She was also strong willed. She knew she was dying, but that did not stop her from being happy and grateful where many of us would have cracked and been sad. She spread positivity until the end. That is what made her strong, she did not allow a disease to stop her from enjoying life.

That's a great way to remember her by. I'm a retired police officer, 6'2", 215, competed in all sports, still ski, hunt, horse back riding and training, can throw bales of hay across our barn etc., but I loved this movie and watched it all the time with my second daughter all thru her childhood. This and Moulin Rouge. Her friends just couldn't believe that someone like me (I don't want to say manly but you get the picture) would not only watch these two movies with her but know every word of every song. Like you after I'm gone I hope (and know) that she'll remember watching Grease with me all those years. I apologize for the lengthy response but I know exactly how you feel.

It was still a thing when I was in school in the late 70s. Finishing school wasn't a thing in my neighborhood but occasionally the posture exercises would pop up in teen magazines and would spur the craze anew. My school district provided books for our classes for free (on loan) and would distribute outdated textbooks for free (to keep, if wanted) to any who wanted. They indulged us in supporting fads they saw as harmless even though it was a very blue collar industrial urban town immediately adjacent to Chicago.

Two interesting points: #1 the Bee Gee's broke records and had the longest running #1 songs on the Billboard list and wad eventually taken out by one song, a song ironically written by Barry Gibb "Grease". #2 is the fan theory that "Sandy" actually drowned in the opening and that "Danny" wasn't able to save her and the events depicted in the movie were all in his mind, a fantasy to help him cope with the fact that the girl he'd just met and was to be the love of his life had died tragically.

Thank you for uploading this, Minty. Olivia Newton-John would thank you also. They were actually called The Burger Palace Boys. My big brother was in a school production of Grease as a teenager, so I know. Instead of the Beach Boys joining in with the T-Birds during the "Greased Lightning" number, I might have wanted the Belmonts to join them. That would have been more period specific.

I just want to say thank you bro. Grease is one of those movies that have the feel good vibes that no matter what you're going through it always perks you up. Nothing but love. And this is the exact same feeling you give me when watching any of your videos. I'm at the point now that I don't care what movie you're doing. I'm just loving your company that you provide through this screen. You're about as authentic as it gets and really are a special person. After watching you all these years and gone back to binge watch all the uploads again I just can't get enough. Thank you again bro, I really mean it! You're a superstar. One major thing you forgot. A few years ago the writers/director behind grease admitted a theory about the movie was correct. Both Danny and Sandy had drowned in the beginning of the movie and everything after was them meeting in heaven

Good point!? I for one tend to regard this film as a _dream film_ , by Sandy, the point-of-view character. But, the "afterlife" theory sounds plausible, too (since the car flies into the air at the end, and it is not a sci-fi picture, the premise would have to be narrowed down to either AFTERLIFE or DREAM).
@chul074
@chul074 2 жыл бұрын
I heard slightly different, that only Sandy passed. She hit her head on the rock, didn't make it and the entire movie is her eulogy. Which as an adult the movie (morbidly) makes a lot of sense! Now that Minty tells us about Travolta doing Conaway's song, yes, in Sandra's mind Danny would be everything. The stuff that doesn't make sense would if it was all a dream. I'm glad Mrs Olivia was able to keep her accent because it gave a different life (singled out) and for her eulogy why fake a bad accent when it's not you.

They can say whatever they like, I guess. Like saying that actually everyone in the movie was an alien in disguise. It doesn't mean that thing they said was part of the screenplay or something that was intentionally thought about during the making of the film. They might have even just been having a bit of fun and saying the theory was true just for a laugh, or because it doesn't really matter because it doesn't change the film (but just changes a few people's perceptions of the film who believe them).
@chul074
@chul074 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexp601 I agree. The alien thing is new too me though; can't get with that one. However, her early death does put things into better perspective, but yeah that might change the movie rating and change the audience. If that part was in the pitch meeting but not screenplay...who knows? Perhaps like you said they could've just had fun with the crowd after many decades.

People actually looked older. My Dad was bold by the time he was 20. My Mom had long reddish brown hair with colorful lacy dresses and tool underneath big skirts. She gave me her prom dress after she passed away. They also didn't have makeup like we do now. Everything was very colorful and fast because people were inventing new technology and products leading to modern society. Grease was a amazing movie because it was a play before it was taken to the screen. It's very artistic and creative way to show the passed.

Ah Grease, a nice happy, feel good film featuring smoking, teenage pregnancy, changing your appearance to make a guy like you, and being convinced to give up your dreams! Honestly, its probably one of the most deceptively clever musicals ever made. And im surprised you noticed the girl with the book on her head, but literally none of the other extras. Seriously, watch the extras next time you watch it. They are always doing something funny or interesting, and have their own mini stories that carry through the film in the background. It's genius!

In the 80's when I first saw it, I was like "so they got a flying car in the end?" to which my uncle at the time said "It's because both of them drowned in the beginning of the movie and it was all a dream. I mean come on the song Goodbye Sandra Dee is pretty much the doctors pulling the plug on her" He said this as a joke back then and after so many years later it is said by so many. ONJ will forever be Sandy, but there were four others that were considered. Marie Osmond was their first choice, but she turned it down because she objected to Sandy changing who she was. Interesting that someone considered making an animated version of the stage show. As a kid, I always thought 'Grease' would make a great Saturday morning cartoon. you know, one of the theories was that in the end, when their car drives into the sky, that it represented that they died in a car crash together.. I hadn't thought about that goofy theory until I rewatched it after she passed away.. had a whole new meaning and brought some closure.
@tomkittyh
@tomkittyh 2 жыл бұрын
oh, I remember those theories. One that was floating about was that she would have died at the beach before coming to Rydell. so this would mean that the movie was based on Danny's dream of her still being alive, but only in his mind. How would he have known how she would have reacted with the girls? Another could have been both died at the beach when he was trying to save her and Rydell is heaven for her to show up. Since the original musical was based on Eugene's memory of them before a class reunion. The musical was his memory of the school. And if they had died in the end, what would have been causing of the accident? Driving into an airplane? Car running out of gas to fall to the ground? All those theories could/would put the movie into a bit of a morbid tone though it was a musical. I don't begrudge people for their way of dealing with her passing. To me, placing the 'what if' on a movie can give a different twist or place a darker side to the end result. Btw, I could keep mentioning things but I will stop to keep things on a good note and respect Olivia's memory.

Growing up in the 1980s, I did see the movie GREASE many times on television and I’ve enjoyed it. Roughly 10 years ago I finally saw the stage musical performance of GREASE at a community stage theater and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I do with the movie version. I’ve been so use to seeing the movie version as a kid, and then seeing it as a live stage performance I was not a fan. That being said I still enjoy the movie version. Then again, the same can be said about ROCK OF AGES: I’ve seen the musical stage performance many times and I enjoyed it a lot, whereas the movie ROCK OF AGES, I was quite disappointed entirely.
