I had no idea that the ear tabs could be broken off and used as washers. Very informative video.

On number 4, you can use the removable ears for the purpose you suggested, however the primary reason for removal is for mounting to a 4 square metal box cover and for old work plastic boxes that are mounted to the drywall. On number 6, if the receptacle is switchable, only the hot side fin will be removed. If it's for 2 separate circuits, both fins will be removed, with the exception of a multi wire branch circuit which has a shared neutral.

ICYDK you can also disassemble them pretty easily, and is repairable... if you have spare parts and particularly fond of your outlet.

Should add, if you have a loose plug, those levers can be squeezed- no extra parts, no buying new!

Yeah but everyone knows what they mean by "outlet". Reminds me of an occasion when I mentioned the term "light bulbs" to an electrician. He wheeled around pompously and stated "bulbs are things that grow in the ground. It's a GLOBE" to which I responded "globes are spherical objects with a map of the world painted on them. Your turn...." which stopped him dead as his smartass statement got thrown back in his face. Really enjoyed that one : )

Yes but because anytime I say outlet people eat me alive in the comments 😁

Wow! What a great video. Thanks for the SQ 1 bit tip and the wire stripper tip. I think I knew most of the other stuff, but what a great refresher. Oh year the receptacle type that you can screw in from the back. I have never seen those. Do you have a brand/part #. Thank you so much!!!

Light switch that doesn't do anything probably was supposed to go to a switch receptacle, it got replaced and they didn't break the bar.

The square Robertson screwdrivers are used more than Philips here in Canada ... Robertson is a great bit that lost the competition to Philips thanks to Henry Ford
@BevinsBuilds3 жыл бұрын
I would rather use a robertson anyday as you get a better bite on the screw.

Phillips is self-centering and locks in better, slotted or more preferred by serial killers, car sales personnel, furniture movers and lawyers.
