I made my own a while back, it isn't very good. I will give your design a try, it does look really good and I have most of the parts I can use again from mine. One thing I did do that I might keep is use a clear perspex 'window' on the roof, this allows me to angle my painting lamp directly down into the booth and swing it back out of the way when I am painting my minis.

Beautiful design! I've been looking at commercial booths and other DIY booths and I think yours is among the best. I might customize a bit and use some corrugated plastic instead of the cardboard for the structural walls, but otherwise I'll be following this plan pretty closely!

Hi, great video. Is it necessary to get the air outside? I plan to use this in my garage. So if the filter catches the paint fume, what’s the use?
@TS-uy8pn
@TS-uy8pn Жыл бұрын
It's best used in a clean environment. Because it's an open front there can't be an intake filter and particles will be drawn in when the exhaust is on. More to the point, the filter type shown essentially removes overspray. Any vapor from the application will be exhausted to the box exterior (like 99.9% of spray booths). Anything you don't want to breathe should be directed outdoors.

I tried to remake this but ran into an issue. I used a reversed bathroom ventilation fan for the airflow but I'm not getting any suction from it. The fan moves a lot of air on it's own but once I attach the hose and snap it to the booth, it feels like it loses all airflow. I've been told that the fan needs to be attached to the box itself rather than through the hose but your booth seems to have plenty of suction without having the fan at the booth. Does anyone know what my issue could be?

Good video, but I would have liked to have seen the actual ventilation installation instead of just jumping over it. Just saying, "i let professionals do it" doesn't really give any info and loses a bit of the "DIY" concept. And that ventilator was over €120.00

@blight1885 9 ай бұрын
If I've been doing my research correctly that fan is rated for about 170 CFM which seems tremendously underpowered for the size of the spray booth

Checking with your friends. I got a ventilation box that was replaced in a friend’s house. He replaced it because it was “old” and “energy hungry”. But it’s still silent and if it can ventilate a three-story house, it’ll probably work for a booth 😅 and it’s free.

Pretty sure that part is left out for liability reasons. His wording definitely makes it seem so that people who do choose to follow this take extreme caution to make sure any paint/contaminants are exhausted from the space/living space to the outside and away from doing harm to anyone.
@Boogie_the_cat
@Boogie_the_cat 7 ай бұрын
@@TacoLibreF-CKYT"liability reasons"? If that was the case, then the video could have shown and explained everything, but put a "do this at your own risk" warning at the beginning. That works even for videos where people show how to make incredibly dangerous things like Jacobs Ladders which use microwave oven transformers that can kill you. I'm sure that your liability excuse is just an excuse, and it was left out of the video due to 1) being expensive 2) the uploader paid someone else to do something they didn't want or know how to do Liability is as simple as a warning that says "this video is for educational purposes, and if you follow it, you have to accept that you are engaged in a dangerous blah blah blah. Talk to a lawyer, it's that easy.

Anyone that is going to build this Please read my comment before buying the boxes. great job, thanks for sharing. One comment or suggestion to anyone who is thinking of building. I am in the middle of building the airbrush booth. What I didnt notice was the boxes you need. Most box's flaps are only half size to cover the opening. In the video , the box wide flap is big enough to cover the whole opening. I had to tape another flap to the large one to make it work. Im not sure where you can find a box like that. I found a heavy duty box at lowes that was twice as thick as a normal box. it cost twice as much too. but it defiantly stronger. for the filter mounts. i use a regular 4" brace and used two small bolts to mount to cardboard. the corner brace was two exspensive to buy 4. perhaps if you find them at a discount store or flea market. I didnt want to pay $6 for 2. as far as the exhausts mount. i doing something totatly different. I will post photo's when Im finish

I'm in the process of building a cardboard paint booth and appreciate the solutions to issues I haven't even realized. But I have one issue; spray paint is going to cover the lights! Or did I miss that? I'm adding a small groove on the top of each box to allow a saran wrap roll to pull thru to keep the LEDs clean. To eliminate the possible build up of paint on the fan blades I'm utilizing the Ventura effect and a recycled computer cooling fan. These are powerful, small and very quiet.

QUESTION: How often does the overspray from the airbrush/spray can find its way on the lights. Do you find you sometimes need to replace the light strips or is that even a problem?
@davidwelch6796
@davidwelch6796 Жыл бұрын
I think that if this becomes a problem it would be simple to mount a sheet of clear Perspex, or similar, below the lights in such a way that it can be easily slid out for cleaning or replacement.

All you'll need is some cardboard boxes, tape and a box cutter. Oh and also this filter, this duct, this extractor fan, an FDM 3D printer and filament, a sheet of MDF, a circular saw workbench and clamps to cut the MDF to size, some magnets, a heat gun, contact cement, wood glue, LED light strips, a soldering iron, wires, a dimmer etc...

some magnets on the dowel and bottom of the edges would keep the plastic in place

The blueprint has some inaccuracies. You can see this in the fact that all of the edges meet. There is no overlap. With that in mind The left trapezoid should have a side that is equal length to one of the top or bottom trapezoids but all of them are different

I have been thinking about building my own spray booth and yours has a similar design that I had in mind. I like the light "whatchamacallit". Do you have a link to an STL for it? The black color made it hard to see the details but I would like to implement it in my spray booth. Thanks again for all your hard work!!!

How does the ventilation work? Do I need to connect it to a window?

If you go to your local scrap yard you might find a over the stove fan and make one of those into a home made spray booth. I have came across a few of them I put one on my metal grinding table to catch the metal dust it seems to work well I have to change the filter often. For painting I'm shire it would work well it sucks the food smoke from the stove top why not paint. Plus they're at the scrap yard tossing it out for a few buck's or they might even give it to you? Stove top fan will work well for a home made booth. I'm shire a card board box with a fan behind it will work too.

How do you get that suction? After adding the airducts the suctions is about zero. It totally fails the hold-paper-test. What fan do you use. I bought Biltema 37 W. It have a 187 m³/h capacity. Feels like I need at least twice that.

I've built a similar cardboard box spray booth and they really do work well. Also doubles as a useful space to store and use your airbrush cleaning gear. *** Cautionary note - be sure to only use a brushless or "spark-less" fan. Many fans (and I think this includes computer fans) have brush motors. You absolutely do not want a spark to ignite an extracted stream of volatile paint vapours. Test (outside the building!) by spraying a cupful of lacquer thinners at the filter. If you don't explode you're good to go :)

Hey do you think you could recommend a fan system that fits those categories you mentioned cause I’m having trouble finding one at a good price, especially that it seems all of them are in the $70-100 range and for those prices I can just buy a pre made booth

@@fenri3261 If I recall correctly I bought an AC current bathroom exhaust fan that was brushless. I'm in South Africa so I can't really say what's available in your country, but I think it was in the $25 price range.

Fans from 90s-00s were "brushed". It's decades that even the cheapest pc fan is brushless. And of course using water-based colours (like most AK, Games, and some vallejo) doesn't need any flammable thinner, just adding water to dilute them. 100% safe.

Looking for something just like this. NYC co-op, u understand. Like the design elements and cardboard is cheap. I will likely see what parts can be made to easily disassemble for storage.. Likely magnets.clamps and luggage locks. BTW, yourself and a few other diy'ers are using "contact cement" wrong. When using it, you coat both sides of the parts to be glued, and let dry. Yes! Let dry. You then carefully align the parts carefully close together, near the exact final position and let the parts "contact" each other. Minor pressure is recommended but not needed. Its what was used before cyanoacrylates became popular. Once the prepared parts were dry, all that was needed was a quick touch for the final bond. Instant fix. Check the label for more instructions 🙂 The for your design.

Hi, I would like to recreate your cabin. Can I use a simple duct fan 100mm 130m3/h for this? this one is a lot cheaper. I also ask myself the question: do I have to make it adjustable if the trigger is too strong? The last question: I want to spray in the room, is the suction sufficient to prevent paint mist in the apartment and do you still use a protective mask? Thank you very much Thorsten
