic, but I already gave them the deposit and took out my loan. I know I can put in work, I just am now worried that this is a pointless endeavor based on what the Reddit users said about boot camps. Did most of the people in your camp get jobs relatively soon after the boot camp?
@Joxel5 жыл бұрын
Hey @Lockag6, I totally understand where you're coming from. Believe me, when I was gearing up to start my bootcamp, I was reading all kinds of sub-reddits and articles that depicted bootcamps to be a waste of money or less than useful. I'll say this: You've already put in your deposit. You're in. You've taken the first few steps. Now you've got to maintain your enthusiasm and momentum. Sure, some companies wants someone who is "self-taught". But everyone also wants hands on, practical experience. Right now, you have the opportunity to get both. Do your best in the bootcamp and absorb as much information as you can. Whenever you have free time, try and focus some of it on researching new subjects and technologies. This will contribute to your self-taught knowledge and experience. Overall, I believe you're setting yourself up to get ahead, so long as you stay focused and do your best!
