There is a nice quotation by Mrs. Estée Lauder, the founder of the eponymous cosmetics house: “Your makeup should never precede you but walk with you.” It is a timeless piece of advice that benefits any lady of any age. A great deal of what constitutes elegance is about forming good habits: polishing shoes regularly, mending clothes regularly as well as cleaning and pressing them, getting enough sleep and good grooming. I take a few hours once a week to wash and deep condition my hair, do a home manicure, put on a face pack to clean and refresh my skin, mend clothes and so on. I use that time to relax, listen to music, watch a film or just pause and think. It is a routine I established when I was young and I still follow it more than forty years later. I highly recommend this to other ladies and girls too.

I KNOW there's going to be a lot of triggered people with the coloured hair point!! What folks need to remember is that Anna talks about a VERY specific aesthetic designed to appeal to a very specific kind of person. If you don't care about appealing to or fitting in with those people don't worry about it! (There are also groups of people who would be turned off by how she dresses, finding it "boring" or "bourgeois"!) I myself am very into personal colour analysis and what you discover when you learn about someone's best colours is that their natural, as-it-grows-from-their-scalp hair colour is basically always the best, most flattering and harmonious hair colour for them *if they are also wearing their own best colours.* Funky coloured hair is designed to make a statement, same as strong, colourful makeup, and in classic or natural aesthetics like Anna's you want your whole self to be the statement, not the clothes, jewels, hair, or makeup. That doesn't make either wrong, they are just different approaches with different effects and we can all appreciate different things. No need for hate or hurt feelings!

I believe investing in skincare is the best thing one can do for their appearance. The moment that you havr a good and consistent skincare routine, your skin will look beautiful enough to not need to wear makeup. Youll save to much when getting ready. you just have to add only a tiny bit of makeup if you feel like it.

Yess! I feel the same about hair and overall hygiene as well. If you do them properly and you keep your cleanliness at all times, it doesn't matter wether you are going out or spending a whole bank holiday weekend at home on your own. It also makes you feel a lot better because you know you're put together even if you don't have any makeup on and your hair is not perfectly straightened or curled. Clean skin, hair and clothes even if you're at home and no one sees you.

I don’t think anyone intentionally wears cakey makeup, I think the underlying issue is bad skin. Having had bad skin in the past, I know I would have rather piled on the makeup and look cakey than let anyone see my bad skin. The solution to this is focus on improving the underlying problem through skincare/treatments/diet/help of a derm (like I did) rather than masking skin problems with layers of makeup. Also I think a big factor that makes people look cheap is harshly drawn on eyebrows that don’t match their hair color which is a trend that’s not going away, but I guess that’s all part of the natural makeup look!

I follow Anna's example as well. When I was a teen and I had some skin imperfections, I got into wearing makeup (nothing crazy thankfully) but didn't care much about the actual issues. It made me insecure when I had to remove my makeup and not look like my "perfected" self in the mirror. It took me a few years to get my skin sorted out and ever since I pay a lot more attention to skincare than makeup. I don't feel insecure if I don't have any makeup on at all, it's actually very liberating! And I grew to love my freckles and other little details that would get covered with heavy makeup. It's all about accepting and loving your looks and adjusting your makeup to that and not vice versa.

@@fanni24 I have to say I'm very lucky that I got introduced to skincare before I discovered make up. I use a pumice stone made from volcanic rock (got it on Amazon) and work my heels, big toe, the balls of my feet, and lightly around my nails every time I shower. I now do about 30 strokes in total on all these areas of each foot. It only takes a few minutes. Afterward, I work a little oil into my feet (including around my toes) using Neutrogena's light, odorless sesame oil. My feet look pretty, and I didn't have to spend a lot of money on a pedicure:) Hope this helps those who cannot afford regular pedicures.

It took me many decades of practice to apply makeup so well that it's practically undetectable. Also, my skin is beautiful due to treatments, so I no longer need to cover up any imperfections and as a result, I wear less and less. 😉 With age, less is more, ladies.

I love tubing mascaras for this, little to no transfer and so easy to remove!! Also always keep a compact mirror or travel hair brush/mirror combo in your bag to check your makeup regularly when you're out, just very surreptitiously and fast. Waterproof mascara! After you apply it, you should clean around your eyes with makeup remover and a q tip after. It almost never smudges. I have watery eyes too and it works well. Just make sure to gently remove it with makeup remover at the end of the day. I use ponds cold cream makeup remover in the shower, and wash my face after and it does the trick without too much effort. Stay away from makeup wipes because you may pull out your lashes and irritate the skin trying to get mascara off. (Speaking from experience)

I would include Eyebrows into this. The Overplugged ones, the ones that are shaped weird (not if they are naturally a weird shape) and also the ones that are too bold or to feathery. Eyebrows frame your face and therefore they are really important. Now that i think about it i would also include the color of your eyebrow products not matching. Been there, done that, looked like a clown when i started doing make up and plugging them. This is not meant to hurt anyone who just isn't blessed with naturally pretty eyebrows though.

Oooo, you know what I think looks so bad for eyebrows is the people who had them tattooed on, before they came up with this new technique where they tattoo on each hair. To explain what I mean better: when people started getting 'permanent makeup' (that's what they called it, here, at least), they tattooed on the eyebrows as just one block of colour! Like, sure, from 45 feet away, it looks normal, but close up, it looks very very odd, because they just tattooed one big block of colour in. Whereas, now, they seem to be tattooing them on in a way that looks quite realistic, because they tattoo a bunch of hair-shapes on, not just one big block of colour. The pharmacist I go to has those blocks of colour eyebrows tattooed on, and I always always have to try so hard not to stare at them. They look so weird, but I don't want to be rude and stare.

The greasy hair!! Some years ago the internet was talking so much about how bad is to wash your hair everyday. And saying that if you don’t wash so much, the hair will stop being so oily. Well I believed in all that stuff and did the low poo method for 4 years. I washed it one day and the other day it was greasy already, and I had to make a bun. I live in a hot climate. It was disgusting, but I was believing in what those people were saying. After hearing a dermatologist saying that healthy hair is clean hair, I came back to washing it everyday. I am in my late 40's now. I used to wear jeans, t shirts, workout clothes all the time, I hardly ever wore dresses or skirts, in the past year, I have gotten rid of all of my jeans, I stopped wearing t shirts out in public unless I am at the gym, and I only wear dresses or skirts with a pretty blouse. I love all of your advice and how to act like a lady rather then just looking the part, so I am also trying to use your techniques as well as a few other beautiful influencers that help women become more elegant and to level up and grow. The only thing with the unnatural hair colors is that I think if you invest the time/money to get your hair done professionally- it looks much better than using something like Manic Panic. A good stylist can help you find a color/shade that looks good even outside of the natural color spectrum. I think it's less about the color and more the details of how the color has been applied/roots/tone etc.

Girl!! I wish I could have no greasy hair ever!! But you know there are people out there with fine hair that gets greasy second day after washing, and if you wash hair every day they get greasier and greasier as you’re stripping them off the natural oils, most dry shampoos make my scalp so itchy that I have to wash my head right away anyway, so there’s no always help.. it’s just not that easy for every single person out here to have perfect styled, washed hair everyday. It’s little depressing.
@druidriley3163
@druidriley3163 Жыл бұрын
I am told that people who wash their hair every day stimulate their scalps into producing more oil, so they create the problem of oily hair. It's just their body compensating for loss of oil and since you bathe every day...the trick I read is to bite the bullet and get out of the habit of washing your hair every day. Your body will adjust and throttle back on the oil production.

I`m an artist so my hair will always be some funky color but I do agree that it is SUCH a commitment to keep my hair healthy and well put together. I`ve spent the better part of 3 years developing a haircare routine and it has paid off, but it wasn`t easy. If you ladies decide to get funky hair, know that: - you must recolor it weekly, because unnatural colors fade so fast (especially purple). It ain`t cheap, so learn to do it yourself. Use brands such as Manic Panic that don`t harm your hair. Get a darker shade, and use a little bit (like a teaspoon) & add conditioner to lighten it for use. - you don`t have to decolor your hair! We all know decoloring your hair will damage it, so here`s my workaround: use permanent box dyes (yes, the come in pinks, purples etc.) for the first application. This will tint your natural hair. Then use Manic Panic as described above to maintain the color. Redo the permanent hair dye once a month, then just maintain it. - if you use box dye without decoloring, it will blend with your natural hair and the situation Anna describes will be avoided ;) No more annoying roots sticking out! Of course, it`ll take around 4-6 months for your hair to get pigmented and obtain the desired shade. However, if you wanna get a very pigmented shade (like magenta), you`ll have to decolor. This works only for darker, more "natural" looking funky colors (dark violets, dark purples, dark blues etc). Darker colors are also easer to balance with outfits. - always apply masks & treatment each time you re-dye your hair. It is a chemical process after all. Nobody likes dead-looking hair :D The end result will be a lot classier and distinguished than the usual funky dye job, like a slightly augmented version of your natural hair. Enjoy!
