I’ve only been airbrushing a couple years. Your videos were extremely helpful in overcoming some of my initial issues. By far my biggest problem was what I thought was tip dry. After considerable frustration I figured out that I was getting very small paint chunks off the bottle caps. It only takes a piece much smaller than a grain of sand to plug up. After getting fastidious about keeping the caps clean and thinning paint correctly I virtually never have tip dry. After dispensing paint immediately wipe the top with a paper towel. That wet paint you see on the towel could have dried and clogged your brush Thanks for the most excellent videos and all your help

This video make me sub your channel. Thank you! :) I'm "casual" airbrush painter and i have been using craft paints, mainly water based acrylic paints. I have to try those proper paints, because those craft paints are not "fine" enough. Craft paints are kinda ok if using short period of time, for example: Doing highlights to a 3D-printed model, but when tip drys and clogs start to happen, you really have start to clean deeper than just the tip of the needle. That grainy effect happens pretty naturally with craft paints, and i like it, so there is that atleast. :'D
@theartworkshop28 күн бұрын
thanks! I hear you on that. A craft paint can certainly get the job done. I've sprayed many different types of paint through my airbrushes over the years. Hey you got the new Infinity already 🎉! Love to see your feedback about this AB. My personal feeling is that it atomizes as good as a Micron. Its trigger response isn’t as instant as a Micron, but still consistent and comfortable to work with. It offers narrow spray pattern similarly as a 0.15 Infinity. But weirdly I found the spray pattern of the normal ver. becomes narrower when the pressure comes to 35 PSI, and the Squidma ver. doesn’t even spray the paint at all at 30 PSI. Perhaps there’s an issue with the aerodynamics in its design.
@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
I ordered it day 1 of the presale! Just recieved it a few weeks ago so I'm still getting the hang of it. I haven't tested it at higher pressures yet, but I will get to it. I've been enjoying using it with reduced paint at lower pressures around 15 or so. It's a very interesting airbrush. video on it next week!
@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
You are 100% right about this. There seems to be a point right around 34-37 psi where the spray pattern narrows. If I go higher or lower in pressure, the spray pattern returns to normal. Very strange! I've seen some excellent performance at lower pressures. Very good work from you finding this one!
@8allan4632 ай бұрын

Hi thanks for the video I tried using high quality acrylic colors in tubes, mixed them with distilled water alcohol and glycerin then filtered through the filter of the Covid masks. It works. My question: is it possible that additives from nonspecific airbrush colors could damage the airbrush?
@theartworkshopАй бұрын
I doubt it will damage the airbrush, but some pigments should not be sprayed for safety reasons. I recommend going with an airbrush specific paint. It will make everything so much easier for you! No need to add glycerin. Just use the reducer that the manufacturer recommends and you'll be good to go. Wishing you all the best.

Excellent video, as always. I have an H&K Ultra 2024, and the nozzle cap is enclosed to prevent damage. The problem is, I cannot seem to get at it to clean it to avoid tip dry. Any suggestions?
@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
A round synthetic paint brush works great for that. Wet it with some water or cleaning solution and you'll easily be able to clean tip dry off with the needle protection cap on. After cleaning, remember to point the airbrush in another direction from your work and press down on the trigger to blow off any of that excess cleaner from the needle.
@TryptychUK2 ай бұрын
@@theartworkshop Any reason why the brush should be synthetic?
@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
@@TryptychUK No, any brush is fine! It's just because synthetic brushes are inexpensive. The brush is going to get beat up cleaning out a nozzle cap. You wouldn't want to use a winsor newton series 7 for this.

@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I use what the paint manufacturer recommends with their paint line. Unfortunately I don't have much experience with vallejo paints. But they are a well established company, so I would read the instructions on the bottle and reduce with what they recommend. If they say to use their thinner, that's what I would use. I would not use their reducers with another company's paint line though.

Any idea what that could be. Also thank you for your videos just in general especially the videos like these they are so informative
@theartworkshop2 ай бұрын
Could be a few things. It could be the paint that you are using. I would check to make sure that you are spraying at a pressure high enough to atomize the paint. I would also check to make sure that your paint is not too thick, and that your needle tip is clear of tip dry. Do the water test at 25 psi or so to see if your airbrush is working properly. Then I would bump up your PSI to a higher than normal pressure (say 35 psi or more) and see if the airbrush can atomize the paint. Then you can drop it back to 25-30 and see if it's still working. Best to play around with those pressures and reductions to find the sweet spot.

I have a question for you. Sometimes my Iwata double action airbrush gets sticky with the control button, rather than popping back up when my finger lifts. Sometimes I even have to pull the button back up. Super frustrating. I bend over backwards to keep my airbrush clean, and airbrush lube doesn’t seem to help. Can you tell me what I need to do?

This happens every few years to me as well. Simple fix! What I do is remove the spring valve assembly from the bottom of the airbrush and clean it out with some mild soap and water. Then I dry it off and let it fully air dry , then reassemble it back into the airbrush. This is usually all that is needed to remove any grime and fix the sticky trigger issue. The smallest amount of airbrush lube can be used on that trigger piston to lubricate the o ring, but this is rarely needed. Here's a video I made on it- hope it helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp-6qqmjlNGHm5Y

I’m curious because I follow artist like hajimesorayama and bern foster they make retro aesthetic and they use airbrushes are there any brands that use professional paint for photo realism or any could because I use jacquard paint

6b , another cause of that is the painting it's too dense. You can use that for create some granite effect, but in general you can solve it adding a little more water...

Spidering is my biggest enemy. I want to work with thin paint so I can build-up colour gradually and I also want to work close so I can be precise. It is so hard to avoid spidering as a result, even with delicate trigger control.

You'll get it! I'd recommend practice on a test sheet or panel at lower pressures. You'll eventually find that sweet spot with your paint for detail without the spidering or a grainy spray pattern.

No single use plastic for me.. Buy glass lab bottles to store mixed paint for later.. You can clean them out later and they last. So works out cheaper. I also mix paint in a glass, shot glass. Doing my bit for the environment.

If you don't get a quick disconnect, you might just quit the hobby
