I'm not entirely sure "Hine", the one she talks to where she takes a break, was Hine. I'm a New Zealander and Mavuika is based on the Māori Goddess of Fire and her sister was called Hine-nui-te-pō. Hine-nui-te-pō was the Goddess of Death. I wonder if maybe "Hine" wasn't actually Hine, but actually the Ruler of Death or the Lord of the Night Kingdom or some diety related to death in Hine's form. Pure speculation, of course, but it would be a nice tie in to the Māori myth.

The Natlan story shows how many people can be heroic and strong, and not just the ones who are playable characters. I hope the players remember this, when Lantern Rite rolls around again to celebrate the lives of ordinary people, who are all strong to face life head on.

Honestly? I think that's one of the primary themes of Natlan's story. Unlike other nations, the people of Natlan are not dependent on their Archon, other gods, or other diety-like beings for protection, faith or progress. Mavuika is still their leader and she is still the one with authority- but Natlan fights WITH her, not UNDER her. Barely any NPC we meet in battle has a visible vision, so we have to assume most of them are typical civilians. So far, it's Natlan where see the most "ordinary" citizens stand up for their region and beside their Archon. There are scholars, vision holders and trained soldiers, but there are just aa many who are just regular Natlanese.

Excellent video. One discrepancy, if I may: Saying Hine was just Mavuika's memory pulling her out of her endless wait 500 years later, doesn't feel right. If Mavuika totally forgot her mission and everything to the extent of almost losing her own self, then how can a memory pluck itself out to remind the person (their consciousness, that is) about the evening flame that burns away all evil, unless it's done with external means? It's like saying Mavuika's memory reminded Mavuika of her mission because her memory forgot... It doesn't make sense unless you incorporate external factors, like perhaps Hine found a way to reach Mavuika's consciousness within the sacred flame? Hine would know how to get Mavuika to remember things, like the way she plays with Mavuika's hair which is no longer flaming hair. Mavuika would understand what Hine meant and turned her hair into flames as she started again for the sunset.

Perhaps to show you guys how archons often need external help from their closest kin: - Rukkhadevata decided to get rid of herself from Irminsul, but this needed the help of Nahida. - Focalors decided to amass Indemnitium to kill herself, but this needed the help of Furina. - Makoto decided to face certain death and get the seed of the Sacred Sakura to Ei, but this needed the help of Ei. Morax and Barbatos are perfectly fine and not in a hurry to leave; they don't count. So Mavuika receiving external help from Hine is actually in line and fitting, and I would expect the Tsaritsa to have something similar happen as well. (I didn't realize before typing this that all the original archons except Morax and Barbatos (and the Tsaritsa) died in order to achieve their goals.)

This animated short shows how time travelling has a deranging effect on the mind. Furina lived through 500 years herself and was occasionally agitated and driven to tears while having to fake a cheerful face for the Fontainians. Likewise, Mavuika's consciousness lived through 500 years of loneliness and determination, so she likely had equally heavy consequences to deal with. Forgetting and remembering things would not be an issue for Mavuika, but confusion and memory problems after 200 or 300 years would be the ordeal.

I’ll just retell a comment i saw in the short: Basically, Mavuika’s situation seems to be similar to the Chinese myth "Kuafu Chasing the Sun". It’s about a giant named Kuafu who endeavored to catch the sun. From Kuafu's perspective, no matter how many days and nights pass on Earth, as long as he keeps running around the planet and the sun remains in his sight, that "day" never truly ends. In this way, he could spend just "one day" traveling into the future. That may also be why Mavuika never saw the sun set during those 500 years.

bro missed the obvious thing. hine is not actually there to remind her of the mission (i mean she did but that's not her actual role). she's actually waiting for her at the destination, yk her sis cannot live for 500 years, by the time she took a rest it was 499 years after her departure (can be seen from the number sign, ykwim). That means the final destination, mavuika fate is death, however there must be a plot armor that saves her or something like that because the title is "sunset", the Sun (Mavuika) will disappear at night (Night kingdom) then eventually rise again after the night passes. So ig hine is waiting at the end of her journey to change mavuika fate so tabibito can enjoy that giant bakery ride
