I love how John Hughes always portrayed teenagers as having a full awareness of the world around them and the adults tending to be so narrow minded.

I was 8 when my uncle took me to see Ferris Buellers Day Off. My uncle was a bit of a Ferris himself. He was never on time, life seemed to come pretty easy to him and found the humour in most things. My uncle was late picking me up and when we finally got into the theatre we couldn’t sit next to each other, he had to sit behind me. That was a first for me! This movie was the first time I thought “I never want this movie to end.” I found it magical, wonderful and I hoped I would have days like this when I became a teen.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I loved it so much I just sat there and watched all the credits roll to the very end, just wishing there could be more, then Ferris came out and told ME to go home. I read that John Hughes put that end in to trick the audience. It was Ferris putting one more over on everybody. He said he imagined the audience getting up and being halfway to the door and then there was more movie. They would come back and it would be over. I didn't fall for it, I was waiting for it. I grew up in Chicago and was about Ferris' age when the movie came out. Our family dog we rescued in 2017 is named Ferris.

Maybe it's me but the movies were awesome in 1986. And though I missed seeing FB in the theatre, it has become one of my faves. It's just a classic that will never get old. I do want to point out to Sir Paul (whom I do have respect for) that he can gripe all he wants about "Twist & Shout" and it sounding too "brassy", but it's not his song; it's not The Beatles' song; it's an Isley Brothers song. And for the scene, the horns used to amplify the sound was pure genius and made the song explode. It was perfection. So, there.

@@r0bw00d It wasn't money from his pocket, to be sure, but I paused the credits once (on VHS!!! that was hard) to see for myself. They were actually competing for a portion of his per-episode paycheck, at least according to the end credits.

Top video as always, Minty!! Cheers! Here’s one - What actual day did Ferris take off, and how do we know? Answer: June 5, 1985 We know this because of the baseball game they attended, Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves. Cubs lost 4-2 that day BTW
@pamelamays41864 жыл бұрын
On Fox there was a series that was inspired by this film by the name of Parker Lewis Can't Lose. It was many of the same elements, including a school principal whose mission in life was to have Parker expelled from school.

Such a classic childhood flick! Alan Ruck looked pretty youthful, despite being on the cusp of 30, and there's a theory that Cameron may have imagined Ferris, a la "Fight Club"! 🤔😂

Also, Jon Cryer was considered for the role of Ferris Bueller. I agree 100% it's impossible to imagine anyone but Matthew Broderick in the role, and I honestly don't think the film would have been nearly as successful if any of the main roles were recast.
