10 Tips for Career Counseling from a Professional

While career counselling is usually missing in our society, career is something with which the future of not only students but also their families is attached. What do you want to become is a question that everyone asks, but we usually answer with cliches like doctor, engineer or CSP. However career counseling involves bigger questions, like one's aptitude, one's academic background, etc. Ms. Fatima Batool explains how a person can look ahead into careers or professions that secure more income and freedom than the government jobs in Pakistan. FPSC and other commissions do announce jobs, but it is not possible for everyone to qualify for these jobs.

Well, for better writing, read the best, finest writers (in the area you like). I personally love history, so I have all sorts of books on the subject. Pick an area, and buy the best books available. Now make it a habit to read a writer daily, and write whatever you have understood. While writing ideas inspired by the original, you will automatically copy the vocabulary as well as the style of the writer. As a student I used to (unknowingly) copy Wasif Ali Wasif. Read different writers so that you may not get stuck on the style of one writer. From time to time just sit down and write your speculations on different subjects. Writing is a skill which develops with time and effort and gets polished every time you write something. I still use a pencil to write as it is what I am used to off. So, just keep reading and writing, and you will thank me very soon! :-)

Ws, well, you may start a degree like M.Phil or PHD in a field that you love most. Cross cultural research is very common in social sciences and humanities, so you may pick Literature (I'd prefer English), History, Education, Sociology, etc. During your course work, you will be given multiple assignments, and your target should be to write them properly. Also, you may focus on picking a topic for your thesis which is relevant to your society/area of interest, and while writing it, try to take out as many research papers as you can. Keep sending your abstracts to different agencies/journals/departments/conferences, and after few rejections, some corrections, your work will start getting published. The road to success is paved by consistency.

Ma'am I am doing CA from last 8-9 months. I chose this profession to contribute to the economy at a macro level!! But when I entered this profession, I got to know that it is a narrow field, dealing with the Accounts and their treatment so on. This was my fault, that I did not do proper research about CA. (1) Can you please suggest me whether I have to continue this and stay within touch with the global economy or (2) leave this profession and start BS economics from PU. PS: Admissions are open and I have sufficient aggregate to take admission.

LLB will be useless not only in CSS but also as an analyst. You may also pick subjects like Criminology, Islamic Jurisprudence, International Law in CSS exams.

Should I prepare for written part? As the written part may be announced soon in oct 2023. And one more question, Should I appear in CSS 2024 as my first attempt or 2025 attempt as my first attempt? Linguistics has scope in schools (and research). Universities, however, prefer literature to linguistics. Also, if you are preparing for lecturer paper, you must remember that 80% questions are from literature and 20% from linguistics; so you must study literature anyway.
