Yes, being classy is not the same as being rich. My husband and I are not rich but we make a comfortable living. I don’t buy luxury bags or shoes or clothing. But I do buy clothes that fit well, are timeless, and modest. I also sit and speak like a lady. I don’t slouch, and I walk with confidence. I speak kindly and respectfully to others. These are all things my parents taught me.

A few things that come to mind before even watching the video: being rude, staring at people, gossiping, bullying, behaving like a narcissist, lacking empathy, lacking curiosity about the world and about learning and understanding new things. In terms of materialistic matters I think it comes down to hygiene, and being resourceful. Respect is a key word for class. Respect for your body, for other people, for nature, for your environment.

I worked for really old money families in Manhattan. The men were not around much, but the women were always extremely smart, kind, well rounded and well traveled, never wore anything with logos or flashy jewelry, many got blowouts and manicures but no polish, they walked everywhere on the UES (car and driver were to take the kids to school and classes) and did not brag. Example: instead of saying they were going to their mansion in the Hamptons , they would say “we are going out East for the weekend”. If someone is very flashy, braggy = new money.

I love conversations about class, grace and elegance. Kindness, compassion and helping others is extremely classy and elegant thing to do. Only doesn’t make someone classy. It’s what you do with it to make the world better and equitable for others. It doesn’t take much to have class. Hello Anna, I agree with the points you made. Generous people usually live longer and are happier, even if we don't have much there's always something we can give: kind words, a genuine compliment when appropriate... You said it all "Please" and "Thank you" are simple and yet powerful words. Displaying good manners and treating others with consideration and respect is a must no matter the social class or type of car we drive, that's possible for anyone! It reminded me a Bible advice "Do to others what you would like them to do to you" [Matthew 7:12]. Thank you for the video and for introducing us to the new member of the family :) xx

Class is all about how you treat other people, across the board. Making others feel comfortable when you interact with them. Going out of your way to be kind to someone who might need it. Maintaining your boundaries, but deflecting attacks on them with humor, perhaps. Lovely video, Anna. Good luck with the adorable Teddy!
@mikefozzer6415 Жыл бұрын
Making people feel comfortable could be a sign of people pleasing attitude, no need for humor so you could be seen as nice. Class means healthy mindset which equals to be firm at times because being assertive is healthy. Reciprocity is also important to understand, you see people for what they are, not for what you want them to be. Demanding kindness or going over the board with kindness often means insecurity and not healthy self-esteem. Act apropriately in given situation, not going out of your way to be kind, because kind is something you either are or not, it doesn't have a scale as many seem to think.

@CD-lr4su I am not concerned about that reference in the least. Harry and Meghan are living and dying by their actions, not anyone's skin color. Harry's behavior was used as an example; I think they are peripheral to this channel and the points Anna is trying to make about our own outlook and behaviors and what they say about us.
@diopfifi4937 Жыл бұрын
@C D he spoke about he's experience after years of leaks from the Royal family to the British tabloids. At least harry came out spoke instead of using tabloids reporters to get he's message out. The Royals do indeed speak, they use the tabloids like the daily mail and telegraph to do that. So Anna saying the Royals cannot reply is false. They have been speaking/leaking stories about Harry and he's wife for years. Royals are dysfunctional. Nothing classy about them.

Love these pointers! I have always been an observer and much more of a listener than a talker and recently went on a first date with a new fella and he refused to pay. That for me is a person who is tactless and has no class whatsoever. I personally dislike people who boast, talk endlessly, dislike animals and show no compassion or empathy. That for me is a person who lacks refinement and better to be alone than being with someone like that. Also, in my experience people are very good at putting up a pretence but their true colours eventually show and I always have the courage to walk out.

I am new to your channel and I must say I am learning so much from you. It seems to me that having class is simply having a strong moral compass. It is doing unto others as you would have done to you. It is caring about people and exhibiting a genuine concern for the well being of others and of animals alike. It is knowing when to speak and when to hold your tongue. It is understanding that a soft response holds more weight than a loud or obnoxious one.

@C D Human beings are animals too, CD--do unto other humans as you would have them do unto you. Have a wonderful day, CD, and all of us who have the good fortune to watch Anna’s videos--and especially those who don’t !

Glad to tune into such positive content. I was a forced catholic birth to narcissistic parents where there was no love, empathy or compassion. When I was younger my first impulse was to be harsh or obnoxious to people, like my father. It made me feel low class. I had to really work at being nice to people because it did not come naturally. Glad to say that after extensive personal work and converting to Buddhism, I can now handle difficult situations with confidence.

God bless you! I wish more women would talk about empathy and compassion in the context of class. ❤❤❤

I did not like it when people assume they can just bring their animals to my house. They don't even ask first. I know some people treat their pets like children but I do not view their pets as children. And sadly now even though I would like them to come visit, I have to move them to my do not invite list because I do not want them to bring their animals to my house.

Indeed.

even if they are like children, you still gotta ask if your children are welcomed by the host so it's not a good excuse

As much as I LOVE my pets and love to share their awesomeness, I agree that not asking before you bring your pet to someone’s house is totally rude and classless.

@@veemartian indeed! And, I would add, people who assume their partners are invited. I have had numerous occasions where I just wanted to have a catch-up with my female friends but one or more brings their partner without asking.
