What I love most about the Mx5 are the pop-up headlights of the first generation. And of course, when you can, you've got to drive it with the roof down. Sadly can't have a driving licence though. I'm visually impaired. But I'm trying to come up with some Mx5 lookalike pedal car, to have something.

Would love the chance, not only to ride in an MX5, but also to learn something about Australian car culture, because you guys seem to be influenced by a lot of different countries if it comes to the kinds of cars and modifications you have, and driving laws over there. And Australia might be a country of driving oportunities for me. Sure, maybe by law I won't be allowed to drive. But appearantly you've got a lot of places where they won't post a police officer, because the only car coming by in more than a week might not even be doing anything wrong at all. So maybe I should move. ;) But traveling's expensive to begin with, and Discovery Channel is currently broadcasting a show about Australian border patrol. Your customs agencies are fierce.

On the winding A and B roads in rural Somerset my list of scalps included GT4 Celica, good few RX8’s, an S200 owner who then built a clone of mine, the only person I couldn’t keep up with on the twisties was a space framed mk2 Escort with a 1UZ Conversion. The NC MX5's chassis uses a modified Rx8 chassis. The Rx8 has one of the best, if not the best chassis in any sports car with how balanced, rigid and stiff it is imo. An oddity with power figures, the NB2 Mx5 had 152 hp in Australia and Japan, the UK and US got only 146 hp. However Mazda mistakenly put the wrong figures on early cars for the US and UK, stating it was 152 when it was actually 146, so they offered to buy back the cars to anyone upset about it, later updating everything to match the actual 146 hp rating iirc. Aussie Mx5s ran with OBD1 until 2006, instead of ODB2 also. One of the more ""rare"" Mx5s is the Titanium SE with this more powerful 152hp engine, only 150 ever were made for Australia. Which I am a proud owner of one. The NA and NB Mx5s are also front mid engine, since the engine is mounted behind the front axle, and not in front or on top of it. This is also something shared with the Rx7 and Rx8 and partly why all of those cars have excellent weight balance.

if you have a NA Torsen when you swap to the NB Torsen you can pop the dog ears off the NA diff and they'll slide into the NB diff. It's better if you run NB axles as there's maybe 3lbs of rotating mass in those dog ears.

There were a number of factory turbo models over the years, in the case of point 3 I was just specifically referring to the highest powered car offered from factory, the SP turbo MX-5 in Australia with the GT2560 garrett turbo.
