Pro Tip for shutter speed in harsh lighting: If you tack on a ND filter (neutral density filter) either a rectangular one or a circle one, on the lens of your camera, they both do AMAZING at allowing you to shoot at a low f stop while keeping your shutter speed where it most naturally belongs. Some ND filters can be expensive, but others can be cheaper and definitely still a great piece to the camera bag. For example, I recommend the Urth x Gobe ND filters. They come in all different sizes and from my couple of months of filming with it, I have not experienced any tint change or double layering that is common in other cheaper filters. I have 3 of these, they are circular VARIABLE ND filters, so I can go from 1 - 8.66 f/stops which is HUGE! All for, get this... $50-60. Such a steal. Definitely recommend.

@@jason9474 Likely not. The issue you are having is probably caused by shooting with your electronic shutter rather than your mechanical shutter. The mechanical shutter is when you physically hear the shutter click. Try that out instead of using the electronic (silent) shutter.

Can I ask you a question. I’m a newb to sports videography so I hope this doesn’t sound bone-headed. At the 5:51 mark when you’re talking about shooting horizontal or vertical. I am particularly interested in the footage you’re showing in the background with the guys running drills. My question is this…are you using a tripod to get those smooth movements and how are you keeping them in frame without zooming in and out. It looks as if you’re using locked on stabilization method but I’ve really been intrigued in all the football videos I’ve seen where the player is running toward the camera and they stay in frame the whole time and there is no zoom movement from the lens, if you could explain that I would really be grateful. I want to learn that technique. Thank you

Can you specify what kind of shots you are looking for when you switch to 24 FPS vs shooting the majority in 60 FPS? Are there specific sport related actions that would make you use 24 over 60?

Hello Saul, I purchased the Sony a6400 and love it. The purpose of my purchase was for my son (16) and plays on a National Basketball Team based in Chicago. I wanted to capture his in game plays, highlights, photos, etc. I gotta tell you this video was super helpful. By chance do you have any tutorials on how to properly cut and edit videos? Thank you and keep inspiring the masses! Peace

Hey JeanPaul! Congrats to your son for playing on the national team level! I'm sure it's just the beginning of an exciting career. I unfortunately don't do editing tutorials; everyone has a unique style when it comes to video editing and is so subjective that I like to encourage my audience to experiment on their own to see what they like. But if you're looking for just the basics of video editing there's a lot of tutorials on KZbin you can find. Justin Odisho and Max Novak are 2 youtubers with AMAZING tutorials. My channel focuses more on the industry, relationship building, business and general theory of videography and photography, not so much technical. Best of luck! Any other way I can be of help don't hesitate to reach out.

hey! do you think I would be able to get the same video quaility with a Canon RP. I just bought this camera but thinking about selling to go with sony. Should I just use my canon for now or make the switch. If so, which sony would you reccomend with a good lens for sports video (football and basketball)

Hello Saul, wonder your thoughts on using smartphones for sports videography? I’m new to the world of sport videography and I’m trying to get more experience under my belt. I know everyone will say “smartphones can’t replace a good camera” and I generally agree however the more and more I’m using it to get action shots, or quick videos the more I’m starting to enjoy it. I’ve purchased some aftermarket lenses and ND filters to help make it a bit better, as well as using FilmicPro when shooting has also changed the way I take film. Just curious if you’d make a video comparing regular DSLR camera compared to a high end iPhone or android phone?

I use the rebel t5 & I wanna start getting into video to shoot sports should I get a new camera cause the best lens I have is the canon 50mm f1.8 & it doesn’t zoom in for sports any suggestions?
@SaulLopezVideo
@SaulLopezVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah a zoom lens is definitely important for shooting sports. If you have more money to spend I recommend the 70-200f2.8 or 100-400f4. But the 18-135mm is also a budget friendlier lens that can help you get started.

Would the Sony A7 Mark iii be ideal for recording football games ? 1-2 hour games ? Could it handle That work load without getting overheated ?
@SaulLopezVideo
@SaulLopezVideo 2 жыл бұрын
A7iii works great. I believe it stops recording video every 30 minutes so you have to be sure to be by the camera to hit record again. As far as overheating I think it's fine but also depends on the climate/environment you'll be shooting in.

Would you recommend a glidecam for filming football instead of a gimbal? I'm using a panasonic hc-x1500.

Both serve the same functionality IMO. Whatever you’re most comfortable with. I could never get the hang of glide arms but gimbals have worked great for me
