I never eat raw chicken, I'm Japanese though.

I don't think there are many Japanese people who like to eat raw chicken, beef, or horse meat. After all, unlike fresh fish, chicken, beef, and horse meat carry the risk of infectious diseases.

This was very interesting. The audio was a bit thin but still audible. It sounds like the mic was out of phase. BTW Cathy, you have a perfect nose and a great profile! ❣

Thanks! Cathy Cat 🐱 good interview i’m sure that no matter how weird you or your friend think you are forget about it lol 😂 i live in the States and NY State so when the going gets weird the weird turn pro and i would think that after 9 or 10 years of living in Japan 🇯🇵 you would have difficulty expressing anything to English speaking people cause the thinking is different , have a great day people you’re great 👍

Yeah they were picking up other people around talking at the event. Distracting if anything else

It sounds like they recorded from the wrong microphone (maybe the camera's mic), and ran it through some post-processing editing to enhance voices and reduce background noise, to at least get something usable.

i hope everyone realizes that the japanese DO know what appropriation is and are very against it in certain contexts. its why the japanese government sent a letter to Kim Kardashian when she wanted to call her company “Kimono”. after educating her about how offensive it would be, Kim changed the name to “Skims”. appropriation in the western world and in a homogenous society like japan presents itself in different ways.

I would love to learn how to properly wear a Kimono and Yukata. They're both really pretty. The guy that said he wishes kimonos were just as popular as western style suits is on to something, why is western style common clothing the prominent day wear? We should be encouraging folks from other cultures to bring their own culture into mainstream fashion. Everyone deserves to be represented in the world, not just western/European people.

i'm french and i dare to use kilt more than pant. But i wouldn't use kimono as my everyday wear, i'm too shy for that. Having said that, i would like to have more than one yukata in my wardrobe. The problem was that when i was in japan (i went here twice), i mostly saw woman kimono and only a few men kimono. I'm not talking about yukata, but the more formal one, specificaly the spring/autumn kimono (that the one i want). I've tried to go to a big market in kyoto but it was raining so i didn't dare to try the kimono here because i was really wet. I wish i could find one, preferably a black one (with a colorfull obi )

The walking and smoking thing tho... geez if it bothers you say something and maybe the guy won't do it anymore. People who act like everything is cool but low key judge you are the WORST.

This interview left Japanese Americans and Japanese Europeans out. Their experiences obviously differ from native Japanese living among native Japanese.

The whole 'cultural appropriation' thing is just virtue signaling run wild. Can you imagine someone in Japan berating a Japanese person for wearing a cowboy hat, cowboy boots and jeans, while eating BBQ? That would be absurd and the person doing it should feel absurd. Culture dies when it isn't practiced and appreciated, and people who sincerely want to participate will never be unwelcome.

Just w translation question. Why was Yakuta used sometimes but also translated as Kimono?

Dated a half-Japanese guy from Japan in Hawaii. We dated as co-workers, and he would only go as far as kissing me hello and goodbye on the cheek before and after work if co-workers weren’t there or were busy elsewhere He would kiss on the lips in public at night with little to no people around, but we mostly held hands. Only when he was drunk did he ever go full-on PDA with a ladies-first attitude… He eventually warmed up to more intimacy much later if I asked at the right time. I broke it off with him when we lost communication of our needs since we couldn’t agree to a compromise

I also read somewhere, “it’s ok to wear kimono, but you should be careful about the type for the time of year; summer kimono in the summer, etc.”
@MokiefraggleКүн бұрын
It's at least partly to do with the cut, the number of layers, and the material. A yukata or other summer kimono is going to be cotton or another lightweight and breathable fabric, lightly colored, and have fewer under-layers to be worn with it. A winter kimono is going to be wool or some other thicker fabric, have more layers meant to be worn with it, and might be of a more muted color palette. I had one of each as a kid: the summer one was white with a bold pattern of temari balls, while the winter one was a deep plum and had a dark flower pattern. You definitely wouldn't want to wear a yukata in the winter (unless, perhaps, you're a yuki-onna!), or a winter kimono in the summer!

As a German I can only say, that there is a WILD interest in Kimono (and other colourful, traditional clothing) here! We look like a drab bunch of people (and maybe we are) but that makes colourful, lively clothing only _more_ enticing to us! (even if we feel awkward buying or wearing it but that doesn't mean we don't secretly want to)

It's pointless to ask someone living in a country where there own culture is dominant if they mind foreigners using parts of their culture aka are they worried about cultural appropriation. The answer will most likely always be a yes that it's ok. This question only makes sense to ask people who live in a country where they're a cultural minority, ones where the dominant group is from another culture and tensions exist between the groups. That is what causes the response of cultural appropriation. When a dominant group in a country appropriates parts of minority cultures in the same country, it's usually upsetting due to the history of xenophobia faced by the minorities cultures. Also it's hilarious to ask this question to people selling kimonos - of course they're gonna say everyone should wear them they're trying to sell their product. Just another example of biased citizen reporting where the survey design is meant to give you the answers you want to fit your hypothesis. And people don't critically analyze the information because they're just looking to reinforce the biases that align with their worldview.
