My biggest challenge in Sierra Leone was finding suitable bathrooms. A good business for public toilets would be an excellent addition for getting around town and the motorway - like restops with clean bathrooms.

I’m a Ghanaian from London but I have a Sierra Leonean friend from church. She speaks Krio. I learnt our foods are similar since we have peanut soup, jollof etc. We hardly talk about our cultures. I think even though we’re African but have different cultural backgrounds. Maybe she may not relate so there’s not so much connection. So I thought to watch this to learn about your people and culture. I want to also try Sierra Leonean food but how can I have this discussion with her?
@AuthenticAfrican3 жыл бұрын
Yes the foods can be similar (especially peanut soup). I have these types of conversations here in Ghana all of the time. I see something that looks familiar and mention that we do the same. If there is something that I see different I mention that as well. You both should try each other's foods more often. I would also recommend talking about dating, career opportunities, development in the country etc. There is much in common but there are some major differences too.

How do you navigate eating out as a vegan? I am vegan as well.I am partly Senegalese and Sierra Leonean living in the U.S and intend to visit this December.
@AuthenticAfrican Жыл бұрын
Appetizers and sides. Fries, Potatoes, veggie spring rolls, Pita Bread and Hummus. There is not much else you can really eat out. However, I have a housekeeper who cooks vegan friendly West African dishes.

@@AuthenticAfrican Amazing... I do cook most of my meals as well, but you know there is the urge to eat out when you travel. That's why I was asking.

Great tips!!! They will come in handy when I come to SL. What do you recommend in terms of money that have on you like when coming from the USA? How much money do you generally carry on you in a normal day as a tourist?
@AuthenticAfrican3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Glad you found them helpful. I tend to carry Le 400k - 1M which is about $40-$100. Make sure you have a shoulder bag or something of the sort to carry your valuables in.
@peterturayjr12093 жыл бұрын
"I dae cam" can even mean an hour or 2 sometimes.🤦🏽♂️😳 Best way to navigate that is to keep yourself occupied or run your own errands in Freetown/SL or your local district whilst waiting for the person to come.👌🏽

I actually spend more money in Salone in a day than the U S. In the U S. if I have gas in my car and food in the house I can go for days without speeding. Salone is expensive in my own opinion .
