From my personal experience. Bring a few things. Literally a few. 1. 1 pair of night clothes or a night gown. I was naked giving birth and wore a night gown the rest of the time after I took my first shower after the birth. 2. Flipflops or tennis shoes and socks. Flip flops if its summer. Tennis shoes if its winter. Socks to keep your feet warm. 3. Going home outfit for you and baby. 4. Toiletries. Bring a travel sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. And deodorant. Tooth brush/tooth paste. 5. Snacks and drinks. Any snacks. Anything you and whoever's staying with you likes to eat or drink. Bring enough for 3 days. (The hospital provides meals and drinks, but sometimes you are just thirsty or hungry right in that second.) 6. If you plan to bottle feed for either personal or medical reasons, bring a few cases of the already proportioned infant formula bottles. Just do it. They are on the breast is best thing in hospitals and they DO NOT want to give you any bottles or help you bottle feed in any way. They just dont. Both of my children were born tongue tied and that would have been EXTREMELY helpful to know the first time I went through that. 7. Phones, chargers, and if you like to watch Netflix/whatever bring something to watch it on. 8. Bring your (positive) toughest mindset and attitude. There are nurses and doctors that are great and have a wonderful bedside manner. But there are some that will pressure you to do things that you dont want to do. Dont let them get to you. If it's not nessecary and you dont want to do it, then dont. I wish I had someone to tell me that before I started having babies. Stick to your gut. Stick to your guns. This day is about you and your baby. Period. 9. Bring extra things for your baby that they will not provide you in the hospital. Ex: gas drops, diaper rash cream, baby lotion. A lot of baby products come in travel size. Anything that you think your baby might need, bring it. Because you probably wont need any of it. But if you do, especially if your a first time mom, and you need it, you'll have it. The main priority is to keep that baby comfortable and well taken care of and you and your partner sane. They may look at you like your crazy, but dont let it discourage you. Be prepared so that you don't get blindsided by something that could have been avoided. 10. Bring whatever you want to help you get through. Something comfortable, something to make it feel more like home, something to help YOU. You are about to go through birth and just thinking about it can feel traumatic. One thing that's going to help you feel a little comfy like a robe or pillow or a blanket or your fuzzy house slippers. Just trust me. You're going to feel out of control for a little while and sometimes, you just need something to cling to. And last but not least. Have people present for the birth of your child that are there to support YOU AND YOUR PARTNER. If you choose to have visitors. You want the most important people in your life supporting you, lifting you up, believing in you. If they aren't there to do that, then they dont need to be there. Dont have selfish people stealing precious memories from you, your baby, and the people you love on the most important day of your life. If you dont want someone there, you have every right to tell them not to come.

I just wanted to share I had the best labor nurse ever. I went into preterm labor back in August I was 35 weeks. My nurse's name was Beth, sweetest and most attentive nurse I've ever had. I didn't have my baby at that point thankfully. I went back in at 37 weeks and had to be induced due to preeclampsia, and guess what, I had Beth again! She let me hold onto her and squeeze when I had to get my epidural (contractions were very bad at that point and the anesthesiologist kept messing it up) She helped me so much when it came time to pushing, she had such a calm demeanor that really helped me push through my asthma attacks. I just remember being close to passing out when she put the oxygen on and she looked me in my eyes and let me know I was so close to keep going. Beth was amazing. 😊

I brought my own Always disposable underwear. They were so much more comfortable and you couldn't tell I was even wearing a "diaper" under my clothes. I also brought my own flushable wipes that I just threw away instead of flushing such a large quantity. I loved having my own supplies right there in the bathroom and not having to worry about running out and having to bother my nurses or CNAs for help. Totally not a must have but definitely something I recommend to everyone.

After I had my second all I wanted were these delicious fresh fried donuts that are made locally so my mom got me a half dozen. My nurses asked me if I ate any “real” food when they saw them on my night stand. I mean they weren’t mean but seriously?! I just pushed out a 9lb 5oz baby with absolutely no medication and it was back labor. So don’t judge me on my food selection. It was pure comfort. I didn’t care about the nutrition.

@victoriad.89345 жыл бұрын
Brittany Wampler after I had my son, my sister brought donuts as a celebration type thing. I was so exhausted after being in labor for 18 hours and then having an emergency csection that I didn’t even feel like eating but a doctor came in and commented that I was already heavy and had no business eating a donut. Between exhaustion and hormones I turned into a mess, my feelings were so hurt.

This is honestly really comforting. I am to have my first baby in April and I have never even really been around pregnant women nor have I had talks about anything that comes with it even from those who have already had kids. It's nice to know I don't have to freak out over every little thing which so far has included what I should consider in a hospital bag. I appreciate that you take the time to give information that most first time mom's wouldn't think of because we're so focused on having the baby and not the steps in between getting pregnant and giving birth. "Small" things such as what to pack in the hospital bag tends to get overlooked quite a bit, that or we overthink it and bring the whole house with us. It's nice to know we can keep it simple but necessary and ideal for comfort.

For me the “comfort” items were those 5$ travel sized bottles of: body spray, body wash, and moisturizer from bath and body works. I used the Moonlit path scent, which is light. This made me feel more human after giving birth. A quick shower with the body wash, a spray, a little lotion, deodorant, my own panties, and comfy clothes. No make up, just some chapstick hair tied in a pony tail. 👍🏼

Sophie Eldridge bring everything 😂 in a ‘labour bag’: nightdress with button top for birthing, any snacks and hygiene things u might need in labour, I bring a big pair of incontinence pants (tena) as they hold more than mesh pants and a pad and are way more comfortable, for baby a hat, bodysuit, sleepsuit and nappy. Other than that, for baby: a pack of size 1 nappies, water wipes, Vaseline (apply before their first poop for easy cleaning) (some people don’t like the mineral oil, I’m sure there are alternatives), cellular blanket, a swaddle blanket, muslin squares for burp cloths, cotton wool pads for cleaning baby with water. I take 3 more bodysuits and sleepsuits and hats. For me, a dark colored towel for hair & body, all the toiletries/face products/hair/makeup that you like. Try and get miniature sizes. A pack of the tena pants. 2 pairs of loose dark pjs that you can nurse in (if you’re nursing) A plastic bag for soiled clothes. Hairdryer, straighteners, hairbrush, water bottle (if you are nursing you will drink a tonne and don’t have to go looking for water as often), slides (sandals) for the shower, slippers, light robe, sweets (get me thru the night), a pacifier (if you think you will use it), lansinoh nipple cream, you might not need breast pads as milk doesn’t really come in til day 3-4. Arnica tablets. A simple trick - your lady bits will BURN when you pee. Bend yourself as far forward as you can and squat over the toilet. Literally touch the ground. The pee will flow straight out and not touch your burny bits 😬. Bring stool softeners and take them to avoid the horror of a painful bowel movement. I think that’s all that’s in my case! Good luck with your delivery! 👍🏻😘

Sophie Eldridge they would give you a hospital gown but they are completely open at the back which is not great if you are doing anything except lying on your back! You could always double up and wear one backwards but I got a cheap nightshirt in dunnes in dark grey which will cover all the necessary bases. No, they don’t give peri bottles. I think there was a bidet shower head in the bathrooms which will do the same thing. I got peri bottles on amazon v cheap. Dermaplast isn’t available in Ireland and you can’t ship aerosols from the states. My SIL brought it to me from NYC so someone might be able to bring it to you? Jessica Butler I can tell you it really isn't as dramatic and terrible as people say or think it is , and all the stuff to prepare at home like diy's people suggest, if your in the US usually the hospital will provide that for you to take home and also one thing no one ever mentioned to me is that you might feel itchy down there after and it's normal but you are also more susceptible to infections after like I was itchy but it just didn't seem right and the my OB nurse was like it's Normal but I had a yeast infection 😕 Also know the symptoms of post partum depression and call your OB doctor immediately and it can happen at any time after having your baby it may not be immediately after and can be some months down the road

I just had my first baby 3 weeks ago. My best advice to you is don’t panic and simply GO WITH THE FLOW OF THINGS! Don’t go into labor with high expectations because you never really know what might happen. Also keeping a positive mind is the best thing for a calm labor.. and don’t hesitate to get an epidural I got mine when I realized my legs wouldn’t stop shaking with every contraction and honestly it was the best thing I could’ve done.. DO SQUATS and FROGS POSE (in bed) The deeper the squat the better, and rock side to side while doing them. I had the fastest labor and I thank these stretches because I did not walk at all during my pregnancy. And don’t over pack your bag. I took one bag with what I thought I’d need and I literally only used my going home outfit and the baby’s outfit. But do pack snacks! Don’t overthink it to much you’ll do great!!! Good luck and congratulations!! 🎊🍾🎉

In my 40s, and not having a child but popped over to look at your videos after Emily Noel mentioned you and I am so pleased with both of you. It’s fantastic to hear women/mothers telling expectant moms that they need to be flexible, because you do not know what direction the birth might take. (I was a 911 dispatcher for years and know that’s right. I’m the one that that would instruct you to tie a shoestring around the umbilical cord because you’ve just McGyvered it during your rapid 3rd delivery). In the mid - late 1980s and 90s we saw an explosion of books for expectant mothers that were absurd and seemed to be written by highly anxious first time moms (though they sometimes were not). Write out an extensive birthing plan, follow it to the letter, beat yourself up if you could not, only eat quinoa, kale chips and tofu (I like all, but come on)... The breast feeding only hysteria has been terrifying enough. I think most women would rather breast feed if they can. This is perfectly natural, works out for many, but is not a travesty if it doesn’t. Over the last 3 decades there has been an explosion of stories about mothers almost dying because some hospitals wouldn’t give them needed meds, due to complications, because you can not breast feed while taking them OR the mother refused because it went against her birth plan. This was not the case in 1970s, when formula was presented a great option for babies not getting enough nutrition (there has been some increase in babies starving due to breast feeding only initiatives), moms having issues supplying milk (again, it happens sometimes and you have to be flexible) or working moms with a lot on their plate. To me the most important thing is mom being alive and baby being able to eat/not starving. The BFO initiative resulted in women buying breast milk from Cambodia from impoverished women who have children with an incredibly high rate of malnutrition because some boob marketed the breast milk as pure due to a diet high in fish and rice. My second cousin was just in the hospital for a blood clot in her lungs soon after delivery and doctors were only willing to try one med that she could breast feed on. Thankfully it worked. What if it wouldn’t have? More realistic and reasonable conversations have been need.

I've been told I'm crazy but when I go to the hospital my husband will literally clean everything. He will lysol wipe the floors, toilet, shower, anything I would touch and then does it again. We learned that I act crazy in labor and once I walked in the room, took 4 steps and got naked and laid on the floor LMAO. I still wear shoes in the shower and socks and slippers on the floor but it's just one of those things. My hubby also bring a small backpack cooler to keep drinks in for me because my midwife allows food/drinks during labor but the hospital doesn't so we gotta sneak it (even tho I only take a bite or two of yogurt or fruit and Sprite but it helps keep my energy when going all natural). I also being gifts for everyone. I order some favs from Etsy like some special necklaces ect, my nurse always becomes my bestfriend because they do 99% of everything and are amazing! I'm due with my 4th boy in a few weeks!!!

What I did and I highly reccomend: #1 I have major medical concerns (heart issues) I made a quick and specific list of my issues the risks and triggers and printed it to set by the nurses computer in l&d. This helped me tremendously! Yes all that stuff is on the computer yes they read it but its clinical and not as direct sometimes (my chart didn't say that if you sit me up after laying down and do it too fast I'll faint but my paper did) When it was time to push the nurse came in said "let's sit you up" saw the note and got another nurse in to help incase something happened. And it did. My bp tanked and they already had everything right there in the room because she was reminded. Normally I would have done that myself but I was not in that headspace. I packed a bag specific for l&d this should be really simple something that one person can carry in one go. In this bag I had a water bottle, charger, small bluetooth speaker, paper and pencil (I draw/write a lot) and stress ball (my husband rolled it over my back to help it felt SO GOOD) I only brought my l&d bag into the hospital until the baby was born. After we got moved to recovery I had a duffel with hubby's clothes/ toiletries, my clothes (nursing bra, 1 gown, 1 pj set, robe, a set of clothes to go home and poise underwear (just in case I didn't like the hospital stuff), house shoes and socks) mine and my husband's pillows, my favorite blanket, and two sleepers for the baby and dress for pictures for the baby. If you think you need it but not sure you will it's okay to pack it and leave it in the car. You DEFINITELY don't want too much especially at one time because you really want your focus to be on yourself, your baby and celebrating and enjoying your new family. The hospital I went to provided diapers, wipes, clothes for the baby, hat for the baby, blankets, underwear and pads for me.

Here in Norway it's recommended to have a hospital bag packed at all times. Just to grab and go. So this is so good to know for everyone. I' ve got my own hospital bag. Just need to put in my hairbrush, charger, headphone and cell phone. By the way. I will recommend to bring a joga mat. Once I've got a room with oil on the floor. The oil was gone but the floor was so slippery. The joga mat saved my life. Hugs from Norway.

I recommend going online to your hospital's website and looking up their "what to bring to hospital" list. My hospital had a short list of everything that I will need to bring for both me and baby and it specifically says that none of these things will be provided by the hospital. I'm giving birth in Ontario so we don't get a lot of freebies, except the birth itself.

Things I wish I had packed in my hospital bag: -my own nightgown/hospital gown for laboring. Yes, the hospital provides one and yes, it will get dirty, but hospital gowns are so uncomfortable to me with having to tie them closed. I wish I had been able to wear something that didn't have to be tied closed at the back. -If I had known the hospital was going to have me pump, I also would have brought a Medela pumping bra. It is not fun to try to hold the flanges yourself while pumping! - This one is silly, but if you have a grabber thing to pick things up off the ground when you can't reach them you might want to bring it, especially if you have a C-section and it's hard to bend down. -A breastfeeding pillow would also be helpful, and if you have a C-section the Boppy might be uncomfortable for a few weeks, so keep that in mind. -A Velcro swaddle because it can be difficult to swaddle with blankets

This is great. I and 34 and 1/2 weeks with my 5th but it's always good to double-check that I haven't forgotten something. What I do is I keep a cell phone charger and a pair of slippers socks in my purse at all times. my reasoning for this is because these are the two things that you really need. You need your cell phone charger so you can contact people and it's like you said you don't want to walk around Barefoot. But when you first go up to labor and delivery unless your water has broken or you are scheduled for an induction you don't know for sure that they are going to admit you. You may be in labor but you might not be progressing fast enough so you don't want to bring everything in with you only to be sent home 45 minutes later.
