Nah bro my physics teacher was great. If some douchebags were being douches he wouldn’t be an asshole or anything but he’d get the conversation directed toward action and reaction an how nothing will happen if you set idle and ignore real life (you get where that’s going probably) well they ended up turning out really cool. And I give that credit to him most likely because it was like they completely reformed themselves within a few months not like being something they weren’t but just more mature and responsible. And most teachers can’t do that. They can only teach the subject they are paid to teach. He didn’t even have to set down and talk with them or be stern. He never called anyone out but I noticed the change he made in a lot of people lives by the things he said in his teachings.

I don't get why people idolise him. He's not that smart. He's actually kind of dumb. Take the "Sun rises in the east..." point. In his explanation he was talking about Due East and Due West (exactly East and West) but the sun always does rise in the East (Eastern side of the sky) and sets in the West (Western side of the sky). So because the point behind him doesn't mention "due", the point is correct. Now he may know this and is just simplifying the topic, but now people are going to go around thinking the Sun only rises and sets in the East and West twice per year which is incorrect.

oh god that brings back a horrific memory. Some dick (I think I was 4 or 5 at the time playing tee-ball) decided to be an ass and mess around with something I was doing with sand (now, I don't like sand, jk, but still, *meme reference xD* ). At the start I was alone, then he came and I was like "dude, get away" and kinda shooed sand his way, and guess what? He decided "hey, Imma nearly f-ing blind this dude" and decided to whip sand into my eyes and that's the first time I ever used a curse word, the f *dash* *dash* *dash* word (now I don't even care if I do or not, but that was the first time, and at that time and a few years after until I was a few years into double digit age, I never said anything like that and if I even heard it or said it by myself, I couldn't get it off my mind due to me being self conscious of it). And I literally wanted to attack the kid at the time but I was being led off back to the car just to go home (the game ended about 10 minutes beforehand), and the kid didn't even feel bad, but his parents forced him to apologize and eventually he mustered up enough courage and willpower to apologize, but to this day, I feel it was still far from genuine and I still hate him and hold a grudge against him, and forgiveness is next to an impossibility. To this day, I wish I never lost contact, because now that I am more conscious of me being alive, and the physical strength I have gathered, I would confront him and hold him by the chest and interrogate him and basically beat (slap) the living crap out of him. Btw, I am 17 now. At least I'm not alone when it comes to childhood assholes with sand, lol.

@@maboleth KZbin is filtering my comments containing links. But if you do a search for "Fact checking Neil deGrasse Tyson" you can find my list of Tyson's errors and questionable claims. In this comment I will gave an example of Neil's bad history, though. A part of Tyson's routine from 2006 to 2014 was his account of President Bush's 9-11 speech. The talk was titled Bush and Star Names. Tyson has Bush bragging that his God was the God that named the stars so as to distinguish we from they. We being American Christians and they being Arab Muslims. However Bush's actual 9-11 speech was a call for tolerance and inclusion. It was delivered from a mosque. Turns out Tyson confused Bush's 9-11 speech with his eulogy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts. However in neither speech did Bush try to set Christians above Muslims. That falsehood came from Tyson's imagination and confirmation bias. Jonathan Adler did a number of pieces for The Washington Post on Tyson's Bush and Star Names debacle.

@Heathcoatman2 жыл бұрын
@@kenwittlief255 Not really. Many of these are exactly what the op said, semantics. Example, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The sun never rises in the west, or from the south, it comes from GENERALLY the east from our perspective. No one says this thinking 'exactly due east with no variation at all'. Ok, so the longest day is the first day of summer, so technically the days get shorter in the summer. However, during the cold time of year the days are generally shorter than during the warm time of year. Neil knows what people mean by this statement, but he's invoking semantics here. What goes up must come down? Basic Newtonian theory here, and of course there are exceptions and caveats, but in general, from the human perspective on earth, if you throw something in the air, it comes back to earth. I love Neil, true genius. This talk is really just petty semantics.

Suburban education in the US is still ranked among the top in the world, and the students in that demographic still perform on that level. The change is that the focus on education is now taking a more detailed analysis of the country's weaker performers: students and education systems in rural and inner city areas. As a result, the overall ranking of the US has shifted negatively. As for the mindless saluting of the flag as a means of turning citizens into mindless robots saluting a flag - the pledge of allegiance was introduced in the late 1890s - well before the development of the DoE. In fact, it was never federally mandated that it be incorporated. It is up to states to choose whether to dedicate time for the pledge, and not all of them opt for that. Further, it was the Federal Govt that said, back in 1943, that forcing students to recite the pledge was unconstitutional.

@PattyManatty6 жыл бұрын
you're out of your mind. At 5mph if you hit a brick wall in your car, you would likely sustain less injury without a seat belt. The car doesn't stop instantly, it crumples. And the distance between you and the steering wheel gives you more stopping distance which is taken away by a seat belt. The comparison between running into a wall is intentionally misleading here, because I refuse to believe that tyson doesn't understand this. Your face hitting the wall gives you an extremely high force because your stopping distance is like the thickness of your skin to your bones. Very very short. It's literally 1000 times bigger than this in a car. This isn't just semantics. this is a HUGE difference. You can try it. Put your seat belt on, accellerate to 5mph and slam your brakes with and without your seatbelt on. Without the seatbelt you can cradle your body with your arms, but with the seatbelt your body will dig into the seatbelt.

@SaithisXIV8 жыл бұрын
Even if the longest day is in Summer, with the rest of the days being shorter, it evens out during the year. So both seasons gets about the same daylight time. The misconception comes from the fact that Summer has the longest day and Winter the shortest.
@will_of_europa8 жыл бұрын
Saïthis XIV I mean, the whole argument is pointless. What does it have to do with anything? That's like saying "you have to microwave a hot pocket for at least a minute" and somebody yells at you and tells you "You have to microwave it for 2 minutes exactly." The argument has no meaning.
@KarateKidX8 жыл бұрын
>both seasons
@MrFrenchyge8 жыл бұрын
+Saithis XIV: No, summer varies between the longest day and an equal day/night, while winter varies between the shortest day and an equal day/night. The days are definitely longer in summer than they are in winter, and his point is just nerdy nitpicking at conventional wisdom.
@PimpTrizkit-428 жыл бұрын
It sounds like he is making the case that the phrase should be "Days are longer on average in summer" not "Days get longer". Because, using the word "get" implies that _over time_ the days "get" longer _during_ the summer. Which is clearly not the case. But his points lead one to conjecture that the bell curve of daylight length peaks on the first day of summer. Leaving half of the longer days in summer and the other half in spring. Same with the bell curve for winter/fall. Therefore, it shouldn't be wrong to say that the "average day in summer is longer than one in winter" however that neglects similar averages in spring and fall (the other halves of the same bell curve). So people shorten it to a more ambiguous phrasing that isn't entirely wrong if you don't assume that the use of the word "get" implies "over time .. during", but rather "will get in the future". As in, "Its winter right now, and by summer the days will get longer. And once its summer, they will get shorter by winter.". I guess a more appropriate shorter phrasing would be "Days *_are_* longer in summer and shorter in winter". Which can't be entirely wrong.. right? just a bit ambiguous and short sighted

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe it's just easier to think that the days get longer in spring and shorter in autumn... (why do Americans insist on calling it "fall"? Let's just rename all the seasons, maybe.. hot, fall, cold, grow?) :P

Let's go full 1984 with this and call them warm, plus warm, unwarm, and double plus unwarm. :D

Adding another myself: I've heard people say gravity is strong. But it's the weakest of the 4 by a million light years.

1. Thank you for whoever recorded this. 2. Whoever recorded this, thank you for please taking the initiative to learn about sound recording. I'm certain that he didn't sound like that on the P.A. system. It's so bad, it makes the scientifically curious ... less curious.

If you recorded this, I am thanking you, Anand. And thank you for asking such a mentally defective question.

If all it takes to make you less curious is bad audio, you've got other issues. Perhaps the person making the recording didn't have the funds for proper equipment. Considering your getting this all for free, you're hardly in a position to complain. What do you want, a refund?

Is MAD Magazine still around? I haven't even heard about it for a long time.

Alive and well. Look at discountmags dot com (sorry, using actual URLS upsets the comment N azis)(as does that word for what they are). 9 bucks for 6 issues (an annual subscription) - $1.50 each !! Compare that to the prices for mags in grocery stores nowadays, like 6 bucks.

I don't. I would miss half the classes cuz he's away talking at some convention or something half of the time he was supposed to teach class.
