I’m from Chicago; born & raised there. As a child in the 80’s in a 4-5 person household with only 1 income, Aldi was all we could afford. All the kids at school used to make fun of my generic fruit snacks & chips but I never starved. When I moved out & got my first place in downtown Chicago, Aldi was a literal life/budget saver. The 2x money back guarantee has ALWAYS been Aldi’s motto. But I have to say I am so glad their quality and variety continues to increase and grow over the years. SHOP ON WEDNESDAYS!!

Chicago girl here too! I remember our shopping trips to Aldi in the early 80's as well. Being from Albany Park we'd go to Aldi on Pulaski n Argyle for most of our groceries and then go to Jewels on Pulaski n Sunnyside for our meats and other good sale items that couldn't be found at Aldi. I especially loved the individual cans of pop...every flavor imaginable and the boxes of freeze pops my stepmom would buy for all of us kids on our block, which were extra special on the summer nights when we'd be sitting on the front porch.

I’ve been shopping at Aldi for several years now. Initially, I went for an avocado sale (they were 10cents a piece!), but I was too much of a brand snob to consider trying much else. I quickly realized two things: First - that the in-season fresh veggies were almost always an amazing price compared to the grocery store. Only occasionally are the sale prices better at the regular grocery store. Second - that the “house” brands of most other items are as good (or better in some cases) than the brand name. Not all, of course, but most.

I bought most of my daughter's grad party (pre-COVID) food at Aldi, saved over 50% on food costs. We did a hotdog bar, with lots of condiments, baked beans, potato salad, chips etc. We priced checked & did taste tests of the more expensive & cheap Aldi hotdogs & Costco hotdogs. The more expensive Aldi hotdogs won over the salty Costco dogs, still way cheaper than Costco too. Buns were ridiculously cheap at Aldi, and tasted fresh-baked. Chips from Aldi. Costco had the sheet cake, cheese cake & large Reser's potato salad. Baked beans, chili and nacho cheese sauce from Walmart. Costco did have great Vegan dogs we purchased for some guests, I'd eat them again. Aldi (and Costco) saved us so much money! Aldi rocks! I wish the nearest store wasn't over 10 miles away. So many good deals here all the time. Always check the Aldi Finds too. Two yrs ago I bought a 4 quart stainless steel, stove top pressure cooker for $39.99! Perfect for a small roast or pulled pork for a smaller family, and no electronics problems like InstaPots. I also bought hubby an upscale, high back, sturdy-armed, storage pockets, foldable chair for $20, it was twice as much at Walmart & Dick's Sporting Goods. It's the best soccer/ outdoor chair we own, he doesn't sink down into & can get out of, with great back support. I should have bought two! Some of my Aldi favs, ALL THE CHEESE, pizzas, artisan lettuce 4 pk, bagged & boxed snacks, salsa, breads, buns, pasta & sauces, salad dressings & croutons, all the dairy, hotdogs (lol), frozen appetizers, meat deals. Yeah, the produce is hit or miss, but overall is getting better. Great video, keep them coming!

My Aldi's ( I have 3 in a 15 minute radius) have had very good produce sections for about the past 3 years. When I returned to aldi as my main shopping location, I found a store with an amazing produce section..I still get some items from dollar stores and target, but my main produce store is aldi. Glad to see your aldi is stepping up too!

Also don't forget to bring your own bags.
@Lucinda_Jackson3 жыл бұрын
Sunflower Baby is right! Unless you want to pay for bags or scrounge for boxes there, you’ll need to bring your own bags. (And you bag them yourself at a long counter just beyond the checkout) Or, do what I do. I keep a couple of laundry baskets in the back of my SUV. Then, when I’ve finished paying, I just wheel the cart with all my loose groceries out to the car and unload the cart into my baskets. Easy to carry into the house and I don’t have to remember a bunch of bags. The baskets come in handy other times, too - they’re way better than the cargo nets at corralling all my bags after any kind of shopping or just wherever I’m going. Things stay put! And Mianlo is right, too - you need a quarter to get a cart. Watch someone else if you’re not sure what to do (or ask - most people are nice!). It’s really just a deposit - when you return the cart and hook it back up, your quarter is returned to you.

I discovered Aldi about 10 months ago through a friend and I LOVE them!!! It's my main store now and I really do love the quality and pricing. I agree about the produce. Aldi is my absolute favorite store -- only 3 miles from my home. In fact, on our trip from upstate New York to Virginia where we are staying with family for a few weeks I researched the closest Aldi store on our way and we stopped to buy nearly $100 in grocery items to take with us. The closest store to our Virginia family is 75 miles away. Love your video

Hughes, there's also a non sugar free sweet chili sauce that has 1 carb per tbps if you avoid sucralose and there's a red pepper hummus that I enjoy on salads or just cubed pork, and they have some balsamic vinaigrette dressings without seed oils, so depending on what you are willing to cost benefit analysis there's some good affordable options.

I have been shopping more and more at Aldi's. You mentioned candles and I also love them here. Compared to buying some from another popular retailer to here this was by far a better buy and better candles The scent throw from them is very good. The meats have also been good buys, desserts, fresh fruits, breads & buns. A few weeks ago they had pints of Sorbet. I wish that they would have these more frequently. They came in Lemon, Black Cherry and Orange, very refreshing. I shop at the newest location in Parma, OH and they do a great job there.
