Great tips! My daughter could not get enough of stories, I read and read till I knew every word by heart, and I ended up losing interest. Now I'll rethink my attitude

I've totally dozed while reading aloud. I feel my head falling, send the kids to play, put the book in my lap and pass out. 😴

Thank you very much for this video and the valuable advice on this important element of learning: Reading Aloud: for me the most important is Number 6: practice with stories you love! and have a meaningful message. Best of wishes to all!

Yes, i have fallen asleep and even started lucid dreaming during a read-aloud. It had been a long day 😅

Hahahaha! I literally fell asleep a few days ago while reading. We had had a rough day the day before (just life things), and I couldn’t keep my eyes open to save my life.

I have definitely fallen asleep while reading, but this usually happens when I am pregnant.❤Should read aloud be limited to 10 minutes like other Charlotte Mason lessons? I typically just read a chapter. I can’t figure out why my kids are hating to be read to. I try to do all of the things in this video and choose books carefully , but my kids act like I am torturing them.😢

This is a great question! In early elementary school, no subject should be longer than 20 minutes and many will be shorter. If your students are able to listen for 20 minutes you can do so, however if they are struggling then definitely meet them where they are and shorten the reading. It sounds like you have tried a lot of great strategies to help engage them and that is wonderful. How old are your children? If they are old enough to have a conversation about it, you may ask them outside of reading time how they feel about it and what they like/dislike about it. We all as people can relate to the feeling of wanting to do what we want right now and not what we should, so perhaps it is that they are anxious to get to another activity? One other idea is to help them by giving them something to hold in their hands or manipulate or taking your book outside to read in the fresh air (weather permitting). Another idea would be to choose mealtimes or right before bed for your family read aloud.

Your videos are strong. Introducing contemporary editing styles might attract a larger audience and increase engagement.
