One tip that works for me is to think about how the weather would affect the plant growth - is there a sunny side of the slope where the flowers grow, a windy mountaintop creating twisted, stunted trees and a sheltered valley with a riverbank where the trees grow tall?

Real glad to see somebody making a note for actually retaining the history of your world. On this town/nation server I've been hosting for like 9 years, we have a Historic Society that has kept, moved, or slightly modified most of the initial or older builds, usually with history inbuilt somewhere and whatnot; every so often something gets demolished or mostly rebuilt, and we keep a piece of it somewhere to still remember what once was, leaving behind some fun archaeological sites every so often. Good stuff to recommend!

@@KotasCorner I'll tell ya another funny one, if you don't mind me your time: we had two brothers once that would majestically grow netherite armor on their bodies if you left them to their vices for an hour, and they were trying enough to get involved, and happened to be homeless and out of work. A local farm needed some hands to help with that year's harvest and storing the crop, so they went over and worked, helped maintain the property, so on, with great success and reward for their time. Being left alone there in trust for a while to keep up the good work, I came back to the server a day later to find that, in their speedyrun nature of play, they had transformed the natural farm into a floating auto-farming terrace, with all the farmers (villagers) imprisoned beneath it for trade. It was a silly incident, especially with the ensuing villager protest and police bust we had after that, but even when things went awry like that, I'm glad to say we made the best of it. (The farm was peacefully restored with the brothers at large...) I hope you enjoy this story too! Keep it up with the great content you make!😄

There's a different KZbinr that does what would be beautiful complex Hardcore builds but all of them are so visually BUSY that it ends up looking like a jumble of stuff on the screen. If everything in a build is detail, then nothing is, and it all washes together into a mass of incomprehensible clutter. I've gotten good ideas from them but watching the videos is honestly kind of visually exhausting.

I always kinda had a feeling that I was supposed to make a build for everything, ig I just needed to hear it. I usually end up building one base that I expand uncreatively whenever I'm building a farm or need a place for my enchanter and then wonder why the world immediatly stops being fun. I've also always been into worldbuilding, though I suck at it because I don't know enough about this world to go off of. I think, when I get a pc that can play Minecraft again, I'll give the worldbuilding a go. Thank you for all the other tips, as well. Great watch overall!

All these tips are actually very good. I was surprised at how simple you made it considering I've overthought the concept of lore and storytelling within my own world. You made that concept much more simplier for me. One thing that keeps me from progressing in my own world, is I feel stuck when it comes to building. I hate the thought of going into creative, testing for hours what works and what doesn't to then just rebuild the same thing in survival. That gets boring to me (sometimes!) I much prefer building on the fly. Only issue is: I think I'm really bad at that. I feel like I have to plan in creative for my builds to be as good as they can be, because if I don't I am never satisfied with the result. This leads to me finding other things in my world to do besides building. This is annoying because I want to build!! I'm stuck in the: I have 0 confidence to do anything on the fly because I know the result, and 0 motivation to preplan in creative because it gets boring. Unfortunately for me this leads to only a negative outcome. A vicious cycle of doing nothing. Would be cool to hear your take on this. You already made something I used to think was hard sound much easier once (this video) let's see if you can do it again! haha. Great video btw. Dropped a sub!

Hi! Have you thought about drawing your ideas? I don’t mean anything crazy - I usually just do a footprint and a small sketch. It helps with getting the shape without having to go block by block in creative. I find it to be awesome for idea development and as a reference when building

And for inside my mointain houses one of my favorite details to add is to dig more into the rock and create caves/ small ravines with lush blocks and putting in windows for spaces that are pretty blan or flat spaces in your mountain house 🤷‍♂️

I'm not really a minecrafter (haven't played for a while), but a lot of these ideas are similar to what I've been doing in my Satisfactory world. I try to have different factory areas be different themes, like a 20GW oil power plant being built as a massive oil rig out at sea, or all my mini-factories in the rocky desert being modular blueprints in an eastern bloc brutalism style, or my current Ficsmas factory being a "build right on the terrain, don't destroy the existing trees, let the forest shape where things go, and no foundations at all" thing in the northern forest, which looks like hot garbo spaghetti but it's _meant_ to look that way.
@KotasCorner

I love that you can carry these concepts cross-game, really they can apply to any kind of sandbox game you want them to. One thing I want to work on is different areas and developing diverse themes like what you seem to have done

@@KotasCorner Figured I should reply from my actual letsplaying channel. And yeah, totally. Satisfactory is both less limited (don't have to build on a grid, most things aren't cuboids) and more limited (less variety of objects) than Minecraft, and it definitely trends toward, well, _industry_ obviously. But within that general category, you can make some pretty spectacular stuff... go glance at /r/SatisfactoryGame some time and look at the feats of architecture that almost rival GoodTimesWithScar in amount of time it had to have taken to make them happen.

i cannot understate how much lore and story does matter when it comes to building an immersive area in minecraft. me and a bunch of friends played on our own smp like server we called Tauland which the land also was named, and we put lore into virtually everything that was built. Mostly every main area had some amount of lore that gave newer players hints to the past of the server, and helped add to the future lore. straight up i mightve copied wilburs camaravan from l'manburg, but it held lore significance due to the fact that i accidentally started one of the losgest conflicts over a dispute at my camaravan. lore tells a story that can hint to the past, present, or future. or even all three, and is in my opinion, essential to making something immersive in minecraft and just makes for a better experience. especially if youre me and have played on roleplay/lore centered smps before and like to write stories for your own worlds and server in free time

Step 2 is funny to me because it implies the best way to have this world be immersive is to take the natural terrain of your base and make it look nothing like the procedurally generated nature outside of your base.

this is a really great video. not to rag on myself, but man, it gets so hard to execute great advice when you never seem to be able to build, even with practice and years of attempts! i wonder if it just doesn't stick in my brain right. maybe i should stop using build tutorials to get out of difficult roofs or struggling to see my builds. im sure someone else feels similar

Building is hard for everyone, I can absolutely understand it just not sticking in your head. My advice is to practice and not be too hard on yourself, the only way you can learn is by trying :)

Great tips and a great video! 💕As I started to play Minecraft more seriously I also learned that with sandbox games lore is key to pretty much keeping you going. Otherwise, it WILL get boring. From my experience, I'd add one more point to it which is to keep the rules in mind but to also break them. Not recklessly but with an intention. For example, in my world, I wanted to make my house a focal point, but then I also kept a lot of negative space around my barn and farms. It looked great from every point but in the end, to create a more immersive and realistic experience I decided to cover it with trees. It added more depth, more mystery and separation, more cozy, at-home feel rather than having this large raw space. And also, as you start walking down the path the big reveal of the barn is even more impressive than having it out in the open to begin with. Also, it was very different, at least for me, cause I was used to building on creative, taking screenshots for Instagram, and calling it a day. The thing is with screenshots, you're always looking for that one, maybe two perfect angles and that's it, you don't have to think that much in "3D" if you know what I mean. Most of the time I didn't even finish the back of a build, cause it was just extra work, while no one would ever see it. I feel like that made me kinda forget that in survival the main perspective is from the ground and it also changed the way I build and plan out my landscapes. I'm sure it will change again once I get my hands on an Elytra haha 🐝 I hope you'll make more tips kinds of videos in the future it was very helpful! ❤😁

Glad you found it useful! I think story and lore should come before everything else, so sacrificing a view or two for the sake of the feeling of a build I completely understand. I built a haunted mansion inside a cave and ran into a similar issue. Getting screenshots or pictures of it was really difficult, so in the end I sacrificed looks for an immersive story and 9/10 I'd do it again.

well done well fucking done..as a expert builder the most important thing i can say is i wish people would stop focusing on just how there build looks and focus on the practicality and functionality of it. you can still make it look nice it will just take a bit longer.. why not make the castle a armory/barracks? or make your base in a village with a wall around it so you can fend of waves of mobs!
@KotasCorner

Yes! It's an open sandbox game so the extent of the creativity of the build boils down to it's imaginary purpose. The more you define the purpose, the more it feeds the creativity of the build!

Thanks a lot! But how/where do i know abt the building styles and themes?
@KotasCorner
@KotasCorner 5 ай бұрын
There’s lots of different ones. Some main styles/themes are Tudor, Tori, modern, or city. They just define the real world styles we mirror as they are some of the easiest to translate into the game. The way I’ve learnt them is by looking at real examples of them and trying my best to bring it into the game. Once you learn more and more about a theme, you start to put your own twist on it and it becomes more of a style.

Your pressumption that immersion comes from there being a story is interesting, but is it true? You need a narrative for there to be a story. We can say you get immersed in music because your imagination costructs a story for you or that melody itself is a narrative. We can also say that playing minecraft without a thought, machinically isn't immersive, but when you allow yourself to "feel" the world, even vanilla new generated world, you can be immersed, because all the information you gain specifies the setting and your narrirative might emerge as being just a human trying to survive in such world. But do we need to be so nuanced about it? Most people don't think narratologicaly about what a story is, so their answer would be that no, it's not story that is immersive about minecraft, but the world and setting. Idk, you made me think. At first I thought you were false out of lazy scripting, but now I can see there being something to ponder about. Inb4 comments like "bro wrote a whole essay 🤓👆": you are the problem. Stop disappointing your mom, raise the bar above living by the lowest instincts.
@KotasCorner
@KotasCorner 5 ай бұрын
I'd say as humans, it becomes near impossible to approach anything without undertones of story narrative being present. Even in basic actions like punching a tree there emerges a linear progression akin to narrative structure. We don't realize it, but everything we do can be taken from the perspective of telling a story. The very act of existing means there is something to narrate. With this video, I was trying to present ways for people to better understand their feelings of immersion toward things they watch on KZbin, and realize there's a story being told in everything. When we view our worlds as 'just the setting,' we completely eliminate any deeper connections that we could form with them. What is Star Wars without the galaxy far far away? Harry Potter without Hogwarts? Great writers always develop setting as another character in the narrative, and when it's just you and your world, the only characters are you and the world you create. I argue you cannot become immersed in a world you do not add any deeper meaning or development to.
