What I love about Ryan and Colin's chemistry is how they set each other up for a joke. They do it in a way to try and trip one another up, but because they're so quick with their improv they come up with some cracking responses

Hate to burst your bubble, but they had rehearsal’s for the show and then often did multiple takes & rewrites of a scene if the first take didn’t get enough laughs. I mean, they were great comedians, don’t get me wrong, they just weren’t mind readers.

And yes, it could be that he used the alarm clock gimmick during one of the other takes. Regardless, as you pointed out, it's still hilarious and their timing is often spot on.

Something I forgot until just now, but during that very same sketch Wayne and Brad also had a hilarious moment of their own when they tried to sing opera while gargling water, and Wayne had just gotten started singing and choked on the water. So Brad covered for him while Wayne tried not to die.

It missed the point of the English version and didn't capture the importance of the relationship between Tim and Dawn (Jim and Pam in the US version). The UK version was poignant. I can barely watch the US version. The only time the US version was really worthwhile was with James Spader's run - his comedic style was very different and a great contrasted two the rest of the cast. James Spader made me laugh, the rest of the cast didn't do anything for me.
