What surprises me everytime i go to Japan in august is that the level of conversation for girls is limited to 3 words only: 1) when outside: 暑いー!!🥵 2) when entering a building: 涼しいー!☺️ 3) when looking at anything out of the ordinary,it could be a penguin at a zoo, a new dumpster design or a copper gutter: キャワイイー❣😍

When we went to Tokyo with my son, we were in the rush hours with our luggages. Just landed to Narita. I was feeling so guilty to be here on vacations while Japanese were coming back from work, that I didn't dare to force our way in the train. We waited six or seven trains before to board.

Though there may be a lot of young men in Japan who reveal that they want to marry someone, it is also true that there are many young men who are not interested in having affairs with girls (what is called "soushokukei")or who cannot marry because of their financial problems or something. Over 10% of Japanese men never get married to anyone, while the rest of Japanese men are said to have 2 children on an average.

I could comment on every 1 of those points you made, but I’m tired & I have to get up at 4:30am. That said, I’ll only mention 1 thing. I’m a man from the States across the pond & I enjoy discussions. I want to know why you feel that way about something, & I’m happy to share why I feel the way I feel about that subject. If 1 of us is unintentionally ignorant about something while we think we know enough, I’m happy to enlighten you on why my point is right or I’m happy to be enlightened by you if my point is wrong. If knowledge creates a problem, it’s not through ignorance that we can solve it. And if we can’t disagree at all, we have nothing to talk about.

Hi there, I'm from Germany like Kathy and I also love discussions. But in "business english" we learned to avoid topics like politics and religion, even though those are pretty much the German's "small talk". And I also noticed a lot of Americans don't really wanna talk about those topics. (There are exceptions of course) and I really wondered why that is, because those themes are SO important!
@bostontracy5151
@bostontracy5151 4 жыл бұрын
FiveOClockTea I myself dislike politics in general, that’s why I personally don’t like to talk politics. And religion, I’m a pretty religious person, especially after what all I’ve been through, so you’re not going to change my mind. That said, if you go into a religious conversation trying to convince me that my religion is wrong, then we’ll not become friends and there’ll be no point in us talking. Religion is very personal to me, so trying to argue that my religion is false is on about the same level as insulting my Mom.
@FiveOClockTea

@@bostontracy5151 for me discussion isn't about convincing someone that they're wrong, but about exchanging opinions. I personally am not really religious (because I simply do not like the conduct of most western churches) but I am interested in the differences and history of how these religions came to be. So long as what you believe in doesn't interfere with my live I'm fine with it. Everyone should have the right to believe, or not believe, in whatever they want :-) But politics, well, as it is something that influences our lives and that we can influence as well I think it is important to be open to other people's point of view, and still have a level conversation about it, even when the opinions differ. maybe you'll get to know about something that you didn't before, who knows?
@FiveOClockTea
@FiveOClockTea 4 жыл бұрын
@@bostontracy5151 also, I'm sad to hear, that someone apparently told you, that your religion is wrong. One would think that in this day and age, especially in first world countries, people would be more open to the differences in everyone, be it believe, nationality, colour of skin or even sexuality, but I sadly also know that that is not the case... I hope you didn't take it too much to heart, not everyone is like that 🌻
@bostontracy5151

FiveOClockTea I acknowledge your dislike of- & disagreement w/ most churches & I respect your honesty. The most I can say, that could sort of be taken as advice, is that I don’t worship the church or the pastor; I follow God & believe what I believe is right. That’s why I’m a Nondenominational Christian, I disagree w/ various parts of most doctrines of what Christianity has become. As for politics, I didn’t say I completely abstain from any kind of political involvement; I just hate the deceit (which is exactly what politics IS, nowadays). I do a little research, remember many past actions, do a little digging, then act on my feelings/findings & vote. I just greatly dislike all the deceit & people that follow blindly & argue that I’m wrong because I DON’T follow blindly. It’s frustrating. And so many people over here think that, if you’re not the same religion, you’re wrong & it’s their duty to force you to believe like them or make you feel like s***. It can be irritating & infuriating.

I doubt that religion is not important to Japanese people, but the desire for social harmony, which you alluded to when speaking about the lack of serious discussion, means that they likely won't try to proselytize. All those temples and shrines suggest that religion is still a very important thing to Japanese.
