@@ELECTRIC-DNA Hey great to hear from you guys, absolutely! The restaurant with New Mexico cuisine that comes to mind is Little Anita's located at 10200 Corrales Rd. That restaurant has been there for over twenty years. I always order the Stuffed Sopapilla with carne adovada added X-mas (both red&green)smothered on top of it. X-mas a New Mexican preference among the locals. But they have other wonderful selections. Enjoy!

Carne adovada is the red chile marinated pork at Cocina Azul. Mmmm! And there are many roadrunners in southern California, too. You arrived in a cold wave, the edge of even worse cold that hit Oklahoma to Houston and San Antonio. That's rare - they usually have a steady climate but Dec-Feb it's often chilly and not warm, low desert like Phoenix.

We just had our first snow storm lol. It's the coldest it's been since last year haha. Everything was very accurate, but don't let those speed limits fool you! Lol we have some of the worst drivers here and people driving 60 in residential areas. But the part about slower living.... Yes, we are the land of mañana. ❤️

I visited from the UK first week of Feb and got caught in the snow...it was so bloody cold!! You can only go to the Trinity site in April and October. Atomic museum was excellent - good recommendation. Los Alamos is worth a visit, the Very Large Array south of the city is a great drive too.

I go home each year during the Green Chile harvest to get 300 lbs of XXX Hot Hatch green Chiles. Roast them, peel them and dehydrate them so I can have my daily dose, and so I can make Green Chile Stew. The peels can be dried and ground into a powder as a spice, and the stems dried and added to hickory or other woods to smoke meat. Sopapillas and a few other Northern New Mexican and Southern Colorado foods were originally Sephardic Jewish dishes, many of the first Spanish families in the 1590s who migrated were descendants of Spanish (Sephardi) Jews who were hiding from the Inquisition in Mexico City.

I live here in ABQ, all good info. the reason it was cold in febuary is because its Winter and were not actually the desert, we are high desert which makes a big difference. We are at 5,000 ft elevtion, higher in the foothills. The same elevation of Denver CO. Yes Winter is cold but some years more than others and the majority of days the suns still out which warms things up. The rest of the year (March- November) you will never need a jacket. Summer is hot but not too bad (no hotter than most of So Cal) and the monsoons come in July/August and cool things down. Im a So Cal Native and I prefer the weather here for the most part. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful city, Feb is a bit bleak as everything is still dormant, it comes to life in the Spring, flowers everywhere and the trees leaves return, its quite beautiful, as is mid to late fall when the trees turn. Enjoy your travels! Austin is cool!

Glad you mentioned our vibrant art scene! With covid, we're all closed down, but we have such a rich music scene here. Some of my favorite local bands are: The Big Spank, Crazy Fool, Merican Slang, Bandwidth No Name, and Synyster Vail. There's a million others that I love too, like Lone Piñon who play traditional New Mexican music and host events where traditional dances are taught, like the wedding dance called la marcha. Speaking of dancing, we have tons of Flamenco dancers and the National Institute of Flamenco. And interestingly, a pretty vibrant belly dance scene (I study under the incredibly talented dancers/founders of the Desert Darlings). And unrelated to all the above, NM is super geothermal! If you're into hot springs, our state is great. I'm from New Mexico and I love this state and my city with all my heart.🖤 I'm very proud of our culture and community!

I used to work on Kirtland AFB and there's a huge wooden trestle and associated structures (ATLAS-1) still there (I believe), on which aircraft were tested for resistance to electromagnetic pulses. It was (remains?) the world's largest wood laminate structure and has very few metal fixings. It's now all done by computer modelling but, apparently, it would be very expensive to dismantle the trestle so it sits there in the sun, slowly deteriorating. 'Plenty of other interesting things on KAFB too, mainly related to energy research, etc. but not, of course, open to the public. BTW, NASA sent its first set of prospective astronauts to Lovelace health research facility in the city to assess their fitness for training. A very interesting place!

Weather-wise, if you aren’t from here it’s easy to forget that the Abq is above 5,000ft, roughly same as Denver. Yes, we are the other mile-high city, so no strangers to cold and snow, although with drought and warming our little mountain range scarcely gets the snowpack it used to.

Red chili is milder than green, but it'll still wake you up & clear your sinuses! * There's a resident roadrunner in my neighborhood. * We have both Mexican & New Mexican food. Try El Camino Dining Room on N. 4th for fantastic Mexican food. The best food at reasonable rates is the Frontier Restaurant on Central Av. (Rt.66). Albuquerque is NOT a "small town". It's the 35th largest city in the US. * Albuquerque is becoming a movie center. A lot of movie companies are moving in.

Red usually has pork fat which cuts the heat. Sour cream also cools the heat, yes it changes quickly 85 a couple of days ago mid sixties the next day. We rarely have 25 as a day time high usually mid 50's in the winter but there was one year I went and bought a coat because I was super cold. Albuquerque is the biggest city in NM and with rio rancho right next door we have around a million people in this area.

I don't think our weather is unpredicable at all. In winter, we can get a little snow. It is about 20-30 degrees at night and 50 degrees during the day. Coming from the Midwest I totally think that is moderate winter weather. We are at 5000 feet, so we do have 4 seasons

Glad you enjoyed your stay... early summer and mid fall are the best times for decent weather semi-consistently lol, but the winds can get so awful you'll be shocked it's not a tornado. There are tons of historical places here in NM, especially because we've always been a hub of merging cultures since before the Spanish wandered here. We also have much less government regulation than many other states... in a lot of ways we pride ourselves on still being a little bit wild west while also being home to technological and entertainment industries of the future. Great place to visit, but we also have a nickname "The Land of Entrapment " because people often come for a visit and decide to just stay forever lol.

#10 is true. A lot of people from the area will say it's not. But EVERY CITY IN THE UNITED STATES think they have the worst drivers in the country. Locals have to realize that it's bad because it's your traffic, but on a grander scale it's not that bad. He's right, you can ride and see things at the same time. Try doing that in LA, Houston, D.C., Austin, or Miami. I lived in Atlanta. And when I moved to Phoenix, traffic was almost kind of boring to me, coming from Atlanta. In Atlanta you encounter a lot of highway standstills that could last 30 mins-2 hours. Always have to drive defensive; it's exhausting having to be on guard so much while driving. But these people in Phoenix swear it's the worse drivers they have ever seen. Not even close.

Yes chili is great. Although, there is different levels of hot . Always ask to get any chili on side or separate container because it might so hot that it destroys the whole meal, and that way you can try a little separate before combining into or on top.

Hahah as someone who lives in ABQ I'm always so amused by people talking about their visit here because I forget that the things we consider normal are pretty new to people from other states (I almost ran over a roadrunner the other day!!😭 I didn't though, it's okay). As much as I love our culture here and think it's very unique to all the other states, please be careful. There is so much crime, not family friendly. People who are just passing through to get fast food get robbed and it's a capital for human trafficking because of the highways we have. If you're planning on moving here with kids, I recommend living in RR, the APS system horrible and RRPD is much more efficient. Lmao as much as I'm always like "ugh I hate it here there's nothing to do", I know that if I ever move I'll miss it so much 😂. Awesome places to visit here are SF, Taos, and Red River, maybe take a hike in Pecos!

The weather is unique! We have 4 seasons! Sometimes all in the same day!! I experienced it for myself!!! Cold w/ light snow in am... windy.. then rain ... the sun came out & went back into my office.. Later just right!!

The heat in the summer is intense. Been here a year and a half and i agree, the weather is unpredictable. Wlinter is really cold.

Los Angeles (most of my life) Nashville, Atlanta, New York, Milwaukee and St. Louis -- the kindest people to me are the ones I've met or worked with here in ABQ. The Vista's here are breathtaking. It's truly is as enchanting as the motto goes. Where else can you sit on your balcony and watch hot air balloons drift by? At times it's simply surreal. Thank you for asking!

@@ELECTRIC-DNA Yes. Although everywhere I've lived has it's qualities. But, yes ABQ has really impressed me. Of coarse, like all of us, the pandemic has soured things considerably. That is to say, there's so much I want to explore, but with the restrictions it's made things somewhat difficult for all. I'd like to go and visit Santa Fe and do some fly fishing--That will happen soon I pray. Also, one of the reasons im here is due to the fact that Netflix is investing heavily here building studios and planning big productions going forward here. That's exciting. I've worked in the industry both above and below line-- After the pandemic, anyone's guess as to when, they'll be shooting gangbusters here.

Oh man you guys missed out on going to the Trinity Site (White Sands). When you see the dunes, It's like being in a dream because all the sand around you is pure white! It's amazing. It feels like you're in the Sahara desert in another dimension. Also they rent out sand sleds!

If you ever come back, you have to check out the Sandia crest, it’s beautiful and my favorite restaurant is papa felipe’s, get their chile rellenos, it’s not too spicy. And the balloon fiesta is amazing if you’re in town for it. Also in Santa Fe you gotta check out meow wolf! It’s a and interactive art museum with a story to it. Floating down the Rio grande is a lot of fun too. A very wonderful place to check out is old town! A lot of cute locally owned shops. Also check out the Candy Lady, she made all of the blue rock candy that was used in the filming of breaking bad.

#10 absolutely cracked me up - it is SO wrong it's comical. Burquenos (ABQ residents) are hands-down the WORST drivers in the USA - they race around like maniacs, tailgate like their car wants to hump yours, don't use turn signals, pass on the left or right, change lanes like they're playing auto hopscotch, and run red lights constantly - like if they just get tired of waiting for the light to change. The cops NEVER pull anyone over for driving like a lunatic, so people know they can do whatever they feel like. I see rear-enders and mid-intersection wrecks almost every single day. Don't get me wrong - I still love ABQ - but if you're not a VERY defensive driver - count on being in a wreck. Soon...

Hi Tammy, I think the relatively low cost of living and variety of outdoor activities would make it a good place to retire but I would definitely research it. There’s some other commenters on this video who do live in Albuquerque that you can probably ask. -Aimee

You can live comfortably and in decent weather (300 days of sunshine) in Albuquerque. We spend a lot of time drinking cocktails on patios, great golf courses, skiing and mountain biking and hiking, Santa Fe (a world class city and culinary hotspot ) a short drive away from ABQ as well as hot springs, forest (Taos, ruidoso, Red River, Jemez) and beautiful scenery. The altitude takes some getting used to from sea level or below (Santa Fe is as high as Denver) and ABQ is high as well. The food is rich and diverse also. The cons-crime is a thing here, but you can curb it depending on where you live, auto theft is a major crime. However, ABQ is getting better all the time and it is progressing, but as New Mexico does, it moves slower than the rest of the country (the land of Mañana). Definitely visit first, in the fall and again in the summer or try winter in Santa Fe to get a nice cultural idea.

Santa Fe NOT Albuquerque. Education level of people in Santa Fe is somewhat better. Most citizens do not have a highschool diploma. It shows in so many different ways - getting a prescription filled, asking a question at the DMV, checking out the voting situation, restaurants - education really does make a difference in the quality of life around you.

Sour cream or milk calms chili as most New Mexicans know. Albuquerque is high desert so is cooler at night. Better Call Saul is also filmed in Albuquerque. These tourists did not contact the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau prior to their trip or they would have not been surprised. They should have taken a trip to Santa Fe and Los Alamos while in Northern New Mexico., they missed great food, with and without Chili, and all things native.
