10 Times The Pawn Stars Scammed Customers...
Win the Comeback Central Giveaway: / @sharkcenter
I'm sure most of you are at least familiar with the ridiculous "reality" tv show Pawn Stars. It's a "reality" show, so that helps as well. And then you get to see all sorts of neat items like in Storage Wars, so this show does have a lot going for it. When it first came out in 2009, it quickly became the \ highest-rated show, and the staff of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop became bona fide celebrities. However, after seven years and 12 seasons, it's time for the show to wind down. Like any other long-running TV series, Pawn Stars has become a hollow shell of its former self, and we're here to tell you why. Pawn Stars is one of the biggest successes in reality television. The daily goings-on at the massive, family-owned Gold & Silver Pawn in Las Vegas combines the gruff family dynamics and good ol' boy vibe of Duck Dynasty with the treasure-hunting thrills of Antiques Roadshow and the potential for scandal that goes along with everything in Sin City. Join me as I show you Times The Pawn Stars Scammed Their Customers, Don't forget to like the video, as well as subscribe, so you don't miss the next one. Which do you think is the most interesting? Let me know in the comments below.
You are not required to comment to win the giveaway distributed in the video. It is ONLY a recommendation. You must have a twitter under the same username of youtube in order to qualify to get in contact with you. For more information on giveaways refer to youtube’s contest policies: kzbin.info?q=ht...

@@troyroyce9668 except that's not the same thing at all. An electricity company is providing you a service, you are the buyer. Completely different dynamic. Go to a pawn shop to sell an item and you are the seller, it's a completely different dynamic. If they offer you a price you don't like you don't sell. It's as simple as that. How is offering a low offer any different to when these guys come in asking twice as much? You're asking the pawn shop to give you what it's worth, take on all the risk/cost trying to find a new buyer and the cost of selling online/at auction? You clearly don't live in the real world. I will repeat for the hard of hearing; Accepting a low ball offer is not a scam or a rip off because you are under no obligation to accept the offer.

@@andyscoot43 Some people are idiots and have never stepped foot in a pawn shop. They also forget that when they turn around and sell it (if it's not stolen and the cops don't take it leaving them with nothing), they sell the items for much less than it's worth. If they buy something worth $100, they'll probably try to pay about $40 because they are going to sell it for around $75-$80. And a 50% profit is right around the sweet spot for a pawn shop to make good money.

I never understood how someone could be called a scammer just because a seller is too incomprehensible about an item he is selling. They are free to say no and walk away. As well as do their own research on the item. If someone is selling you an IPhone for $1 you don’t say well let me give you $1000. That’s just illogical. Learn to use your own brain.

It's really not a scam. Anyone who sells anything at a pawn shop has to know before going in that they're going to get low balled. You're selling to a salesman who's been selling longer than you. Also, you want the one thing that a salesman is never going to just give away; money. You're selling an item that he's going to have to sell to someone else and while it might be valuable, unless it is bought by the right person or people, it's like buying stocks; the value can fluctuate. Are they bad people? To some degree, yes, but so are you for trying to sell something that's worth a lot of money to a salesman. You'll get more from eBay than you will at a pawn shop. It'll just take longer to sell, which means you're selling it more for the convenience of quick cash which a pawn shop will accommodate you on. Moral of the story, if you have something worth X amount of dollars, if you sell it fast you're selling for cheap. Instead, keep it until someone comes to you and you become the salesman.

Pawn Stars isn't real. I learned that you sign a contract saying that you want to sell something and if they accept that deal then you will come to the store a month later after they do some research on it. That's why they know so much about it when it comes through the door. They then film it pretending like they have never seen it before.

EXACTLY! And the fact that the expert states the value in front of the seller (rather than behind closed doors) is very transparent... also thinking about storing that cannon- takes a lot of space vs a coin of the same value ... I mean most ppl run a business to make money... what I would consider a scam would be if the pawn stars knew the value was around $40,000 and were like I’ll give you $100... but also the seller has responsibility to do their own research on the value ... and again there is no obligation to sell- they can walk away and sell it at an auction house, marketplace, etc

It's a business after all. They do take risks and in some cases they made losses on items they bought. Some items require conservation/storage fees and others need to be restored and documented before they can sell them. Also, when they put them on auction, they need to pay a fee on them so yeah... If you wanna keep your shop open in Vegas, you need to maximize profit.

I hate this argument. Just because something is a "buisiness" doesn't justify unethical practices. It's also a business decision to pay workers impoverished wages. Does that make it right? The slave trade was a business too. That argument is invalid in any justification of ethics.
@osumanaaa9982
@osumanaaa9982 2 жыл бұрын
@@jakeplumber1373 it's not really unethical to try and make a deal with someone. In some cases they actually offered more money than the seller was asking for because they knew it was worth more. The thing is, sellers shouldn't expext much from a pawn shop anyway. A fair price will change depending on where you sell your item. There are also many times when the item couldn't even bring the money it was bought for. And I mean, seriously? Comparing a pawn shop to a slave trader ? These kind of pawn shops don't deal with illegal stuff and give access of their databae to the police to help them catch stolen items.

@Real Dudes Party Nude There is not a law anywhere on the planet that says you need to pay someone full price when buying something. Based on what you are saying I should be able to walk in to a fish store and sell them a $4.00 fish for $4.00 then they should sell it for $4.00. On a $4.00 fish we charge a shop $1.00. When we drop off large (expensive) fish we get anywhere from 25%-50% of the retail. We also own a Vape juice company. Or wholesale is about 33% of retail. When the shops sell the E-Juices they get a very nice mark up. We wholesale to fish stores making us one of their distributors. We wholesale to Vape stores we are 1 of their Distributors. So when you walk in to a pawn shop you become in effect one of their distributors. They can not just pick up a phone and say Hey send me 10X used Rolex (well in theory there is likely places they can do that) 3 rare pieces of art, and your Grandmothers used panties. You go in to business to make a profit. Sometimes you hit a home run and some times you strike out. But paying people assumed retail is always a strike out and a great way to be ouot of business as fast as the bank runs to 0. It is pretty easy to tell who here is a 9-5 person that will never be in business for them selves and if they do will either figure it out or go out of business pretty fast.

This guy doesn't know what a "scam" is. This is a pawn shop. They have to make a large enough profit on it for it to be worth buying. That is usually around 20%-50% of the actual worth. High ticket items they often sell at auctions which means they have to pay the auction house, pay the owner, and still have enough left over for it to be worth buying. If selling in-house, they can buy for more but they still need to make a lot of money. And remember, when you buy at a pawn shop, you're not paying retail. You're getting it cheaper than you would from a dealer or a shop. So, say something is worth $10,000. They manage to buy it for $4,000. Well, they are probably going to price it around $8,000 or so because pawn shops run on getting things out of the door as fast as possible. For a few reasons. The risk of buying stolen items, they like to sell things that are big ticket items for a thief like jewelry and electronics, right away. So, they will do everything they can to sell them right away (like lowering the price). See, if the police come to see if they have the item, (they have to enter everything they buy into a police database) if they already sold it, they don't lose money. If they still have it, the cops take it, and the shop is out of the money they paid. Sure they can get restitution from the criminal but really, that doesn't usually happen and if it does, it happens very slowly. Also, you have to remember that they are there to make money. It's not a charity. If you come in with something you know nothing about and hope to get a high price, you're an idiot. You should know what your item is worth before you sell it. And, if you actually want to get the most out of it, you sell it on the private market or take it to an auction yourself. These people just want to go gamble. The pawn shop takes away the hassle of having to get the word out and actually having to make the sale. So, that's worth a lower bid. I mean, think about it, they have to keep the lights on, pay everyone that works there (including jewelers and security that have to be paid well), make sure the shop makes a profit and then still have something left for themselves. These aren't scams. If I don't know you, and you come to me with a laptop you're trying to sell, I'm offering you like $30. I don't care if it's brand new and worth $1,000. We would haggle from there. I don't understand how the person that made this video doesn't understand the first thing about pawn shops. Some people.
