No one did it better than Chevy during this time. His comic relief was perfect for this series.

It's not "comic relief" when the whole movie is a comedy. Then, it's just "comic timing" or "chops". Comic relief is an unexpected light-hearted beat, after an intense scene, typically in dramas, thrillers or horror movies. It's great being corrected by some twerp on the net, innit..? 😌 Sorry - didn't mean to be a dik...

@spek-272 жыл бұрын
@@MrWoodMan23 Well then all those other people also don't understand what comic relief means either, because he's right. You're definitely not using the term correctly. "Comic relief" would be if it was a serious movie and you have a character that provides brief moments of comedy throughout the film to break up the intensity. The brief comedy scenes here and there give the audience some "relief" from it being all serious. That's why it's called comic relief. Definitely not the case in Fletch. This is just a straight comedy.
@spek-272 жыл бұрын
@@lueysixty-six7300 You're absolutely correct. The term comic relief definitely doesn't make sense in this situation. It's when comedy is is used in certain spots to break up the seriousness a little bit. It's to give the audience brief moments of "relief", so it's not so intense throughout the entire film.

Been waiting for you to do this one, Minty. One of my absolute favorite films of the 80s and a reminder of how funny Chase could be in this era. Funny that its his favorite performance as I also think it's the best Chase performance. Sadly, didn't care for the sequel at all but would've gone to see a third Fletch movie with Chase anyway. Over the years when I've heard of possible names for the reboot, the one that I think that would absolutely kill it is Ryan Reynolds as he has similar comedic timing to Chase. Not sure what to think of Jon Hamm in the role. But HEY, it's all ball bearings these days!

I may have seen an early test screening of "Confess, Fletch", but I'm not supposed to talk about it. If I had seen it, I would say that Jon Hamm was surprisingly very very funny, and the dialogue is crisp. He does pretend to be a few people along the way, but there aren't any crazy disguises or voices - it's not as silly as the original, and it's a little sexier. The plot is pretty confusing and hard to follow sometimes - it's about stolen art. Fletch finds a dead girl in the apartment he's staying at, hilarity ensues. It wasn't finished, it didn't even have closing credits. So the final version may be a little different - I thought the middle dragged a little. But Hamm is great, it's very funny, and I would recommend it. IF I had seen it, which I can't admit to publicly. But I did...

I love this movie. I'm sure it's one of the movies I must've seen over 500 times. I used to have a vhs copy I recorded off an on demand movie channel and just kept putting the movie on the tape. I think it fit 4 times. But I'd just leave that tape on all day. It was also one that I rented a lot. MCA tapes could never copy so I never had one until I found a copy to buy on vhs. I've owned the DVD a few times, but Chevy should do an audio commentary for both movies before it's too late. The biography, unless it was his autobiography, was quite depressing. Theres a reason he is the way he is. And why the hell did he just remind me of Robin Williams. I wish there was a 3rd movie with Chevy. One that could make the 2nd one look bad. I like it. But it's true how you cant capture lightning in a bottle twice. It only happens if you have a big metal hook that goes right into the flux capacitor. I love hearing about movies like this that no one believes in until they get someone saying different. And then they turn out to be some of the best movies of all time. It's a tough call, but I couldn't pick between Fletch or Sparky. He nails both characters like no one else. And the soundtrack. I swear if there isnt a 10 hour version of Theme Of Fletch, or whatever it's called. Then there should be. Speaking of lighting in a bottle twice. Harold's various cues in the movie make that theme so much better. It's cool that the song is on the soundtrack. But I think it's all those little ones just playing away in the background throughout the movie that make it memorable, without it seeming like overkill. Just like how Axel F was done. Itd be cool if they released an entire score featuring all those other bits. I've never read the books. But I'm sure if I did. Itd be Chevy Chase narrating it. Kinda like when I read Shawshank and Morgan Freeman is there in my head reading it to me. Hey Minty. If you happened to make it this far in the comment. Would you do one big one, or one for each of all 3 Naked Gun movies? Please forgive me if you already did one. I'm not closing this window and losing this comment to look it up on this VIC-20 I'm using.
