I love your videos. It is very informative and you break the mold, on the standard of how "you are supposed to do things". It is refreshing to hear you can do things in different ways to get the same results.

It's nice to know there is a calcium reactor that isn't this huge behemoth outside your sump that may be an eyesore to others (not me, of course). Great tips!

It’s still seems very complicated as I’m new to the hobby but at the same time trying to learn and absorb as much info as possible, thank you for the informative video

How do they use so much calcium when they grow so fucking slow? The amount of calcium we supply is huge compared to the amount of skeleton laid down. Where is all of that calcium going?

Remember your article on the big destaco , did you guys get round to adding a second dosing pump for faster flow through the reactor?. I have a large custom built reactor using the destaco hard media which I can drive down to 6 ph but struggle to get a high dkh from the reactor even if its driven with a hefty over gas at 180ml per mi, comes out at 20 to 21 dkh.. One other curiosity question, rest gasses , I only ever see this build up if I run at a serious over gas and the down time on the reactor isn't long enough over night for the reactor to de gas by itself , no doubt there are other impurities in co2 which I have heard as refered to as rest gasses that build up in a reactor but if the case why don't they become problematic above a reactor ph of 6.2 ish . Good video above , keep them coming .

For me the daunting thing with calcium reactors is less about setting them up, but more the fact that after dropping 6 bills on a calcium reactor you're not even close to ready to go, need the carbon dioxide, ok fine get a canister filled up... wait now you need a regulator and oh no better get a really good one or that overly expensive Carbon Doser one ... fine NOW I'm ready to go right? Nope now you need a feed pump, and you can't go with a cheap peristaltic pump either! Then F-it... I'm going back to 2 part, all I need is some containers to hold it, and some peristaltic pumps to dose.

Hi Jake, what size is this calcium reactor rated for and secondly how many gallons is it feeding at your studio?

@reefbuilders, can you share your impressions of the Zeolite reactor? It's impossible to find a review anywhere. I'd like to use it to run the zeovit method, but I'm unsure whether the bubbles are enough to clean the zeovit zeolites.

Hey brother, I know the best way to counter the low ph in the aquarium due to the calcium reactor is to dose sodium or calcium hydroxide at a constant rate too (drops per minute). I do not use calcium reactors as they are unnecessary because all you need is sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide to maintain alkalinity. If you want to recreate the calcium reactors ions, all you need to mix is sodium carbonate and calcium hydroxide. I would drip it in drops per hour.

I use kalk on all of my tanks first, some also have dosing, some have reactors, and some have all three.

I'm still running the Twin tech but that's on a 600 gallon system, fully automated, and over $2500 with all the media and CO2 supply.

any average aragonite sand will do, just not too fine otherwise it might dissolve and fuse into a block.

the power supply hanging halfway out of the socket at 10:30 is triggering my OCD. Great vid, thanks for the insight! What do you think of using 2 part, calc reactor, and kalk on the same system? Would there be any benefit to using all 3? (for a 300 gallon system, using each sized for a 100 gallon system)
@ReefBuildersVideo
@ReefBuildersVideo 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I like to lay down the kalk as a calcium foundation and pH buffering, then a calcium reactor as a baseline for alkalinity, and then make smaller adjustments using dosed additives.

How much dkh should be dripping back into the tank? I heard more than 20 dkh on a slow drip
@ReefBuildersVideo
@ReefBuildersVideo 3 жыл бұрын
that's what I aim for, at least 20dKH but it can go a lot higher if you have much higher carbonate demands
