I'm a long time original Godzilla fan. I've seen every Godzilla movie ever made including some Gamera, Rodan, Mothra and Japanese King Kong. I love Godzilla 1998. It brought Godzilla back down to earth. Something that was lacking since the original. It wasn't over the top cheesy and silly like the dancing Godzilla, or the kid dreaming about being on monster Island and playing with Godzilla's son and learning lessons of how to stand up to bullies. I could see where they were going with the planned trilogy. Each new offspring of Godzilla will be closer and closer to the Godzilla monster of the Japanese films. The biggest problem with Godzilla by the time it reached 1994 is that he got too powerful. This is a trend that Toho kept going up until Godzilla Final Wars. It was getting less and less likely that Godzilla had any threat against him. Godzilla 1998 made him vulnerable again. While at the same time being a serious threat. All the actors had their A game on in this movie. None of them, or the movie, deserved any raspberry awards.
@HuettneraКүн бұрын
This "built up" thing about the planned trilogy is exactly what they did with the current "Monsterverse"-Run! They kept it relatively "down to earth" with the first movie and to a lesser degree with "Skull Island", built up on that with "King of the monsters" and went up from there until they went totally bonkers with the latest "Godzilla X Kong - The new empire".

What people failed to understand is that 1998 was a realistic animalistic take on the 1954 film, in which a radioactive monster appears and threatens humanity eventually getting killed, making way for another Godzilla to take place, fight other monsters, be more powerfull. The sequels would've seen way more action and more of the Godzilla-esque things such as abbilites of the creature etc. The thing is, this Godzilla went down the road of taking a beloved franchise and make it more realistic, like the early 2000s Marvel film, Bay's Transformers and so on. It also wanted to get on the Jurassic Park hype train (and honestly who didn't want that in the 90s as JP was the biggest Hollywood thing back then). To me, this film- while I admit it has some weird scenes and acting- is well treasured and despite seeing all the other Godzilla films, is still my favourite. And as a side note to all the people in the comment section- Godzilla '98 and Zilla are not one and the same. Godzilla in the 1998 and sequel series is still to this day trademarked as Godzilla, being featured even in media such as history of Godzilla books etc to this day. Zilla is a new character baring a similar design (tho not same abbilites, dimensions or origin) that has been appearing since 2004 in film, comic books and books. Many people prefer to call the '98 one Zilla either due to not liking him as Godzilla or hands down hating him, but officially he is and always will be Godzilla.

This movie and its animated series are pure childhood nostalgia for me. They are what got me into Godzilla, and then I realized how wildly different it is from OG Godzilla lol so now I just treat it as a good kaiju movie ❤

I was about 11 when I went to see this movie. Kids today don’t understand how summer blockbusters worked back in the day when the media was so narrow and controlled. It was actually really damn cool. The advertising for this movie made it seem like the biggest thing ever - things like Taco Bell commercials, Wallflower music videos, MTV specials, the works - it was a lot of fun especially at my age. I’ll always LOVE Godzilla ‘98 as a result.

This was very memorable in my life. My sister's and I grew up on the old movies and when this one came out, I was able to enjoy it with my kids. It had a lot of cool scenes and was very enjoyable. Mc Donald had some neat happy meal toys as well. I will always love this movie. It was a good time in my life.

I loved the film and animated series when I was a child and still don't mind them all grown up 20+ years later.
