And neither one probably wouldn't have been made had it not been for Star Wars, it's huge success created a wave that a lot of SciFi movies got green lit that probably wouldn't have been without it, I mean let's face it a movie about a huge space bug terrorizing the crew of a space freighter and a movie that's essentially a SciFi remake of High Noon would have been hard sells to studio executives when movie's like The Godfather and Chinatown were what was hot and were made during the "Director's Era" of movie making in the 70's, ironically Star Wars itself never would have been the hit it was if it wasn't made during the Director's Era because the studio let a director have complete control over making it, in any other era the studio would have stepped in and taken over the moment Lucas went over budget, like they did with so many movies and screwed them up after Michael Cimino's massively over budgeted 1980 flop Heaven's Gate, that's the movie that single handedly ended the Director's Era of movie making causing the studio's to step in and take over and screw up so many movie's the moment they sensed danger.

The chemistry between Boyle (whose character is an apologetic slime ball) and Connery was fantastic, and its a shame they didn't do another movie together. High Noon is not about a new Marshall, it's about an old Marshall who is ready to walk off the job for good with his new wife and start a new life somewhere else, but stays when he hears some old villains are coming who could cause problems. At first the whole town is behind him, but, as the story progresses, they all wimp out and he is left holding the bag by himself. It's a great movie and I highly recommend it. I always thought Alien & Blade Runner could be in a shared universe. Never thought of Outland. Could totally see it!

They were horrifying! I'm surprised the movie isn't better-remembered for its gore, if nothing else. Great movie...even if you have to cover your eyes now and then.

The funky bar scene music was by the Japanese Electro pioneer artist *Logic System* - a collaborator of Ryuichi Sakamoto's group Yellow Magic Orchestra - the "Japanese Kraftwerk". Those tracks are actually pretty great & were state of the art in 1980. Hyams knew his sh*t.

Saw this in the theaters when it first hit (my first R-rated film on the big screen, and I wasn't even TEN at the time). Still one of my faves after all these years.

The German title for the movie was "Outland - Planet der Verdammten" (Outland - Planet of the Damned). Don't ask me why, but German releases of movies often add a "The somethingsomething of somethingelse" to the title like that. :D

I always saw Alien, Outland, and Blade Runner as a future trilogy. Outland is where the resources are obtained, Alien is how they are transported, and Blade Runner is the representation of Earth. I realize Blade Runner chronologically is out of order, but the aesthetic works.

Saw this in the cinema on release and loved it. Thanks for a great reaction! I have gone on to watch the movie on cable TV and VHS. In the '90s some friends decided to play a tabletop RPG (think D&D) set in the near future with a colonial Solar system, and I modeled my character after Connery's, even attempting to do his accent. Among my favorite "space" movies.

Great video. Awesome movie. The best Sean Connery movie in my opinion. It could definitely be apart of the Alien universe along with Predator and Blade Runner.

Rumstation meaning “space station”? A surprisingly plain title. ( I guess it sounds just as good as “Alien”. ) Cool thing to learn! Thank you.

I feel Outland is actually one of Sean Connery's top 5 movies he has ever made. Maybe even #1 as far as his performance. The look and feel of the movie does fit Alien to a T. In fact when they came to making Alien 3 I think they should have reached to this for inspiration instead of the prison planet. This Blade Runner and Alien could all be the same universe and even around the same timeline if someone wanted to connect them somehow.

I haven't seen any of the deleted scenes from "Outland" in any recording. However, you can see stills from one deleted scene in a book called "Outland: The movie novel" Movie novels were basically graphic novels, with still frame photographs from the film instead of drawn panels. Underneath or beside each photo were blocks of text of dialogue spoken by the characters or description of what's happening in the scene depicted. In the one deleted scene I found, the shuttle carrying the assassins sent to kill Marshal O'Niel has just docked at Con-Am 27 on Io. Marshal O'Niel types in several queries in his computer concerning the shuttle's manifest (a list of passengers who had bought tickets in the past three days and their likenesses) and is told by the computer no such data exists.
